I bought the double pack of these retractable badge holders around 4 years ago. I had gone through 5 or 6 fairly expensive ones from Walmart before deciding to buy these. I am still on #1 of 2! The 2nd one will be great when/if I ever need it. The plastic is worn a little bit on the sides of the actual piece that holds your badge, but the material is reinforced with some kind of (fabric?) material, so it's barely notable. The metal button that you fasten can get loose with time (as in, years). If that happens, just grab a pair of needle nose pliers and pinch the metal prongs tight again, the part that clasps the button. The metal body has held up well, the cable is a champ, and reinforced with plastic housing. I use this thing probably 50 times in a day, every day, for 40 hours a week. Absolutely no complaints - it's rare that I can tip my hat to a solid product anymore.

At first it was great, badge holder, a couple of keys. Worked perfectly for about a month, month two, started sticking on retracting (It was often extended nearly full length). Today I threw it away (6/11) Not what I expected from something so highly rated. Update 6/22 after my review being disappointed with the item, the seller contacted me and offered a refund. I asked if it would be possible to get a replacement which was as VERY quickly sent. I am now using the new one and will update this again in a week or two. My original review was 1 star and the prompt satisfaction has raised that to 3 star. Update 7/17 -- extremely happy with the product now. The first one must have been a fluke because after it was replaced I have been using the replacement daily and "hard" and it has fully lived up to my expectations. Vendor was extremely responsive and helpful.

I loved this initially and recommended it to co-workers. I loved how heavy duty and sturdy it seemed. Over time, however, on 2 different ones, I've had the same issue. The little metal clip puts pressure on the plastic. This looks to be some feature to where you can remove it from the clip, but because it's 2 different pieces, eventually the pressure causes the plastic to wear way. After a while you end up with a retractable badge that you can't clip to anything anymore. Also, the strong tension on the cable makes it perfect for holding a lot of heavy things, but it also makes it so that if you're not careful, pulling your badge out to gain access to something, the clip can come off of you and send it slamming together. Really, I think the clip part of this is the weakest part. Eventually it will release from the plastic to where you can't keep it reattached, and it's slick enough to slide off of your pocket. I'll be trying the model with the carabiner as that will likely fit my functionality better.
