  • Poor construction on handle
Size: 55 lb. Thrust Style: 36 in Shaft
After assembling the handle which you have to do because it comes in two pieces, I realized that the motor would not change speed and was stuck at one speed only. Instructions say once you insert the handle you can’t get the handle back out. Since I actually needed to use the motor while on the camping trip, I went ahead and disassembled it to see if I could fix it. Apparently the handle did not engage the pot that controls the speed of the motor properly that could’ve been because I didn’t line it up properly. However, once I got inside of it, I realized the internal components are very much plastic and I don’t think they’re up to the task that they’re supposed to do. As long as you follow the directions carefully, you probably won’t have this problem, but I’m writing it low because I don’t think it should be that delicate. ... show more

  • Water in lower unit two motors.
Size: 55 lb. Thrust Style: 36 in Shaft
In the 15 months I've had this motor it's been to the service tech 4 times and been replaced once and now needs to go again. Water in the lower unit is a real problem with this motor. Both motors vibrate like it has a bent prop. I can't go fishing without worrying about motor problems. I don't even want it anymore. I waited this long to review to see if it would work out. A lot of money for a lot of problems. Waiting to see how minn Kota handles this. ... show more

  • Excellent and very efficient trolling motor. Battery lasts a long time due to the PWM controller.
Size: 55 lb. Thrust Style: 36 in Shaft
Excellent trolling motor. I've had mine for 8 years. The battery life is fantastic due to the PWM controller that makes extremely efficient use of power at all speeds. I have gone 16-20 hours off a single 105 amp hour battery and still had charge left. The only trouble I have had with it is someone must have hit the prop on something or dropped it (others have used it) and last year i went to use it and it would not work at all. it turned out the shaft was bent and had a runout of 8 thousandths of an inch, which caused the seals to leak. The armature, bearings, and brushes in the lower unit sat soaking for a year like this. The water damage then caused the PWM controller to short out. I ended up replacing all the internal parts of the lower unit and the PWM controller (not cheap). For the cost of the repairs, which I did myself, I could have spent $100 more and bought a whole new unit. This wasn't the best option though as the housing is in fantastic shape even after all these years. The unit runs like a champ again. i recommend you check the runout of your shaft fairly often on any trolling motor. If you find it is bent then you may also have a leak. I also plan on changing the seals every few years as normal maintenance. It's easy to do and they are very inexpensive. This is a very well built motor. ... show more
