  • Great motor for our inflatable boat
Pattern Name: Transom Mount
We are using this motor on an Intex Excursion 5 inflatable boat. Not sure if it's sized properly, please check before deciding on this motor. Our configuration today was two adults (totaling about 320 lbs), and 2 kids (totaling about 80 lbs), this motor (about 50 lbs), large tackle box (maybe 20 lbs), battery in battery box (maybe 25 lbs), and a bag of other misc stuff (food, water, etc, maybe 10 lbs). So somewhere around 500lbs of stuff. Cruising at 30% forward on the motor handle yielded 1.5 mph. Cruising at full 100% forward yielded 3.5 mph. I measured using a map/navigation app on my cell phone. We cruised around the lake for about 2 hours, mostly at 30% with maybe 10 minutes total of random bursts to 100% for fun. Batteries were still showing full charge on the Minn Kota battery box as well as on the motor's battery gauge. I am impressed--faster then I thought it would be and way less energy use then I expected. (although this is my first trolling motor so I don't have anything to compare to) My battery configuration is kinda odd.... I have qty 4 6V 12Ah batteries in a parallel/series configuration. So It gives be 12v output and I believe it would give 24Ah capacity (not totally sure on this one). I had these lying around from a UPS battery replacement project that never happened. I was planning to get a 100Ah battery but I may keep this rig for a while as it's working better then I expected. The motor and mount is very easy to adjust after it is mounted on the stern. Moving it up and down, tilting it, etc, is super easy. Also tightening/loosening the wingnut that holds the motor position when you have to take your hand off the handle is easy to get at and operate. Reading the manual is good, but it's pretty intuitive how the motor is designed. Also, there's a $25 rebate on until July 1 2016 from Minn Kota.....can't beat that! • You can't go wrong!! Lots of power...
Pattern Name: Transom Mount
My boat is a Sea Eagle 124SMB. With two people and some extra stuff on board, trying to go upstream on the Deschutes River in Oregon takes some power. In spring and early summer, the current is pretty strong...my "guesstimate" is around 5-6 knots. The original motor I had, a Minn Kota Endura 40, would power the boat "OK" most of the time, but would run both of my batteries down in less than two hours. At some points on the river, it would barely make any progress at all. The Endura Max 55 has all the power I need! And, the electronics it carries make the batteries last more than twice as long, even when running between 75 and 100%. This motor gets the boat really going and has plenty of power. My two batteries are not the same size, and starting with the larger one, I can run well over 1 1/2 hours with almost no voltage drop. It's amazing what they have accomplished with this motor, and it''s WELL WORTH the extra money over the E-40. The Sea Eagle 124SMB is a flat bottomed boat and has lots of drag in the water. It also is highly effected by strong winds. The Endura MAX 55 is great for moving this boat through the water and instantly correcting for wind movement. It's a factor of my boat, but be prepared to be "at the helm" continuously with this motor, because it will easily power the boat against the current (current against the boat plus the motor at 75% moving the boat at about 5 knots, means the motor is actually moving the boat at about 10-12 knots!) and can get going in the wrong direction quickly. Running the motor at around 50% downstream makes it easy to control without using the paddles at all, and can get you home in short order. This is a great product and I would highly recommend it if you're thinking about an electric trolling motor for any application. It runs on 12 volts instead of 24, and yet has plenty of power and makes the battery last longer. Who could ask for more?? ... show more

  • Minn Kota Endura Max 55 - less than 3 minuites use until it died
Pattern Name: Transom Mount
Purchased the Endura Max 55 along with a Minn Kota battery box and Minn Kota 10 amp charger. Motor was received Fri. (8/23) with the other items arriving Sat. (8/24). Motor was to be used on a Sea Eagle 9 with motor mount package. Charged up a new group 29 battery over the weekend and took the motor for it's maiden voyage today (8/26). Was only able to go a total of approximately 1000 feet forward and 20 feet back when the motor simply died. Battery indicator on the motor showed 3 bars after backing up from the shore (first 10 feet) although the battery box indicated a full charge. Battery indicator on motor still indicated 3 bars after it died, battery box still indicated full charge. I did note the top cover (controller) got very hot but this may have been due to the Sun. Testing the battery at the box's terminals with a meter indicated 12.8 volts. So far I'm extremely disappointed in receiving a motor that worked less than 3 minutes. Needless to say, having to row back across the lake against the wind caused me to utter more than a few unkind words towards Minn Kota. There is a sticker on the motor indicating it should be returned to Minn Kota for repairs but I will seek a replacement/refund from Amazon rather than inconvenience myself with the expense and hassle of shipping this to a Minn Kota repair center. This review will be revisited upon resolution of the problem. ... show more
