  • Wonderful (and amazingly fast) little computer
Style: R9 8945HS(64+1T)
This is a really wonderful little computer. It is incredibly fast. I had a little trouble out of the box because, while I wanted to use only the HDMI video out, it seemed to want to use either of the other ports. I did buy a couple of inexpensive adapters so I could use the other two ports, but after I downloaded and installed some new AMD drivers and fussed around a bit, I was able to get the HDMI port itself to work as desired. The machine has been working flawlessly ever since (over 4 months). I use it mostly to run VMWare virtual machines of both Windows and Linux, and have no issues. I virtualized a couple of older Windows 10 machines, applied newly purchased product keys, upgraded them to Windows 11, and they run faster than the old boxes from which the systems came. I realize some folks have apparently had some significant problems and complaints, but my experience has been almost (only because of the original small video problems) trouble-free so far. ... show more

  • A workhorse
Style: R9 8945HS(64+1T)
The occulink port allowing me to plug in my massive GPU is a huge plus. An extreme amount of storage allows me to process my photos easily. It's a very fast unit that also works well for programming. The fan is near silent. Way better than a laptop for heat management too.

  • Outstanding performance for its size.
Style: R9 8945HS(0+0)
Considering that this is a mini PC, I am more than pleasantly surprised by its performance. Most games run smoothly at medium resolution, which I would not have expected. It also has plenty of power for everyday tasks. Highly recommended.

  • OCULINK Requires NVME/m.2 Slot
Style: R9 8945HS(32+1T)
I know it says it in the description but it bears repeating... I didn't realize how much I would miss not having that 2nd m.2 slot if I wanted to use Oculink. I spent a lot of time looking at this and the similary speced one from GMKtec. There was only a $1 difference between the two at the time of purchasing but I opted for the Minisforum simply because the Oculink port was on the back and the GMKtec was on the front. In the end, aesthetics won out... had GMKtec put the Oculink on the back and didn't use the bright green button, I would have went that route... when I added the GMKtec oculink AD-GP1 to this, I had to give up my m.2 slot. Luckily I had a SSK nvme enclosure handy so I put my 2nd drive in it. Not a big fan of having all of these cables on my desk but it works. Performance wise, this thing is a champ for its size. It easily handles everything I do in Photoshop and Lightroom. We have used Premiere on lower end mini PCs but I haven't tried to do any video editing on this yet but if it works on a 5700u, I'm sure the 8945hs will be even better.... and with the AD-GP1, rendering should be faster than relying on the 780m. Honestly, it is amazing how much performance we can get now out of such a small form factor. The first thing I did was open it up which I must mention how AWESOME Minisfourm made this... the top snaps on magnetically so no need to try and remove the rubber feet... you just pop the top off and you are in. You need to remove the fan cable to get easier access and I wish they made that cable a bit longer because it is a bit more challenging reconnecting the cable than removing the cable. I ordered 2tb WD Black SN850 to replace the cheap looking one that came with it and I had an old 970 Evo that I had in the 2nd slot until I got the Oculink card. But seriously, being able to pop the magnetic top off to access the 4 phillips screws was a nice touch. There are 2 sticks of Crucial ram in it but I don't recall the speed. I will probably upgrade that two 64gb later. I wish the bios/uefi had an option for XMP... if it does, I didn't see it so I am hoping it is using the full speed of the ram, especially when I upgrade it later. I replaced my old desktop which was an AMD 3800X with a Radeon 5700XT and this thing out performs it at a fraction of the cost. I am pretty sure I paid more for the chip/motherboard than I did for this mini PC and it is easily 10 times smaller. Had Minisforum opted to have the Oculink separate from the secondary m.2 and a tad longer fan cable, this would be 5 stars... losing the m.2 slot was kinda painful and trying to reattach the fan cable is a tad frustrating given how short it is. Other than that, the price is hard to beat and the performance is phenominal for its miniscule size. ... show more

  • Absolute useless potato.
Style: R9 8945HS(64+1T)
I bought this as an upgrade to my gaming laptop, intending to use it for FFXIV. Even after installing a RAM upgrade to 96GB, this thing is an absolute useless potato for gaming. It runs everything else just fine, but I didn't want it for a high-powered word processor. The graphics card benchmarks at 80% higher than the one in my laptop, it has more than twice as much RAM, a better CPU...and yet I can't get above 18fps on the lowest graphics settings. There's also something wrong with the network card. We just got upgraded to fiber internet; sitting side by side, same distance from the router, my laptop gets 159mbps down on wifi while this little potato cube gets...2mbps. You're reading that correctly. Two. Tee-dubya-oh two. I plugged in a USB network card and managed to get it up to 40mbps, but it still drops connectivity constantly using either the internal or external network card. Don't believe all the glowing reviews saying it's a dream for gaming. It's fine for regular work use if you're doing documents or whatever, but if that's all you want save yourself some money and get a cheap $200 laptop. ... show more

  • An impressive little box! Update - unit has failed.
Style: R9 8945HS(64+1T)
I recently purchased a 14" HP Spectra x360 (32 Gb memory), which I love for travel, but found that it's performance was getting bogged down due to overheating when running multiple screens with half a dozen workspaces active and 50-60 open tabs. Based on a number of reviews, decided to try this Minisforum as my main computer when not travelling. Out of the box, the machine ran the usual updates, then synched my microsoft settings and workspaces. It has, since, been running the multiple workspaces and tabs - some of which are running mapping applications - with nary a whimper. Barely warm, completely silent and noticeably faster under heavy workload than my beloved Spectra, this is an impressive little machine. Time will tell how it will age, but for the moment, I am impressed. Loved this little computer until the moment it failed. Just died - no warning. Review of several sources suggests the power supply may have failed. Returned unit. ... show more
