  • Good performance, small footprint.
So my HX99G arrived one day early, was happy about that. The listing showed a Radeon 6600m gpu, my unit came with a Radeon 6650m gpu which is a slightly newer and upgraded graphics chip(even better). I am using this to replace my existing PC so I already have a monitor, mouse, keyboard and controller. Setup was a breeze and only took about 30 minutes to get into Windows 11. I signed into my Microsoft, Xbox, Steam, EA and Google accounts and started to re-download my games. A few hours after setting up, I was ready to play some games. I’m actually pretty impressed with the performance from this little unit, it runs most of my games at high or ultra settings in 1080p to 1440p at 60fps no problems. It’s a fast little computer that can actually play games very well provided you don’t try to go for 4k resolution. I’m happy with my purchase and waiting to see how this Mini PC does for the long term. ... show more

  • Took me awhile, but I am there
Size: UM890 Pro-64/1TB
Note in the picture that the Minisforum UM890 Pro is less than half the size of my Unifi USW Enterprise 8 PoE switch. The UM890 Pro is REALLY quiet. Under normal conditions you never hear the fan. I ended up putting a Samsung 890 Pro 4TB NVMe in mine to replace the provided 1TB NVMe. I run Ubuntu 24.04 on mine and it runs perfectly from the start. I have mentioned this little marvel on my @ScottiBYTE YouTube channel multiple times. I bought the UM890 to replace my Dell XPS 8930 which had developed problems. I configured the two 2.5Gbps NICs as an 802.3ad aggregated connection to my aforementioned switch and it is great to have a 5Gbps connection that hums along flawlessly. My only complaint has been the design of the BIOS. This BIOS lacks support for legacy boot. So, you will be booting EFI only. I suppose the fact that Microsoft has dispensed with MBR booting has influenced PC makers. The BIOS also lacks granular control over PXE booting features and for that matter I have not managed to get PXE booting to work at all. I have both Netboot.XYZ and a iVentoy PXE servers and my other systems boot from them fine. The UM890 takes the NBP download from the server but hangs on initializing iPXE. I use PXE booting for my backups and I am presently using a USB Bootable thumb drive as an alternative since PXE doesn't work. I emailed Minisforum three times and their support apparently had no idea what PXE was and told me they only support Windows thinking PXE was an OS. The last BIOS issue I found was there appears to be absolutely no provision for a BIOS upgrade to this machine ever. After 40 years of building and configuring PCs that is a first. In fact the BIOs is what I would call the "PlaySckool" BIOS. However, past the BIOS this system is completely and totally FAST and AWESOME and I could not have hoped for better. By the way, pro tip... F7 is the key to bring up the alternate device boot menu. ... show more

  • It stopped powering on after 4 days of use
Size: UM890 Pro-64/1TB
5 days in and it stopped powering on. Didn't even get to test how it handled games. For four days it ran beautifully. Then it just refused to power on. No signs of damage, it was plugged in directly to the wall and had plenty of room and ventilation. It ran quietly and set up was a breeze. Never got to test how it held up with gaming but what little I ran it never did heat up. It ran fast but the price point coupled with now the headache of returning the product, not that great. ... show more

  • Quiet, Compact, and Powerful — Handles 4 Monitors with Ease
Size: UM890 Pro-Barebone
This barebones mini-PC delivered exactly what I needed for a quiet, compact, high-performance build. I added DDR5 memory and two NVMe drives (1TB + 4TB), and the dual internal M.2 slots made setup clean and easy. I'm currently running 4 monitors (via HDMI, USB-C, and DisplayPort), and everything works flawlessly. The two USB4 ports are especially handy — one for display output and the other connected to an external SSD. Speeds are excellent, and all USB ports support high-speed transfers. Fan noise is impressively low — much quieter than my old tower PC — and system responsiveness is snappy even under load. Setup tip: After Windows install, be sure to update all drivers using the manufacturer’s support page and AMD's driver tools. This ensures proper GPU, USB, and SSD performance. Very happy with this system — small footprint, big performance, great flexibility. ... show more

  • Nice little powerhouse for the kids
Bought this to replace a 5 year old mini PC that the kids had been using. They mainly use it for remote learning, web browsing, and some online gaming (Fortnite). Although it couldn't handle the resolution turned all the way up for Fortnite - and we did use the autosense tuning for the game - after a few tweaks to the video settings, it works really well for them. One of them has barely walked away from it. I did some quick browsing to set up Microsoft Family on it to manage the kids time online and it was very fast and responsive. And so QUIET! I didn't realize it was there a few times. The old one sounded like heavy duty fan was sitting in the corner. Nothing from this one. I did add another NVME 2 TB SSD to it just to put kids games on so that they didn't run out of space competing with Windows updates, but that is it. Sadly, this little unit has better components in it than my personal PC, so now I'm a bit jealous. May have to look into updating mine in the future now. But I couldn't have built one to these specs easily for the price, so I'm very happy with the purchase. ... show more

  • How can I not be impressed
Size: UM680 Slim-16/1TB
Upgraded from a 1st gen i5 desktop to this. Of course I'm impressed. What's good: small size, low power, Runs Linux. Great value. Cons: Could use a few more USB ports. Windows Ugg! Tip: [DEL] gets you into the BIOS to rearrange the boot order. If you are going to run Linux, run Gparted first and nuke Bitlocker and all Windows partitions from space! ... show more
