    • Like a real contractors' saw, but smaller!
Cutting small trim pieces, circuit boards, and metal assembly parts are things I have to do routinely, and doing it on a full size saw is scary. A metal shear would be great, but I don't have one. This saw is perfect for these applications. It needs minor assembly out of the box, but it will give you the opportunity to see how well its made. The materials are solid - almost the entire thing is metal - and it has all the features of a full size contractors saw, including a solid fence, and miter attachment. The blade can be retracted to below the table, or raised about 3/4" above. There is a blade guard for eye protection. There are 5 speed settings, changed by a slide switch on the power adapter. The saw itself has a simple on/off switch. All necessary parts are included, along with two allen wrenches needed for assembly and adjustment. The blade is raised and lowered by turning a hex screw with the wrench through a hole in the table. That's the only adjustment, as it can't be tilted. Other than that it's like a normal saw, but smaller. Although there's no way to tighten the lift mechanism, it locks pretty well wherever you set it. The saw is basically all metal construction, including the fence and miter fence. The fence rides in wide tracks, so there's some movement possible, but you can align it with the two sets of ruler marks on the table to make sure it's perfectly straight, It locks on both ends, unlike my big table saw! The miter fence slides in a T track, but the rail is a bit small so there's some play. Again, the miter fence is all metal and can be set accurately, though you may need to hold it to one side of the rail while you're pushing it. A power takeoff on the slide lets you put on a chuck or flex cable, so you can use sanding disks or other accessories, which are not included. The packing includes 4 different kinds of blades for a variety of cutting needs. I was able to do a clean job on copper-clad glass epoxy, and small aluminum channel, in addition to wood. I hope it works as well with acrylic. The ruler markings on the table are painted, not etched, and are already showing wear. The miter fence T rail doesn't fit the slot tightly. And that's all that's wrong with this saw. They really included all the features that make a table saw useful. Your fingers can get close to the blade, but since everything is small you can watch closely and use it safely. ... show more
