  • Powerful & Quiet. Excellent customer service
Size: R9 7940HS 32G/1TB
Using this Alloy 9 for mini-home server, photo/video editing and light gaming with an Ububtu duel boot Pros: -Build quality is very nice, the device has a nice weight to it and feels very premium. -Under load, the machine temps have not spiked to anywhere near worrisome, have yet to experience any throttling. -Windows install was painless, allowing my to setup offline without requiring a login to MS account. -Wifi & Etherneet speeds are great -Handles itself very well for light gaming, Rocket Leage at medium settings ran at 100-120fps. This is not the primary purpose for this machine but it's good to have the option for some older games to run at high frames with High settings. Have also test some emulation which also works very well. -Once all the appropriate AMD drivers are installed, this runs Ubuntu flawlessly. Awesome duel boot machine. -Customer support team was incredibly kind and responsive when I submitted an inquiry. I in fact made a mistake in my original question that they pointed out and Reatan proceeded to assist me regardless. I honestly think they care about their users/customers. Cons/Suggestions: -USB-C Ports really are only on the front, would have like one on the back for desk cleanliness. Really is not a dealbreaker as it still manages to get 4 USB-A ports in the back with 2 HDMI ports. -A card reader would be nice on this device, portability of a machine like this would couple nicely with photo/video editing Overall this was my first Mini-PC purchase and I am very pleased with both the Alloy 9 and Reatan themselves. There are plenty of new names in the market selling Mini-PC's and I am glad that A. This device is not a piece of junk and is actually a high performing machine and B. Knowing there are real people at Reatan who are willing to work with their customers. very much looking forward to seeing what Reatan has in store for the future! ... show more

  • Excellent machine for Office Productivity and Linux Gaming
Size: R9 7940HS 32G/1TB
Purchased in April 2024. Dual booting Windows 11 for work and Bazzite Linux for personal usage and gaming. Powers dual monitors easily. Windows 11 runs very well with MS Office 365 Desktop (Outlook, Word, Teams, and Excel) all running at the same time, and Zoom Meetings, SumatraPDF viewer with 7-10 PDFs open, and multiple Edge windows with 20-30 tabs. Let me tell you this computer is fast, and handles everything I just mentioned with ease and all of my applications are snappy. Also dual booting Bazzite Linux, and have tested Ghost of Tsushima, Cyberpunk, Still Wakes the Deep, Trepang 2 and a few others, all which run very well ~40-60fps at 1080p. While it is not a $2000 gaming machine and I wouldn't expect it to be, it is a nifty little box that games surprisingly well. I guestimate it would get several hundred fps in games like CS, LoL, Apex, OW. Observations: Build quality is excellent. 10/10 Wi-Fi connectivity was not great, but there are also two concrete walls between the MiniPC and the router. Probably not the fault of the actual module, and ended up running a Cat6. I re-installed Windows from day one (after copying the Windows key) and did not run an anti-virus scan on the default install. IMHO, you should not trust any OEM manufacture's default Windows installation... not HP, Dell, Toshiba, Asus, nor any Chinese brand. Drivers were available from the Reatan website. My Alloy 9 is whisper quiet on the default power mode. The chassis does get hot to the touch, but has not noticeably thermal throttled even during summer months with 90F ambient temp. The UEFI GUI is difficult to navigate and find settings. I would much prefer an ugly ol' traditional BIOS menu. ... show more

  • Zippy little buddy...almost.
I would like to start out with this review by saying if you hope you getting a $2k+ gaming computer by spending this price, I'm going to stop you there and tell you save your money. Overall, for a desktop PC for work and what not, this isn't a bad buy. The CPU is a great one. I got the Ryzen 7 5800U and was able to boost it to 4.4 GHz. This made is great and zippy for handling day to day things and it even slightly outperformed my ryzen 5 5600X on my big desktop. Alas, the problem occurred when I attempted to play the lowest graphically intense game I had: Risk of Rain 2. It was atrocious just loading the intro and the main menu. I had to turn it down to 720P and it looked disgusting. After removing Windows 11 Pro and installing Garuda Linux Dr460nized Gaming Edition, I noticed Risk of Rain 2 ran much better, Rocket League didn't need any changes to play well, and most of everything looked good and ran well. Problem came up when I switched from a small 19" Utility Monitor 60Hz refresh rate to my 28" 250Hz. Again, it looked disgusting and made the game unplayable. I tried other games like Borderlands 3. Again, unplayable. Disgusting graphics. There is just something not quite right with the VEGA graphics or the way the Radeon graphics chip works in these mini PCs. This wouldn't be the first hearing about problems in the VEGA graphics. Before receiving this product, I helped a friend by dropping a package off at UPS and it was a Mini PC (AceMagician something). He said the VEGA graphics were the problem. Honestly, MiniPCs are becoming popular we're still a long way from a computer without needing a discrete graphics card. Other than that, when I went to plug an AUX into the front of the mini PC, I was having trouble as it appeared that the port was off from the hole, a slightly poor craftmanship problem, not a huge deal. I ended up getting it in. Bottomline: if you want a PC for office use, this is right for anyone. For gaming, save your money for a real PC. ... show more

  • Small computer, huge performance
Size: R9 7940HS 32G/1TB
I use this mini PC for both gaming and schoolwork. In comparison to my own build, this little thing packs a punch. I play some very visually demanding games, GPU runs most games at 120fps comfortably. It sets up nice and it's very quiet! Save space in comparison to my own build. my only complaint is the storage size, but I have an external SSD to make up for that. Totally worth the buy. ... show more
