I've never been an electric winch guy on off-road vehicles. Call me old-fashioned, but I've always gotten by with the old come-along, which these hoists are known as. Well, my dad borrowed my old one, and now it is gone. So, I needed a replacement. I thought to check Amazon to see what they had. I came across this product for a reasonable fee, and it seemed good so I ordered it. When I unboxed it, I was deeply impressed. It is very heavy duty, and well-built. Pretty amazing. But did it work? I put it to the test. Well, it pulled a deeply buried old 5ft steel scraper blade from a dark corner of my barn with very little effort. Yeah, it took a while. But it made a lousy job possible, and now it lives perched on my off-road vehicle. I do not doubt it will pull the vehicle from a muddy hole. Small ratcheting lifting chain block with steel safety hook and metal ratchet. The end of the chain has a decent hook on it with a snap shut lock, the other end of the chain has a plastic loop to pull through fast. I'm not sure I'd trust this device with 500lbs of equipment but for small lifting jobs it will certainly take the weight off your back. ... show more

This is a small hoist, short handle, small gauge chain. I just so happen to have an engine sitting under my large hoist at the moment so I chained this up. I don't doubt that it will hold 500#, but I do have my doubts that I would be willing to crank on the lever hard enough to actually develop 500# of force. The crank handle is just really short. I see this as an excellent tool for leveling up engine/transmission assemblies when reinstalling back into my projects, as well as any other need to gently reposition things. ... show more
