I mean, they’re lights. And other reviews have said it pretty well - the instructions are pretty bad, but if you’re persistent enough, you’ll eventually figure it out. The easiest thing in the world is just to turn it on and let it do its thing. I just set the time and told it to go to it. It thinks it’s winter - it’s turning the night lights on at about 4 in the evening, but I don’t think my fish care very much. And my plants certainly don’t care, as long as they’re getting several hours of daylight and all the fertilizer they can use, they’re happy! As for water resistance … I can’t speak to that with much confidence, but I splashed it while cleaning the tank this afternoon and the lights didn’t seem to care, so there’s that. The only CON I can come up with is that they seem to put out quite a bit of heat. They’ve warmed my 20 gal tank up 3-4 degrees and I’ve had to start propping the lid open to try to cool it off. That’s just something to be aware of. SO, overall, I think I can recommend these lights. My fish and plants seem to be pretty happy. :) ... show more

This light is super bright. I haven't had it long enough to rate it's impact on my plants, but have no reason to think it won't work. The various modes are really cool and I love the 24 hour mode that cycles through morning, full spectrum, evening and moonlight modes. Downsides are that if the light loses power you'll have to program it all over again. This is definitely an inconvenience. It also gets a bit warm and will raise the temperature of a small tank. I had to place it on risers as it was heating up my 10 gallon tank to 82 degrees. The temp of the light at full power gets to over 90 degrees which will over heat your tank if you have a lid and the light is too close. ... show more

This is a great light for the money. The color options are fun. Haven't messed with the timer yet.. Read that it can be a challenge, but oh well. My only problem with this light is that the display light is too bright. When the light is off, the display shows "OFF" in a very bright blue light. The tank it's on is in my teen daughters bedroom and she has to put things over it so that she can sleep at night. I'm thinking once we get it programmed, I may just put electrical tape or something over it. ... show more

As always my order came 1 day earlier, thanks to amazon's extremely efficient delivery service. Ok, so speaking of the packaging, it was pretty well protected by a tight box inside a much larger box filled with protective paper. I was afraid that the light would come up broken as one reviewer said that his came up that way but no, the package was in absolute perfect condition so were the insides of the package which would be the light and the power cord. So now, for the light itself, at first I thought it was broken (circuitry speaking) as I mounted the lamp on my tank (which sits perfectly in the border, more on that later), plug it in and nothing, no white light, no blue light. I proceeded then to adjust the power cord making sure that both sides were absolutely well plugged and, it turned on perfectly! be careful with that power cord as it seems that the light end its a little bit loose. Now speaking of the light, IT IS BRIGHT, I mean really bright. the white configuration makes for an incredible daylight view of my tank and lets me see the quality of the water in ways I was previously unable to. the blue configuration its like a totally different game. it makes the fluorescent rocks of my tank bright in a gorgeous pink and also makes for a beautiful moonlight view for may tank. Now to the size, it sits perfectly on top of my 25Gal aquarium, although I noticed that if you get the whole extension of the "hands" of the light they come out all the way, so make sure you are not using them to their limit as they can detach and fall into the aquarium with sad results. It would have been a 5 stars rate easily if it wasn't for the plug and the extension issues but with all that im absolutely happy with my purchase and I definitely recomend this product for any one that needs a powerful, yet affordable tank light. ... show more
