  • Good little book
Quick read and the libraries here are currently closed. I'm happy that I bought it (though I like to rent from the library before I purchase books). This is a quick and easy read and will help me to pass a little time while we are at home. Good tips and will be a great addition on my bookshelf to come back to if I need. ... show more

  • Such a practical handbook!
This is such a practical handbook for parents wanting to up their mindful parenting game. It speaks to long-time practitioners and beginners. Nicole is authentic and I found her personal parenting challenges that she shared to be very relatable. • A great buy for parents!
This small little book can easily be fit in a pocket, diaper bag, or purse and is great for parents wanting to inject more mindfulness in their family's lives. This little guide is broken into three parts: where mindfulness and parenting meet, becoming emotionally mindful, and becoming a mindful citizen. There are lots of techniques, tips, and resources, that parents can introduce in small bits to help influence their kids behavior for the better and will cause ripple effects that will help them in the future. Not just for stay at home parents, this guide has strategies for going out, school, and other scenarios. A few changes with the parents can have a huge impact on how their kids grow up and view the world. A great buy for parents! ... show more

  • I LOVE THIS BOOK!
Pausing and reflecting gives you the opportunity to find a way to offer “thoughtful, measured words” instead of an angry response when something upsetting happens, and that’s what this book is all about. Being mindful means paying attention to what’s happening in your mind and body so you can come from a kinder place than what you are actually feeling at the moment. This practice doesn’t mean the situation will go away (it probably won’t) but it does mean you’ll get through the rough waters in a much less damaging way. In other words, the tools the author offers in this book will help you manage your stress so your stress doesn’t manage you! The difference this practice makes is amazing. I say that because it benefits everyone: a) You set a life-lasting example for your child, b) It brings compassion and acceptance into the picture, both for you and your child, and c) It gives you a way to nurture yourself in the midst of the chaos by reducing the stress factor and bringing greater clarity to the situation. And of course the best part is that once you have learned how to do this at home - what a great practice field the home is! – you can do it anywhere. So this practice is more about being than doing – about being authentic, about tapping into that deep well of wisdom we all have if we can just tune into it. It’s about being what you already are with “patience, kindness and focus.” So what is mindfulness and how does it work? To begin with, it helps you be present to every moment – the good ones, and the difficult ones, too. Then you can choose what you want to have happen in your mind and body instead of automatically and habitually responding in a negative way to potentially upsetting events. Toward this end the author skillfully guides the reader through how to make this practice work for you specifically. This includes managing anger and stress, becoming aware of habitual responses you’d like to change, and how to change them. She introduces basic skills and addresses common challenges or triggers we all have as we move through our days – things like distractions, anxiety and stress, anger and difficult emotions. We’re talking about choosing a healthy and supportive way of being, so of course that means bringing moments of joy and gratitude into your days, too. You’ll learn to recognize when thinking is helpful and when the mind is just spinning. As a result, you’ll begin using the power of your mind to create the reality you want. At the same time, the author encourages us to enjoy the moments we can, and be gentle with ourselves when life gets hard. Various way to practice this skill in all sorts of situations abound throughout the book. This truly is a book anyone can benefit from. Beautifully written, with humor and compassion, here are answers you may have been seeking but just didn’t know how to find. Highly recommended!!! (The publisher sent me this book with a request for an honest review.) ... show more

  • A must-read for parents!
Parenting is tough, no question there. And no matter how hard you work at it, you won't be mindful every minute. You won't feel grateful everyday. Nicole Libin, author of Mindful Parenting in a Chaotic World, understands, and reminds us that that's totally okay. I think each new parent should get a handful of books to help me - owner's manuals, if you will. This book would be on my suggested reading list. This is a short book - 100 pages - that even the busiest parent can manage to squeeze in. The practice ideas are easy to fit into everyday life. Libin also offers suggestions of when to use each one. I also love that each practice includes tips for sharing it with the children in your life. She is excellent at bringing the exercise to a child's level - whether a preschooler or teen or somewhere in between. ... show more
