  • So much more useful than I imagined it would be! SO GLAD I purchased this book!!!
I was reluctant to purchase this book because I was so set in the month-by-month structure that the prior "What to Expect" books were broken down in, but it's so true that at this point, every baby blossoms differently and goes through things at a different pace. So it is EXTREMELY nice to have everything broken down by topic category instead for super easy reference. I'm not even kidding, I flipped it open to the middle of the book as soon as I got it and BAM! I instantly found an answer to one of the burning questions I've been wondering about. That right there was when I had my epiphany that this book really is exactly what I needed in my life at this point. It's so nice to just flip through and read up on different topics and I still get the same reassurance that I always have gotten out of reading these awesome books. I'm SO GLAD I made the decision to go ahead and buy it!! Even with the internet at our fingertips, there is no comparison to being able to sit down and read through a book full of up to date knowledgeable information, tips and tricks. I kept hearing "Oh you don't need those books" but fortunately I decided to give them a try anyway. I'm so glad I did! They are the best!! ... show more

  • Great info!
Perfect gift for parents of young children! Wealth of information inside, even used by pediatricians as a reference book.

  • Great resource - I refer to it all the time!
I used the book "What to Expect the First Year" and found it very helpful as a first time mom, so I purchased this book for the second year. I love it! My daughter is 19 months old now and I still refer to it all the time - often to re-read something I probably forgot! It does a great job of covering most of the questions you might have and I love the beginning section that lists developmental milestones by month. I noticed one reviewer said they did not like the new format of this book - instead of a different chapter for each month chapters are organized by category (e.g. feeding, sleeping, talking). I like this format much better for the second year for a couple of reasons. 1-Children develop at their own pace and there is a wider range of what is normal as children get older compared to when they are 3 months old. 2-It is much easier to find an answer to a question you have or to just sit down and read about feeding, discipline, whatever interests you at the moment. You might need additional books or resources for more in depth coverage of certain problems if they go above and beyond "typical" toddler issues, but this is a comprehenive book that is sure to cover most of the questions you may have during your child's second year. I would buy a book for the 3rd year if it were available! ... show more

  • Equally helpful and frustrating
I thought this book contained crucial info, references and helpful guidance that I needed to get through my little one’s second year. It gave me a little peace of mind knowing I had it on hand to reference at any moment if I needed to. Unlike the first year, the second year is organized by categories, not by months old. For example: Sleeping / Feeding / Playing Positive: I really loved the month to month style (first year), but with this book it was very convenient finding everything I needed to know on that one topic, all in one place. No searching around for it. Negative: I would read a particular topic, suddenly crucial milestones, behaviors, etc. are mentioned that were critical during a specific age range (that may have already passed) Overall, I didn’t like that this book’s layout is different from the first book but I bought it to have as a trusted guide and tried my best to re read topics often to make sure I wasn’t missing things. ... show more

  • Best book for parents
I raised my own children using this authors book first book on raising your one year old, 35 years ago. Now I have a grandson and I still love her advice. Love that she wrote a book for two year olds too. I’ve seen a bunch of other books for raising baby and this information is just what a new mom needs! Still the best one around in my opinion. Very very helpful, even for a Grammie!! ... show more

  • Very resourceful book
This is a resourceful guide and reassuring book for first time parents or for those parents who are struggling with specific early toddler challenges. My toddlers are going through various struggles at 12 months and I found certain chapters to be helpful right now. I read the chapter on feeding specifically for tips on bottle weaning, cow's milk transition, food serving size suggestions, dealing with picky eaters and food allergy. Additionally, reading about milestones normal/average ranges for height, weight, talking, walking, eating, etc has really put me at ease. For parents like me whose babies are born premature or just not doing what other kids are doing at their age, this book really puts things in perspective. There's also a developmental milestone timeline from 13-24 months to help keep track of your toddler progress. It's by no means a "hard" rule, but it's very useful in gauging where your toddler will be heading. I really like how the chapters are organized into key issues rather than by age . It makes it so much easier to find what you're looking for. Overall, I highly recommend giving this a read. ... show more

  • Very helpful
This book is a very helpful in growth and development of your toddler. It will give you a guide on how they are during their first 2 years. As a first time mom it really teaches me a lot of my son which is now 15 months old.
