  • Easy To Install And Looks Good
Installed this mount on a 2020 explorer hood and it could not have been much easier. I wanted something low profile for a GMRS antenna and chose this along with Midland's Ghost antenna. The combo has worked out great so far. When I don't need the antenna on the vehicle it is so easy to just remove it from this mount and put a weatherproof cap on to protect it. So unnoticeable that I can even forget its there sometimes. Good quality for the price so far as well. Time will tell about longevity but zero issues so far. ... show more

  • Mounted this to my wifes car - it is working great.
I put this on the rear lip of the trunk up against the window. I then put a ghost GRMS antenna on it, and ran it into the car. The removable tip (the PL259) made it much easier to run the cable through the lining of the trunk, to a 5/8" hole I drilled into the trunk/back seat divider, under the rear seat, under the matts and into the front seat. I am getting great reception, and fantastic SWR out of this setup. ... show more

  • Easy to install, with some tweaking
I bought this for my 2022 Ford Bronco. It goes on easy enough, however it does not wrap around all the way. So when you tighten down the screws they are either at an angle or the antenna will not be flush with the hood it floats up a little bit. The fix is easy enough. I took a long screwdriver that would fit into the bracket and used pliers to pinch it around the screw driver so that the bend was more complete and then I was able to mount it so the it was snug and the antenna rested flush on the hood. Have only used it a few times since, but so far so good! It looks way cooler than the supplied magnet antenna that my Midland radio came with, not to mention there is only one place a magnet will stick to the Bronco. ... show more

  • Seems well built, and a nice low profile. Nice long cable for installation options.
I got a GMRS radio as a gift, and I didn't want to use the antenna that came with it - was looking for a more permanent solution. This, plus a +3dB gain stub antenna seemed to be the right solution for my Tacoma. The hood mount part fits well - there is a slight gap towards the middle, but I don't see any vibration. I used a little bit of paint protective film between the mount and my paint to just be extra sure, since I don't plan on taking this thing off any time soon. Running the cable through a vehicle is some work. The reading I did suggested that you not run it through the firewall, because it can interfere with other wiring that is going through there. So, I went under, along the frame, and up through a grommet behind the rear passenger seat, back under the carpet to the dash, through the dash and up to a mount on top of the dash. With all of that, I still had an extra foot or two of cable, so I was fine with the length. I was honestly surprised that I didn't need to extend, given the route I took. If you go that way, make sure to tuck behind heat shielding, because I would expect that this kind of cable would melt. Finally - one thing to note that I didn't figure out until just about the end of my several hours of work: the connector end (coax) actually comes off really easily and goes back on really easily. That makes running cable a LOT easier. I wish I had figured that out *before* running this thing under the carpet and through the dash, but hey, it worked anyway. :-D ... show more

  • Mounts nicely, yes low profile.
Wish it would have a better gap on the bottom to mount. My lip was a little to wide. But its low profile and looks and works great. The gasket lifts a little.

  • Excellent for GMRS Paired With Midland MXTA25 Antenna
Appears to be solidly built, mates flawlessly with the Midland MXTA-25 antenna, and the combination pulls a consistent 1.25 SWR on all GMRS frequencies @ 50 W. Same setup used with VHF/UHF Ham frequencies did not achieve similar results: UHF gave 2.25 to 2.50 SWR consistently and VHF frequencies 4.5 or so. All tests done on a bench, no ground plane. We'll be installing later today, but I'm intrigued by the attachment method which appears to protect the coax better than most other car mounts. The removable coax connector on the radio end of the cable is going to be very useful for feeding cable. ... show more
