Easy to install including the side panels. Used sealing foam to cover the small areas (there are always a few). For us older folks the remote buttons are hard to push in, thus the 3 star for it. It cools our bedroom and the kitchen area. Very strong fan and output is very cold; not as quiet as we hoped, but easy to get to sleep. Dehumidifier is fast and does the job.     • Works very well but is louder than expected.
Installation wasn't too difficult, but it was harder than I had anticipated. It blows very cold air and works well. However, it is very loud, and the settings are a little confusing. My apt built in late 20's (plaster walls/ceiling, no sheet rock, or insulation). I'm upstairs (heat rises) with sun beating down on roof and 2 outer walls). You can imagine how HOT the place gets! This air conditioner is a blessing! My electric bills have been pretty low considering (I have two air conditioners going during hot peak hours). It's also light weight (lighter then others I've installed, and easy installation). Oh! And it doesn't give off that moledy stench that some do after you've had it for a while. The trick is proper square footage as per instruction, and cooling down the room before it gets blistering inside/out. It's not crazy loud, but not quiet either. If you're not sitting right in front of it, it's not bothersome. My room size is 19ft X 17ft I just purchased the Media 6000 btu for my bedroom to replace a different gross model. *Update: Media 6000 btu was easy to install. And working great! The room size I'm using this model is 11ft x 11ft. 6000 btu model is good for smaller rooms. ... show more

Midea is the best. I ordered one for my shed and bought a another one as a backup in 2024 and never needed it. Still in the box but I wouldn't buy any other window unit except Midea. I never had an issue with it and its still doing great three years later.

I bought the 8000 BTU unit based on the reviews that claimed it was a quiet unit. I would like to state that this unit is NOT quiet in the slightest. On the lowest fan setting I can still hear it clearly and I have to raise my voice to be heard over it when talking with someone in the same 215sq.ft. room. Do yourself a favor and run it in eco mode to get a few minutes of quiet in between the half hours of it running loudly. The controller is nice, but without a display or any indicators on it to tell you what the temperature, or what setting it's in, you'll still have to walk back to the unit to see what mode and temperature you're flipping it to. I don't even bother with the controller for this reason. It's not useless, but close to it. Eco mode is the only saving grace here. It allows the unit to power off the compressor and fans once the set temperature is reached and as long as you have all of the doors shut and there isn't a source of heat in the room, it will stay off for quite a while. Unfortunately in my case, the unit is in a room with 12 reptiles that all have their own separate heat source, so it only stays off for about 10 minutes at a time before becoming loud again. This thing can get very cold. It does its job well and that is really all that I ask, but at $300, after waiting over a week for shipping, and then finding out it is just as loud as a unit that I could have bought at my local store for the same price, is that really worth it? Next time I'll just buy local, I can at least return it if the unit doesn't work. ... show more

    • overall horrible, avoid this brand
this unit is loud and the display is for Sh** with little TINY symbols that I have to look in the manual to decipher and need to have A/?C face at the tip of my nose to see and read with LITTLE TINY light dots for so-called LED "display" not only that, but after installation there are air cracks ALL THE WAY AROUND the expandable side curtains that need taped. I recommend Amana WAY above this brand. There was only one small crack under the Amana unit at the window sill to close off, which is the same with all the units. and the amana remote is MUCH MORE robust than this one or the other brand I have, Toshiba, which is also loud. The Amana is VERY quiet. Even looking in the manual for this madea at what the symbols mean, they STILL MAKE NO SENSE! To set the controls, I had to rely on the verbal English description of the order of the settings and watch the tiny green light move to the one I wanted. But the symbols on the display ARE STILL MEANINGLESS GIBBERISH. For example, the fan goes from the top to low med and then high, but THEY BIGGEST SYMBOL BY FAR (still tiny) is,which I guess a 4 -bladed fan, indicates the LOW FAN SETTING! WTF? essentially, in order to be able to intelligently select another setting, I will need to consult the manual every time or find a place to write the settings on the unit in a language other than symbol Gibberish large enough to see from further than 6 inches away! Maybe a huge sign taped to the wall? IDK. I do know that Amana is the only brand I will buy in the future. ... show more

    • I'm a fan of the Midea brand, even if I don't know how to pronounce it.
I'm impressed with this little thing. I have it cooling a room well over its recommended size and it does it well. The eco mode does a great job of minimizing power use and actually keeping the room cool. The fan is noticeable on high when it first comes on but blends into the background well enough. I installed it by myself, wouldn't recommend doing it solo, but hot weather drives determination. It's been nearly 4 years since I purchased it. I figure if I jinx it now by leaving a good review and it croaks tomorrow, I'll buy another one just like it and not feel too bad about it. I leave it in the window all year long. I've done nothing except unplug it during the winter and clean the filter. I noticed it doesn't drain well, even when tilted quite far back. I'd drill a hole in the bottom to help with the draining but it's pretty high up and I'll need to borrow a ladder to reach it. ... show more
