So I live in Texas and the heat and humidity here sucks in the summer months. I’ve tried an LG window unit 12,000 BTU and another type of unit that the manufacturer name escapes me but so far this unit is probably the best one I’ve ever bought. My favorite things about this one is that the inside electrics is housed in a sturdy styrofoam casing which helps keep the inside clean and free from getting gummed up by the outside elements. Trust me-that’s a huge perk. My second favorite thing is how well it cools. Honest to god this thing is a LIFESAVER. The filter is easy to clean and you have direct access to the fins in the front for easy access to clean. My LG unit, was super heavy, you had to remove the screws, pry the front faceplate off, disconnect the electrical and slide it out of the metal casing JUST TO CLEAN. Did I mention it’s 75 lbs and you have to take it out if the window to do all if that? It was a royal pain in the ass. So when I say that not only does this unit work extremely well and efficient but it is also easy to clean-please trust me! You’re gonna appreciate that. Some people have commented on the noise-it’s honestly not bad and frankly I’d rather be cool and comfortable in the 100 degree heat and high humidity, than worry much about the noise. I sleep just fine so I don’t know, I guess it’s all about preference or priorities.

While I can't say much because i just bought this, I will say this thing is way better than my previous ac unit. I had a toshiba smart ac, same btu rating, and that thing went out in 2 months. I kept having to spray it with the hose to get it to work. This new one instantly cooled off my non insulated attic. The last one only cooled about half of it when it was working properly, again, same btu rating. I will say the only con, so far, is the remote and app. The app doesn't work for me at all. Maybe its something to do with IOS, but many reviews say the same thing. The remote is a little laggy at times, but i have no problem using the buttons on the unit itself. Plus, I feel like the remote doesnt have enough buttons??? The noise level is perfect, however, I have tinnitus, so noise is good for me when sleeping. All in all, I think this unit will be able to deliver what my old unit fell short on. I will update at the end of summer for my final thoughts. My central AC began having leaks and performance issues a couple of years ago. This summer I decided that I would no longer continue putting $$$ into endless repairs of a system that I couldn't afford to replace. This was a little less than the annual refill of leaked Freon. The house has a VERY open L-shaped floorplan with only the bathrooms and bedrooms closed off. I put it in a window between the kitchen and den since those are used the most. This thing has kept the ENTIRE HOUSE - even the bedrooms and bathrooms when the doors are open - comfortably cool. With those extra rooms closed off - the den gets a little too cool and the throw blankets start being tossed over feet and bare legs. It's loud - it's a large appliance - but no louder than if the central AC unit were on that end of the house. I'm EXTREMELY pleased with this item and if it lasts 4 or 5 years before needing replacement (even longer would be that much better!) than I've still saved hundreds of dollars.

July 2023 update: The Power outlet it was plugged into and the unit's plug fused together, melting and scorching the plastic yesterday. I will try to fix the A/C and replace the outlet, but I already ordered another one of these units. There's a newer version that is 17 lbs lighter than this one, which means it is not as good. Fortunately the 75LB version is still available. UPDATE 20 July 2020: We had an extremely hot June and July and used this heavily to good effect. Then we lost power for a few days and I ran it off a generator since that can't power the central air. Putting the machine into maximum power non-eco mode, I ran it continuously, closing the upstairs doors when we were downstairs so that it could try to cool the whole house. It couldn't of course do that, but it took the temperature from a humid 90 F down to 77 degrees and not so humid during the hottest part of the day. That's impressive. It's been a year and the unit is still doing well and we're glad we have it. ORIGINAL REVIEW You can't have it all. This (the 12,000 BTU) unit is a heavy duty machine. That's a good thing in the sense that they have not skimped on cheap light weight materials that won't actually cool at rating and that won't last. Also, while this machine is loud even at the low setting, it puts out a massive amount of cold air with a strong air flow at that low setting. The good news on the noise is that its a consistent lower pitched rumble rather than the highly annoying variable racket that cheaper models will have. Still, I think that if you mount this in your bedroom, you are going to have problems sleeping until you get used to it. About that, 12,000 BTUs isn't really meant for a bedroom, is it? We're talking about a 550 ft^2 rated unit, so what exactly is the use case here? The upstairs of my house is about 700 ft^2, and the central air is utterly unable to cool it. The upstairs hallway, right at the top of the stairs has a window where in I mounted the unit. I built a wooden frame to support it since it's 75 lb weight would have crushed the vinyl window. Because of the weight, many bad words were uttered during the installation, however the frame I built really helped me do it alone, because of leverage. The gap sealing materials they provide are very helpful, the best I've ever seen. The steel bar that goes across the top is helpful for both sealing and stabilizing the unit in the window. So, how did it work? I used low power and pointed the vents up and over, with the hope that the cold air would move down toward the bed rooms rather than uselessly go down the stairs which are right next to it. This is where the weight and noise pays off. The gigantic fan sends a tremendous volume of high speed cold air down the hall and into the two open doors there. A kind of convection occurs such that the rooms cool off. I was surprised by this, I thought the ceiling fans would be required to facilitate convection, but they were not. The machine just puts out so much cold air, so strongly that the whole upstairs is saturated quickly. It may be that we end up running this for an hour before bed and shutting it off, as once the sun goes down the temperature is not so bad in Michigan where we live, and that way we are spared the noise. As I said, you can't have it all, but the sheer power of this machine gives you options. PACKAGING: Place the box face up if it's not already. After you cut the plastic straps, lift up on the box. You will smile at how thoughtful the design of the packaging is.

This powered on. That is all. None of the controls on the control panel work. No response to the remote, either. The only way we could turn it off was the test button on the plug. We called the first day, and we got a return authorization number, printed the RMA, which stated that UPS would pick the defective product up the next business day. No UPS truck came the next day. So, we waited until Monday. We understand not wanting to do extra work on a Friday afternoon! Monday, a UPS driver came to deliver something else from Amazon. (We are frequent Amazon shoppers). We asked him if he was taking this AC with him. He looked at what we had printed and said no, that is not a shipping label. He did not have a shipping label, and had no idea about what to do. Next day, another UPS driver also did not have a label, but at least had heard of such a thing. Could not take this with no label. So, we call UPS. The agent asked for a tracking #. Would not even discuss anything without a tracking number, which should be on the label. Amazon must be the one to send such information to UPS, we have no way to send this back. If it were possible to give ZERO as a rating for the experience of buying this product from this company, that is the rating I would give. This is not a cheap item. My only remaining recourse now, is to call the credit card and report this to try and get the charge reversed. I wish I would have heeded the other warnings in the previous reviews. I went to Lowe's, bought a different one and installed it the same day. It works. A much better experience.

I bought this air conditioner for our guesthouse which is 750 sq. ft. on two levels. The air conditioner was installed on the second floor and the cool air moves down the stairwell just fine. All 750 sq. ft. of the guesthouse is very comfortable. And we just experienced one of the hottest summers in Arizona on record! And I was quite surprised that the electric bill didn't jump that much after adding it in. Makes me think I should replace the old air conditioner in the main house upstairs. We didn't really bother with the accordion side panels. It was actually going in an opening that was always intended for an air conditioner, not in the typical double hung window configuration. We put styrofoam all around the open area. I plan to put something nicer over the styrofoam. Now this is an adobe building with 20" walls. So your mileage may not be the same as mine. The remote feels a little small and chinsey, but does the job. Not too noisy. We are super pleased with it. It also has a feature where you can open it to bring in fresh air. That may be nice when the days are still hot but nights are cooler. Spring and Fall in Arizona.

Showed up in perfect condition, super cold and very quiet for a 12000 BTU unit, definitely a good quality unit. Have 2 people to lift unless you are strong like me. :flex hahaha just kidding but really, have 2 people.

This has been a blessing so far. It has the most powerful blower of any AC I've ever owned, and cold air produces cold air to cool an 800 square foot open floor plan area in late June in Eas Texas heat, and humidity. It works fast even in eco mode, and on low. I do keep it on the lowest cold setting if 62, but it doesn't struggle at all, and we actually don't have to run it all day non stop to stay comfortable. It is quite than my other 12000 BTU Kenmore, and more powerful by a long shot. The blower seems to blow about twice as forcefully as the old Kenmore to reach outer parts of the room. Now I've only had it for 10 days,but it is getting a workout, and is coming through in a big way. I will update if something goes wrong, but so far so good. It has been a great value,and wasn't any harder than any other AC to install. I always build insulated panels out of a layer of cardboard, and car window sunshade material, and a trash bag cut and wrapped neatly around the plastic which helps a tin with losing cool air. It works, but it doesn't look all that great, but then again the thin white flaps don't either. Buy with confidence on this one.
