  • Noisy but, the other benefits outweigh it
Style: 5,500 Sq. Ft. with Pump - WiFi
We've had humidity issues in our home for a while and, after a water leak, finally decided to spring on the purchase of a dehumidifier. We've been using this Midea 5500 sq. ft. dehumidifier for several months now and it has performed wonderfully. During the summer months, we had it running 24/7 and it would take about 18-20 hours to fill the tank, which holds several gallons of water. It held the humidity in the space to around 45-50%. One of my biggest complaints with the unit is the fan noise. We tried it in our living space and had to raise our voice to talk over it, even on the low setting. My second complaint is that there's no fail-safe for activating the tank pump when the tubing isn't present. Unknowingly, one of the kids (11 YO) turned on the pump and it ran for 24 hours putting gallons of water onto a carpeted floor before we realized it. Fortunately it helped dry it all back out. One of the things that I do really like, compared to other dehumidifiers I've used in the past, is that the air coming out isn't HOT. It does kick out air that's a little warmer than the ambient air but, it's not blowing out hot air. Not a primary factor in my decision to purchase this model but, a consideration, was that it could be connected to my Home Assistant instance. It connected fairly easily and I can monitor/record temperature and humidity levels and control the unit. If it weren't for the noise level, I'd consider purchasing a second one for our 2-story living space. However, when this one goes, I'd happily buy an exact replacement. ... show more

  • Works Like a Champ. Heats Like a Small Star. Still Worth It.
Style: 1,500 Sq. Ft. - WiFi
This dehumidifier absolutely slaps — and I say that as someone who lives in a region where the humidity doesn’t just make you sweat, it mocks you while doing it. The Midea 22-pint unit is compact, efficient, and clearly has a personal vendetta against moisture. I run it daily in a mid-sized bedroom and it pulls water like it’s auditioning for a job in plumbing. You’ll empty the tank and immediately wonder how your walls haven’t grown gills. But let me issue a gentle PSA: This thing runs hot. Not “oh it’s a little warm near the vent” hot — I’m talking “am I roasting a Cornish hen under this?” levels of thermal output. If you’ve got a small room, especially one that’s already warm, just know you’re trading moisture for ambient heat. Plan your airflow accordingly or prepare to enter the Toasty Zone. Another tip: the built-in sensor does the job, but it’s very much a local reading. As in, “I’m doing great right here next to me” — even while the rest of the room still feels like a Florida swamp sauna. If you're serious about full-room monitoring, pair this with a secondary RH sensor placed farther away. You’ll get a much better picture of how your microclimate is really behaving. Still, even with those caveats? It’s absolutely excellent. ✅ Removes moisture quickly and efficiently ✅ Quiet enough not to disrupt your daily life ✅ Easy to clean, easy to move ✅ Doesn’t look like a haunted relic from a 2004 utility closet I’ve run this thing for weeks, and despite the space heater vibes, I wouldn’t trade it for anything. My windows no longer fog. My sheets no longer feel like they’ve been slow-cooked. My plants are confused, but I’m thriving. Highly recommended — just don’t put it next to your bed unless you enjoy waking up in a desert. ... show more

  • Pretty nifty little Dehumidifier. Does the job, and relatively inexpensive to run.
Style: 1,500 Sq. Ft. - WiFi
I live in Northern California, and for the most part due to low rain, and drought in the past, didn't have much high humidity to speak of. This year has been very different, with a lot of warm rain every few days and weeks, bringing in 99%, and 100% humidity days for a pretty long stretch. So much so, I noticed a very large increase of indoor humidity too. So I got to looking into a seasonal type dehumidifier to help out. Enter the Midea 1,500 Sq. Ft. Energy Star Certified Dehumidifier. I purchased it January 28, 2024, and have been getting used to the way it works for the past two weeks. Dang, what a difference. After doing some further reading on how long to run it at first, I opted to let it do it's thing for the first 48 hours. Then, run it for 12 hours from mid morning to early evening when the indoor humidity levels were the highest. I don't run it on turbo mode, or comfort mode, or continuous mode. The level has been set at 40%, and it keeps the indoor RH at 40%. Okay enough of that boring stuff, on to the good part of the review. The unit is compact, easy to set up, and straight foreword to operate. I like that it is on wheels to move around if needed easily. So far I have kept a close eye on the water reservoir, and empty it out when it gets about half full. At first that was twice a day, but as the house has dried out, down to once a day. So all in all, I myself would recommend it based on my experience so far. Okay, other stuff. I read other reviews mentioning leakage. I have not so far had that issue, but I did pick up a catch pan to place underneath just in case. Not sure if this tip is helpful, but before emptying the water bucket, I'll tip the unit forward to let additional water drain out first. Other reviews mention the fan is loud. Perhaps it is a bit, but not any more loud than running the AC fan in the summer, and certainly not excessively loud. This unit was designed to move air and circulate in a 1,500 square foot space, and it does a bang up job of it. I've only had it for about two to three weeks so I can't speak to it's longevity, but really these days appliances aren't built for and don't really last for decades anyways. They're all disposable, and that's the way it is. The house is perceptively less humid, feels great, and that weird winter time musty aroma that would occasionally seep up from the crawl space has vanished. With all that said... It's up to you, but I'd give this one a shot. ... show more
