I purchased this premium Surface Laptop 7th Edition with 32GB RAM from BestBuy. The hardware itself is excellent — fast, thin, beautiful display, and great battery life. However, I spent several days troubleshooting serious compatibility issues that Microsoft does not adequately warn buyers about. Here is an honest summary: The Core Issue — ARM Processor Compatibility: This laptop uses a Snapdragon X ARM64 processor instead of the traditional Intel/AMD chips found in most Windows PCs. Many common peripherals and software programs either don't work or cause serious problems because their drivers haven't been updated for ARM. Microsoft should be much more upfront about this at point of sale. Specific Issues I Encountered: System freezing — Dropbox and OneDrive competing during initial sync caused severe system instability. Fixed by throttling Dropbox bandwidth and using selective sync to limit local files. Mouse compatibility — My HP Bluetooth mouse caused repeated Windows Explorer crashes due to missing ARM64 drivers. Always verify your peripherals have ARM64 drivers before buying this laptop. Antivirus conflicts — Third party antivirus (BitDefender) caused significant instability. Windows Defender works perfectly and is sufficient — don't install third party antivirus on this machine. Adobe Acrobat incompatibility — Installing full Adobe Acrobat corrupted the Windows print spooler, making all printing impossible system-wide. Required multiple complete Windows resets to resolve. Use Adobe Reader only and Word's built-in Export to PDF function instead. Webcam incompatibility — My Logitech webcam has no ARM64 drivers and does not work properly. Multiple Windows resets required — Getting the laptop stable required three full Windows resets over two days of troubleshooting. What Works Well: Exceptional hardware — thin, light, premium build quality Outstanding display Excellent battery life Windows Defender — fully ARM compatible Microsoft Office — works well once properly configured OneDrive — seamless once set up correctly Snapdragon X performance is genuinely impressive when stable My Recommendations Before Buying: Verify every piece of software you use has ARM64 compatibility Verify every peripheral (mouse, webcam, printer) has ARM64 drivers Do NOT install full Adobe Acrobat — use Reader only Do NOT install third party antivirus Use OneDrive as your primary cloud storage If you rely heavily on specialized software, consider an Intel-based laptop instead Bottom Line: This is a genuinely powerful and beautiful laptop that delivers on its hardware promise. But the ARM processor creates real compatibility challenges that Microsoft does not adequately disclose. With the right software setup it runs well, but getting there requires significant technical knowledge. Great laptop that is truly made for business purposes. All software and print drivers loaded without any problems. I previously tried the laptop with the snapdragon processor and I had so many problems with software and hardware compatibility. I highly recommend this laptop!

I did not purchase this through Amazon. My work issued me the device. I've been using laptops for decades. This unit has, hands down, the worst trackpad I've ever used. It regularly fails to detect presses, pokes, jabs, and finger movements. I am not always in a place where I can use a mouse. Totally unacceptable. I do like the screen. ... show more
