  • Great for editing on premier pro
I got the surface dial to work on premier pro. It is a cool device, easy to setup and then just press it in and scroll to what you want to change. You can control your volume as well as change the zoom and other things. I still use it now.

  • I'm in love and I just got started
I'm a mouse snob, I'm a keyboard fanatic, and so much so that I often replace devices within 6 months or as soon as they start responding in a way that is "not like new". A variety of those keyboards have been Microsoft, the majority of those mice have been Logitech Anywhere models, and I had an obsession with this device since I first saw it. I love it. LOVE. I'm using it with a Surface Pro 2017 as a scroll device. The device itself is so well built and textured/dial weighted. It feels like you're working with a physical device as you scroll down a list or use it for other purposes, it feels like you're interacting with the computer on a deeper, more physical level. It adds enjoyment to using the tablet! Unboxing was easy, pairing was simple, the metal texture keeps a natural coolness from the ambient temperature and I couldn't enjoy that more. The bottom is slightly sticky (not magnetic as I had assumed? Or if so, in addition). I know the original applications for this have originally been in graphic and design, I can also imagine amazing uses for music leveling and layer/design, gaming... you name it. I hesitated on purchasing this because I viewed the device as "optional". If I could replace my mouse with it, I would. And with the stylus on Surface Pro, I probably could. Looking forward to many more miles & dials with this new friend. :) ... show more

  • Futuristic & Fun but not useful enough for it's price
It's a novel concept, beautiful and slik but not many uses. For me I use it to scroll down while reading PDFs and long articles

  • Excellent device in need of app support
have only recently discovered the power of OneNote as a debugging aid, tracing old program logic, sketching out design ideas for projects around the house as well as software development, etc. I bought MS Dial solely for use with OneNote to change pen thickness/colors quickly. Unfortunately, the OneNote team did not or could not integrate MS DIal functionality with basic pen functions. This was a major disappointment. However, I was able to use MS Dial for VS 2017 builds and debugging. I enjoy doing so at the twist or a tap of MS Dial. In this regard, I've found value enough for my purchase. While scrolling through documents/web pages and adjusting speaker volume is cool, also, MS Dial is an expensive alternative to what MS Arc Mouse does rather nicely. As others have noted, the MS Dial is another excellent Surface device that gets the job done in a new, fun and intuitive way. Too bad its utility hasn't been incorporated across MS' wide spectrum of excellent software. I dinged it one star because it does take a while to wake up. Although I did improve its responsiveness somewhat by turning off BT power management for HID devices using Device Manager. Not a good thing, really, given it defeats the purpose of power management. But it allows me to get some return on my investment while MS software teams get their act together with MS engineers' ingenuity. ... show more

  • Almost great
Good: - Feels great to use, smooth control - Amazing battery life (the reason for this is also a negative see below) - Decently Customizable - Well built Bad: - Goes to sleep and disconnects after a few minutes of inactivity. This helps on battery life buts drives me nuts because for many work flows I have to wake the thing back up every time I need it. I wish this sleep time was customizable but it is not. This unfortunately renders it very frustrating to use in real work so I've reverted to using a customized trackball instead. Real shame as its a great device otherwise and would be fixable with one setting. ... show more

  • Contemporary, minimalist perfection!
The surface dial takes a bit of time to master and get used to... But so did my very first computer mouse. Microsoft has a winner here 4 design on Surface products. Although the surface dial does work with my regular pc as well I am hopeful that Microsoft will expand its features to work with more apps on a regular desktop PC. For the surface though, this is an extremely sophisticated and minimalist design that gets the job done. I love the new design direction of all Microsoft products. They are all Simply Beautiful and I get so many compliments. ... show more

  • An Option Instead of a Mouse and/or A Fun Supplement
A great product that allows quick response for moving your cursor instead of a mouse and can be used for drawing. It allows a wide variety to mix all colors you can imagine. It's a tad expensive but I purchased this for my high school age granddaughter who is learning computer usage off of a Surface Go. She likes it much better than her mouse. Lastly, Brightness of no significance for it makes colors as it should if you were mixing them by hand, only much faster. I find it to be a fun gadget to use. It uses less desk top space than a mouse. ... show more

  • Moderately useful with Surface Book
A wonderful companion to my Surface Book. I imagine it's 'way better on a Surface Studio. I wish more programs supported its functionality, I use it mostly as either a volume control or a scroll wheel in day-to-day settings. It's much better than scrolling via trackpad or setting volume via function buttons. It gets a slightly better chance to shine with Sketchable, but I'm at best a hack artist, so it's a little wasted. But still, I really enjoy it. ... show more
