  • Pretty good but could use improvements.
This is at the high end of the price spectrum for mini table saws here on Amazon. I have only used it so far to cut cedar panels and panels with leather adhered but it has worked quite well. I did have to add tape to the square to keep it from being wobbly and it would be very helpful if the table could be expanded as the size can be very limiting. The other criticism I have is that the switch, covered in a rubber membrane, can be hard to find and actuate depending on the distance from your eye to the saw-I will replace this. ... show more

  • Great after some minor tweaks
I have no idea why Micro Mark loves slotted screws so much, but boy that love is evident in this great little table saw. Nearly every screw that you'll need to turn frequently is slotted, and it's not a one-size-fits-all situation, if you want to make quick adjustments you'll need an assortment from big chunky flat blades to tiny delicate ones. So my first modification was to the blade storage door, the large slotted nut was awkward to open with a screwdriver so I cut a piece of aluminum to fit in the slot and created a wing nut by gluing it in place. Other slotted screws were also replaced with allen heads, all accepting the same size driver. Second issue was fit and finish, The fence had a bunch of molding flash on the underside which didn't allow for completely smooth operation and would eventually scratch the table surface. I ground that away using a rotary tool. Next, the rule and numbers cast into the plastic body were impossible to see so I filled them with bright orange enamel, then lightly wet sanded to make all the edges crisp so everything can now be read on the fly. My next modification was to mount the saw to a base of 3/4" plywood which I'd embedded four rare earth magnets in the underside and covered with rubber anti-vibe mat. This allowed the saw to be solidly fixed to my metal work bench without being permanently mounted. The addition of the plywood with its rubber mat made the saw study enough to stay put during regular use, so it's a good option even without the magnets. Besides these small tweaks, the saw is an amazing tool and so great for those little cuts which still require more accuracy than I can get with my bandsaw. The variable speed is an impressive option and makes cutting a wide variety of materials so much easier. All the controls are located on the front of the saw and are perfectly straightforward. The saw feels sturdy and very well built, the table surface is perfectly flat and the blade adjustment was correct right from the factory on my unit. I do wish that Micro Mark could spend a bit more on the small things already mentioned, but for a niche product like this I'm sure build costs are already high so I understand. ... show more

  • Should have ordered the Proxxon. Dangerously imprecise.
I went between this and the Proxxon FET for a good bit, and ultimately, everything I read was that these are the 'same saw' made in the same factory in Japan. So I decided to order from the US company for a little less money, and I sprung for the 'value' package with additional accessories. Well, now that I've received it and put it through its paces to some degree, I can't say I'm not disappointed. There are a couple of MAJOR differences between this one and the Proxxon that, for me, may wind up having me exchange them. First - is the miter slots. The slots on this saw are totally non-standard, perhaps 7mm wide and very shallow -2 or so mm. The Proxxon actually uses t-channel slots that might be standard, but even if they aren't, the additional depth and shape, make the accessories that slide into them much more secure. The included miter 'fence' on the Microlux is trash. It has play in the tracks, has no stop or fence of any kind and it can't really be clamped upon or used for any kind of precision work. The fence and gauge also leave something to be desired. You can't read the measurements unless you bend over and squint - they're just printed into the plastic. Oddly, an older version of this saw came with a very nice digital fence gauge. The Proxxon at least has a legible printed ruler on the front for adjustment. It also has a built in cross cut stop on the leg extension, which the Microlux does not. Lastly, the Proxxon body swings open easily for cleaning and blade changes, unlike the MM, which has a simple hatch on the side for the same. I could live with all of these except for the miter slots. Of all the corners cut, this one is the most egregious and why I'll probably switch. The form factor of the saw however, is really awesome, and you really can do a lot with a little saw like this. Lastly, the accessories I paid for in the bundle seem like afterthoughts. Some inaccurate brass bar stock as rip gauges, a frustrating to use tapering jig, etc. Not worth the upcharge whatsoever. My advice is if you're contemplating the both of these like I did, and the extra $50 won't kill you, go with the Proxxon. Edit: I've definitely decided to return this saw now after doing a little more testing and I've lowered my review from 3 to 2 stars. Was trying to cut miters for a relatively small box using 1/4inch material and despite a good setup, none of my cuts were square. I attached some photos. With the blade vertical at 90 degrees, you can see it is square to the miter fence (at least mostly - the miter fence doesn't register at exactly 0 either, but it is a piece of junk). With the blade arbor tilted to 45 degrees, suddenly the blade is at least 3 degrees off from the miter slot!! That is a HUGE amount, especially when using a 'precision' tool. Note, that if you were to use this blade tilted with the rip fence, it becomes narrower behind the blade, which is a dangerous recipe for kickback. If you get one of these, definitely check your blade for squareness on all cuts before keeping it. There's no easy or 'in warranty' way to adjust blade angle on these saws. ... show more

  • Check out Proxxon before buying
Upon unboxing I was disappointed to see the quality of both the saw and attachments was so poor. I then tested on several small pieces of wood and a piece of thin aluminum hoping it would impress, but alas, disappointed again. Within an hour after opening I ordered a Proxxon saw which arrived today and was compared side by side. All I can say is if you are in doubt at all, go with the Proxxon as there is a tremendous difference in both build quality of the saw and the accessories. Very happy with the Proxxon and couldn't box this one up quick enough for the trip to Kohl's! Lastly, after hundreds of purchases over many years, this is my first review to my memory. ... show more

  • It got the job done
Great if you don't have room for a full size table saw. Hubby used it for a couple home projects. He said it was adequate to get the job done although he wasn't super impressed with the precision. That said he still likes it, particularly since we do not have room for anything bigger.
