ORIGINAL REVIEW: Packed well for shipment. Easy to assemble. The base is made of sturdy metal. Chrome post, C-mount and focus knob operate easily and smoothly. The focus ring has slight friction in a portion of its travel, but not a significant issue for me. Zoom lens (0.7x to 4.5x with 0.5x adapter) permits obtaining views with wider field of view (FOV), or higher magnification. (As another reviewer observed, there is significant focus shift with zoom. It would be helpful if the zoom had compensation for focus, so that once focus was adjusted at high magnification, zooming out would stay in focus. This would also keep working distance constant.) FOV @ 0.7x = 0.85" (21.5mm) working distance = 5.9" (15cm) FOV @ 4.5x = 0.10" (2.5mm) working distance = 4.0" (10cm) (FOV was measured horizontally on 16:9 HDTV with camera below.) This is definitely a solid foundation for a good inspection microscope system; it just needs a camera and light source. I added the Hayear 1080P 60fps 2K Full HD 16MP HDMI USB C-Mount Camera and the Micrl Microscope Ring Light Adjustable 56 LED Illuminator to create my inspection microscope. Very happy with this unit. 5/19/20 UPDATE: I discovered the camera I purchased is a CS mount. Needs a 5mm CS-to-C adapter ring to match this C mount lens. Installing it brings working (focal) distances of 0.7x and 4.5x much closer together. Now 0.7x working distance = 3.5" (8.9cm) 4.5x working distance = 3.9" (9.9cm) Makes focusing after adjusting zoom much less extensive. Not quite perfect parfocal adjustment, but much closer. Mine appears to need a slightly less than 5mm thick adapter to be a good parfocal zoom. The lens may have a further adjustment for this, but this unit does not come with instructions for any lens tweaking. I may just lap down the adapter to get closer. Note: My working distances are measured from the lens. My illuminator reduces working distance by about 0.5" (1.3 cm). Still very pleased with this combination. ... show more
