Description

The 4-1/2" 12 Amp AC Brushless Variable Speed Angle Grinder G12VE2 offers exceptional performance and flexibility with six speed settings for more control. This is the tool you need whether you are polishing/finishing, removing paint, rust, burrs, grinding or rough grinding. The robust 12 Amp brushless AC motor delivers a no-load speed of 2,500 to 8,500 RPM, which allows you to take on a wide variety of tasks. The brushless motor is ultra efficient and permits the use of extra long extension cords with reduced power loss, extends product life and eliminates maintenance of armatures or carbon brushes. Provided safety features are kickback protection, zero voltage restart and soft start. A tool-less wheel guard and 3 position side handle provide the user increased operational efficiency. An anti-vibration side handle is included for user comfort. A removable dust filter offers additional protection for the motor against dust and debris and ensuring the tool is operating effectively as desired. Superior performance is when using a generator via an internal inverter circuit that regulates uneven power supply.

  • lightweight, slow
Style: G12VE2 (Next Gen Model)
I was shocked to learn that it tops out at 8,000 RPM, far less than most grinders yet costing 4x as much. Such a strange design choice especially considering that they made it with a speed control. You have rare earth magnets saving a ton of energy, why not leverage that efficiency for more speed and power?? Especially as we are paying 4x as much for it. Well. At least the motor will outlast all the rest of the parts, so that's cool. The bright side is it's extremely lightweight and low profile giving the user more control and agility than any other grinder, so I will keep it on for detailing work. Not a complete waste of money but I question Hitachi's choices here. ... show more

  • Great finishing grinder
Style: G12VE2 (Next Gen Model)
We use these grinders in our fabrication shop. These grinders have a small diameter handle that allows them to be positioned easily for finishing. The adjustable speed allows to you slow the speed down and apply some pressure to smooth out our welds. Great product!

  • Not upset, but not impressed.
I expected this grinder to be epic.— But it’s just okay. I thought it would be thinner than my other grinders, but I’ve pictured it next to my 4.5” makita and it’s about the same. It’s just a lot longer and heavier. The material on the casing is very slippery. I had to hold it even tighter than slightly larger bodied grinders, so cut up 60 grit sanding discs and glued them to the casing. Grip is good now. -Then, after about a week of full time use, it has started to randomly loose RPMs and then rev back to full speed. It’s not consistent. -The vibration is about the same as my other grinders. -The power is great at any RPM I guess I can handle the weight and length, and with the grip issue being fixed, it’s fine. BUT- that random RPM change is aggravating and dangerous. When I called the tech at Metabo he suggested I return it for a replacement, but Amazon had none available. Instead, I was refunded, and I don’t think I’ll buy it again. It does not seem worth it to me to go brushless, and pay the extra money in this case. I’m not impressed. — not upset, but not impressed. *** June 2021 update: The intermittent rpm problem became worse over a 6 month period, and I put the grinder away, thinking I’d have it repaired if it ever became convenient to take it to one of the Metabo recommended repair shops, 3 hours away. Instead, I ended up taking it to a local repair shop, to see if Metabo would still honor the warranty. They did. The whole rear assembly of the grinder had to be replaced: everything behind the motor. Now, it is my primary 5” hard wheel grinder, and I occasionally switch out a wire wheel when I’d like to slow it down and do detail work. — changing the rating from an original 2 star to a 4 star rating. A grippy casing would make it a 5 star product. Jacob Dean ... show more

  • Happy I paid extra for variable speed
So far this thing is great. Hopefully it lasts. I use m18 milwaukee and panasonic 18v stuff, which are great. My panasonic 18v grinder does not have VS. i was going to buy the m18 VS, but its very expensive and cant find any used or ebay for cheap. Plus i was picturing it with a 8.0 or 12AH battery and it just seemed too bulky. This thing is amazing. Using lower speeds for sanding or concrete work is so much more manageable. I got this specifically to sand down the coating on my patio to feather in new coats. The 40g flapper gets too hot and gummy with a single speed. The lowest speed is pretty slow and as you apply force to the disc, the torque picks up without speed changes. I wish it had a nicer side handle, but thats not a deal breaker. I think Im sold on VS grinder from now on. I suppose if you only worked on metal, you would benefit less from the VS, maybe better flapper or scotch pad life. But it turns the angle grinder into an exceptionally more versatile tool. Also the brushless seems much quieter. It doesnt have the squeal of universal motors. Id also recommend watching for heat at lower speeds since it can't cool as well since the fan is going slower, but can still draw a lot of Amperage ... show more

  • Easy to handel thin body
Brushless and speed reducing option with anti kick and auto off safety during power failure. (won't kick on when plugged back into power if switch was left on.) Makes a whining noise at higher RPM but after a year or more using my first one of these I bought 2 more. Brushless is a great advantage and speed reducing is a must as well for metal grinding and cutting. Also great for wood sanding too. I prefer a paddle switch so it turns off when I let go of the grinder but with the anti kick (works great) it makes for a pretty safe operation anyways. I have yet to drop this grinder, it is kinda heavy but not as bad as other variable speed grinders I have used and not so light weight as to break in a few months like the cheap tools from ... Getting them on sale at $150 is a pretty good buy, $200 sucks but if I needed one I would pay that before buying a $50 single speed grinder. ... show more

  • Works good, handle design
Good little grinder, doesn't seem to get hot, like the adjustable speed control. I don't like the handle design or location it feels too close to the wheel/disc and the angle isn't the best if your holding onto it using it for hours at a time. Overall a good buy though.

  • Great tool light weight and small yet powerful
I am a professional stonemason I've owned lots of different grinders this grinder is smaller and lighter but just as powerful. It does not get hot all the other grinders have brushes they get hot this is brushless. I've only owned this for six or seven weeks I use it almost everyday it's the best grinder I've ever had. I've been using grinders for 40 years. Runs very smooth I love the adjustable speed dial. It has six numbers it goes from one through six for the speed setting but you can set it anywhere in between any of those numbers. I highly recommend it. I don't know how long it will last so I renew this in a year or two if it breaks down and can't be repaired or if it doesn't ... show more
