The handles are shaped to prevent rolling in your grip. The dimpling reduces vacuum lock between slices of food, similar to hand-made hyper-expensive Japanese blades. Great Knives, Case broke and I almost lost a knife the first time I carried it to work by shoulder strap. Other than that slight but major issue for a set of this price I loved the case and the knives. The seems at the bottom that hold the knives in case came out quick.
