So let’s get the criticisms out-of-the-way first. This bed took six hours for me to assemble. Steps five and steps, 19 CANNOT be done with one person. I had to enlist the help of the neighbor to hold pieces in place for the assembly – I mean, who can hold a piece underneath and screw it in from the top while holding two other pieces together From the base? That being said, everything was labeled really well! I did have to disassemble two sections and reassemble them in the right way because the instructions were not completely clear for part of the steps and putting two things backwards didn’t work, but fortunately the Next steps in the instructions caught the issue right away, so I wasn’t too far into it when I made the mistake. Most of the pilot holes are perfect and make things very easy. The instructions did say to hand tighten the bolts and screws, but there is absolutely no way I could have hand tightened everything so I did use a power drill with an Allen bit and with a screw. I did have to remove some of the stickers because the parts labels showed after assembly. The backing does not have any kind of pilot holes so the drill with screwdriver bit was absolutely necessary. Despite the aggravation and difficulty putting it together, the bed is beautiful! The folding hinges felt very tight when I was putting them on, but once they were attached, everything folds and unfolds easily with no binding. Our son visited last weekend and slept on the bed with a 6 inch folding mattress and was perfectly comfortable. I love how much space the folding bed provides when it is, plus the desk and built-in side tables and power outlets are very convenient. The bed is very sturdy and I have absolutely no worries that it is not going to stand up to use – it feels like high-quality wood and has lots of points of connection. ... show more

    • Assembly is a challenge, but a nice product
Gave a four stars because of the quality and sturdiness once finally assembled. A D on assembly. Better have a drill, strength and logic putting this together. Pilot holes are off center, too small and not deep enough. That’s where a drill comes in. The inferior long, soft metal screws tightened with a long inadequate ale wrench that comes with it requires strength and precision or the bolt heads strip. Best to get American bolts from a hardware store. Product is nice once assembled. It a a large piece of furniture when not in use. Recommdation to the manufacturer is to make the leg/shelf with locking hinges so it can be lowered instead of a fixed shelf when not in use. Impressed with the engineering of this bed. ... show more

It was a little tedious to put together and yes as others mentioned the instructions are not the greatest but the result is worth it. And the price is very reasonable compared to others on the market.

    • Some cosmetic damage...so not great

This product is amazing. We really love the design and how solid it feels. The only reason we gave it 3 stars is because of the cosmetic damage to the bottom parts. Some parts seemed like they were not sanded down fully before being painted. We had a out 3 spots like a that. Mlyou can't really see them until you are putting it together and by then it's a big hassle to even bother with doing anything other than completing putting it together. Overall it's perfect for what we wanted. But it lost 2 stars because once you see the blemishes in the paint and on the bed you can't unsee it. ... show more

    • Wishes don't come true
This thing is horrible. It seems like a great price for a great product, but the instructions are darn near non-existent. The idea of putting real wood pieces together using an Allen wrench is insane. I bought it last January. I was in and out of the hospital and didn't get to putting it together right away. It's defective. The screws break up the wood and what I was able to get in did not put the pieces together securely. Unless you're ready to pay someone to put it together, it's a nightmare. I'm having to pay a carpenter $300+ to put the darn thing together, since I can't get them to take it back. And "Merax," doesn't really exist. This is a great bed. Arrived in 2 boxes and I assembled it alone. A helper would have helped with lifting and holding heavy pieces. Definitely get yourself a relatively large 5/32” Allen wrench. It comes with 3 small ones but a larger is best for long wood screws. Get the mattress referenced on the page and the fitted sheet on the mattress page. Probably one of the best purchases I have made! We became empty nesters and I transformed one of our daughter’s bedrooms into my “she” office. I bought this Murphy bed desk combo and it’s been great! My husband is mechanically inclined, and I did warn him it may be hard to put together, but he said it was rather easy for “him” thankfully. It looks so cute too and our daughter has come back and slept on the bed and says it’s really comfy! But now I have an office/work out room! ... show more

    • Guest bed with pain price while building

I want to start by saying that the finished build was sturdy and very comfortable for my guest. My issue was with the build itself. As others have mentioned (and I learned the hard way), most of this build can be done with a powered screwdriver...it'll shave an hour off easily (and your hands will thank you). Now, as far as the finished product, here's what we liked: - Folds away nicely, reducing its footprint - Power outlet with USB ports, made it easy for charging without looking for a wall outlet - Great look, fits in nicely with other pieces of furniture ... show more
