My mission was to build an effective, durable, and rugged battle rifle. The Mepro 21 is not only the first Mako product that I've actually been satisfied with, but it has exceeded my expectations for a battery-less holographic sight. I've read a few reviews on this product and have seen some people complaining about the way it looks mounted on their rifles. Not only does it do the job, but, aesthetically, it is pleasing as well. It's not that heavy. The quick attach levers worked perfectly and gave it a snug and secure fit on my rifle's rails. Low Light Test: I blacked out my room completely and could still see the optical just fine. Bright Light Test: On a sunny and abnormally warm day I saw the optical with ease. Also, it's cheaper than an EOtech. And guess what? No more batteries either. This sight is the real deal. My one complaint is that the optical can be lightly blurred at times. I attribute this to the light level. It seems to struggle when looking through rooms with different light levels. For example, while sitting in a dark room and attempting to focus the sight on a target in another room that was well lit, I experienced a bit of fading with the optical. While it wasn't impossible to see the optical, the fading was definitely noticeable. This technology is still relatively new, so I expect that Mako will eventually find a solution to this minor bug.

Top notch reflex sight. Built like a tank. No switches, electronics, or batteries to malfunction. It can actually be cleaned off with water! Wider field of view than other similar sights. Zeros easily and stays zeroed. Nice QD release mount (big $ option on some). Bright clear reticle especially in med-high light levels (fiber optic/light guide driven). The tritium low light back-up also works well (auto/always on). Some complain about wash-out of the reticle when operating on the tritium light source, but that only occurs in rare situations when the shooter's in a dark area and the optic is pointed at a bright light source like a window or lamp. And once an object/target comes into view between the light source and the shooter, the reticle is again instantly visible so "no harm - no foul" in my book.

Used the Bullseye reticle M-21 - tossed it on an Arsenal SAM7SF AK in 7.62x39 and did a quick zero. Coming from the world of aimpoint and Eotech, I was curious how it would perform. Ran some CQB and it worked flawlessly all morning. Then for the final actual test, shot 3 shots at 300 meters at a silhouette shaped gong, of the 3 shots 2 hits. Cannot complain. Excellent optic, very clear on an overcast day and works well for a myriad of shooting styles. Pros: Clear Reticle, built like a tank, no batteries required, performs exceptionally at a reasonable price. Cons: Washout is real - it’s not a game breaker though. Lens, mine wasn’t polarized - while also not a game breaker - get a polarized lens option. 5/5 will be my standard optic moving forward.

Pros: - bullseye reticle works great - always on, no batteries to worry about - no brightness settings to adjust - holds zero perfectly - quick target acquisition - works well with my cheap (primary arms) 3x magnifier - easy to see in daylight and darkness - appears to be built like a tank - I have a minor astigmatism and I can see the reticle perfectly Cons: - can get washed out with very bright light (I have a surefire scout light on my rail that can was out the reticle) - can have trouble when veiwing outside in bright day light from inside (not a very practical test) - reticle is not as sharp or precise as an eotech circle with dot - weighs a lot and takes up a lot of rail space I am very happy with this optic. I love that it is always on and ready day or night. I don't have to turn it on, worry about dead batteries or adjust brightness. It is a little pricey and not as nice a reticle, but it works great for me and I couldn't be much happier. Quick and easy two eyed target acquisition and a lot of fun to shoot with. I like the bullseye reticle a lot better than the standard red dot type sights (just not as much as an eotech).

Excellent tight quick release mounting system. I have no washout problem at all. With the bullseye reticle, the outer circle of the reticle alligns perfectly and fills the tip of the front sight post. With a bright streamlight mounted on the weapon, even when pointed at a lit white wall, the reticle is bright and sharp and presents itself well against the back of the black front sight. In total darkness the reticle is clear, not too bright and not too dim. The bullseye reticle is a bit too busy even for sighting in at 25 yards. It is still very tough to beat the EO Tech with 3X magnifier for precise shooting, though that combination together with a small Streamlight brings the package to 9 pounds 11 1/2 ounces. The EO TEch and the M21 each have their own advantages.

General Pros & Cons: Pros: - Built like a tank - Reticle brightness adjusts very well to current lighting - Reticle is easy to acquire - No batteries - Co-witness (in bottom 3rd) with AR platform - Price includes mount - no extra $100+ to make it usable Cons: - There is still washout when looking from dark room to lighter area (The bane of all reflex sights) - Also washout when looking from well-lit (sunlight) to dark room (reticle can get so bright it obstructs what you can see in darker room. Covering/Shading with opposite hand helps, but then you're not as stable shooting). Other Thoughts: I have seen that one reviewer mentioned some play between the optic and it's mount. When I received mine, this play was also present - I can move it ~1/16th of an inch but it springs right back. So I contacted Mako Industries directly, since it almost appeared to me to be an intentional feature. The Rep at Mako explained to me that this play IS part of the design to reduce damage from recoil. The reticle holds zero without any problem. This Optic is an EXCELLENT optic. I would have given 5 stars if it wasn't for the washout - which seems unavoidable with all battery-free reflex sights. Also, in retrospect, I think I would have preferred the triangle reticle over the bullseye - but that's just my opinion. I like the idea of using the top point of triangle as the point of aim better, as with the bullseye, the top portion of ring obstructs what you can see above your point of aim. I highly recommend this optic.

This sight is amazing. Admittedly, it's the first proper red dot sight i've owned-- my AR, my AKs, and my KSG have the cheapo Sightmarks on them. but i decided i wanted something better for my Tavor, so i bought this based on the good reviews i was seeing for it and the amazing torture test i saw on youtube. It's awesome. never needing batteries is awesome. the bullseye reticle is awesome. the QR mounts are awesome. I can make my 10" plate rack dance about as fast as i can pull the trigger with it. If i had to nitpick, i'd say the common complaint of washout is valid. if you are in a dark room, looking out into a sunny outdoor setting, the reticle is a bit hard to see. that being said, it's only in extreme situations, and even then the sight is usable, just not overly fast. Admittedly, i've never used an EOTech or an ACOG, so i can't say how it would compare. But i can definitely say that i got my money's worth out of it.

This is an excellent reflex sight that never needs batteries and adjusts the reticle brightness to current lighting conditions with its bullseye reticle. I would have preferred a chevron reticle, but that's not available unless I go with a Trijicon and pay the price for it. Like all reflex sights, the reticle suffers from washout when the sight is in a dark setting and your target is brightly lit, BUT with a slight modification, you can all but nullify this slight flaw. You can buy a battery operated LED light that attaches to the side of the M21 that you can turn on when the reticle is washed out, and it will brighten the reticle significantly! The light is called the Wash-Out Remover (WOR) and is available from Bullpup Armory for about 30 bucks. It attaches to the side of your M21 using one of your pre-existing screws and screw holes, so no permanent modification to your M21 is necessary. Yes, it takes batteries, but even if the batteries are dead, your M21 optic still works, so it's not much of a drawback. I highly recommend you check it out.
