Fairly impressed with this scope! I spent a fair amount of time researching entry level thermals like this one and ultimately decided to buy the Rix Storm S2 for a few reasons. I looked at an ATN Thor mini and the AGM Rattler V2 and while it was a close tie between the Rattler and the Rix Storm S2, it came down to the battery options. The AGM uses a proprietary battery while the Rix S2 uses an off the shelf 18650 flat top battery, a huge plus for me personally. As for features, the Rix S2 has a little lighter feature set, but for me simplicity is a plus. It still has built in Wi-Fi and the ability to live stream what the scope is seeing to your phone. Additionally, the app for the scope has a lot of features to customize and control the scope and was easy to install and use. The screen on the scope is a bit small, but it is a budget scope. The resolution was adequate and the available color palates and choice of reticles are very good. I will say, if you have older eyes like mine and require glasses or readers, you'll definitely need them with the scope. I had to use my readers to see the screen clearly. For someone with good eyesight, this shouldn't be an issue, actually not an issue for me, just a fact of life and getting older. Anyway, resolution and field of view is good. The scope has native 3.5x magnification with zoom to 7x and 14x. At close range, ~100 yards or less, the resolution is good, I can identify most critters clearly at this range, (squirrel, raccoon, rabbit, etc.), and the heat signature is highly visible. On larger animals, there is more than adequate resolution and target definition. The scope can "see" much further, but the resolution makes clear identification of the target a bit more challenging but well within the realm of useability and what the manufacturer claims the scope can do. Now the last item, sighting in the scope. This was a fairly straight forward procedure. It was a bit confusing figuring out the button sequence, but a quick trip to YouTube and a couple of videos later, the procedure was figured out. The summarized version is to get your shot on paper and then position the reticle on the center of the target where you want your point of impact, press a button to freeze the screen, move the cross hairs to where your bullet impacted and then save the data. Fire a confirmation round and make any adjustments as needed. The scope does the adjustments internally and puts the new point of impact where you indicated. I highly recommend using a bipod, shooting bag, bench or some other means of supporting and stabilizing your weapon for this process. As for the target, it will need to have a heat signature, and Rix does include 10 small, self-adhesive hot spot targets. (like small hand warmers, which BTW will make a good, inexpensive heat source for your target). I was able to sight in and zero the rifle in about 3 shots at 25 yards in about 5-10 minutes. It would have been faster, but I was also learning the controls and such at the same time. As for useability in the daytime, the scope will work in full sunlight as it only sees heat, not conventional visual input. Be sure to read the user manual about proper use and care of the scope to prevent damage. As for mounting the scope, it has a QD style mount that fits a standard Picatinny rail. I currently have mine mounted on an S&W MP15-22 with built in rail and it fits perfectly. Lastly, the scope is lightweight, not overly large or bulky, and it seems to have decent battery life and easy to use controls. It can store multiple weapon profiles, making it easy to use on multiple weapons without having to re-zero. It comes with a two-battery USB charger and two 18650 batteries, a neoprene scope cover/sock and lens cleaning cloth and 10 heat targets. As for negatives with the scope, my biggest complaint is with the user manual, it uses pictograms/icons to illustrate the button functions which is good, however, explanatory text is mostly lacking. The other item is the size of the screen, but I knew this when I purchased it so it's just an observation. Resolution is good, but the screen size is small but competitive with the other brands considered at this price point. I am very pleased with the purchase and would buy again now that I've had a chance to use it. The pricing on the scope was competitive with the ATN and AGM and the manufacturer was running a special with $50.00 off at the time I purchased it making it an even better deal. After using it for a while, I'll try to remember to come back here and update this review. Thanks for reading!

This is my first thermal I have ever bought and I absolutely love it. I bought the S2 version to save a little money and to try it out without breaking the bank for a thermal. Very impressed with the ease of use and the image quality of the RIX. The video is before I mounted it and was watching a coyote walk right behind the house about 100 yds out. After mounting it to a 300 Blackout it was time to sight it in. Was able to zero it in with one shot using the sighting in feature and the included thermal targets in broad daylight with ease. Went back out the next day a shot a few rounds to make sure zero was still held. Took the RIX thermal off and added it to a .22 and was able to zero that gun as my second gun. The pics of the target are at 100 yds for the 300 blackout using the included thermal target. The .22 was sighted in at 50 yds. Also zeroed it on 5.56. It’s nice that you can store multiple zeroes if you plan on moving the thermal between guns. Next came some testing on moving the scope back and forth between the 3guns and seeing if zero would be held. Shot about 200 rounds between the 3 guns moving the scope between the 3 and it held zero perfect during the shooting. As long as you lock it on the rail in the same place as you zeroed it from, it worked flawlessly. This thermal is a game changer for seeing what’s out there at night. So far so good and I will definately be buying RIX again. Excellent value for the money spent.

I was skeptical at first of trying a 256 scope but I liked the idea of the 18650 battery and the price point and I’ve got it out a few times playin around and I’m very impressed the furthest cattle is 120yds the deer are 250+ yds it’s a lot better image than I was expecting I have not actually coyote hunted with it yet but plan to soon but so far I see know reason I couldn’t identify and take a effective shot on one out to 200 ish which our shots around us are usually 150 and in. But it’s very user friendly and a heck of a value for the money in my opinion. Sight in was easy and held great groups. And the company I ordered from on here essence outdoors llc was great to deal with I had some question on the order and they responded almost immediately and stayed in touch so far so good on my end. If you wanna try to get into the thermal game but don’t have a fourtune to spend give it a shot and I’m tellin a true honest review

Easy to set up, and the best purchase we’ve made. We have critters that get into our pastures and mess with our baby calves. We are able to see them clearly, and accurately remove them. It isn’t heavy and will fit on any gun. You can program it to save different guns, so you just pick which gun you want it on and select that on the scope! The battery lasts a very long time, and it comes with an extra and a charger for the batteries. It’s light weight and all around a great product. 10/10 recommend!

This thing is pretty sweet. The batteries that come with it are the problem. They are just a little too fat for the tube. So they’re very difficult to get back out to recharge. The aftermarket batteries are a tad too small. That’s a simple solution by either stretching the spring or adding a little bit of tinfoil. I was thoroughly impressed with how far away this could see things. I was able to spot deer and elk at over 500 yards. As for animals much closer they’re incredibly detailed in the view screen. I would recommend this for anybody wanting to get into thermals. I do feel like this is not designed for a combat application and probably would not handle excessive use. But we will see.

Not their top of the line but for the price it seems to be a quality product and works for what I wanted it for. Customer service was quick and very good when I called in to get clarification on adjustments for sighting it. Sent me extra info that was not in the manual. THe only thing I could ask more for one is that it had a built in range finder as that is hard to tell on any thermal scope that doesn't have it. Very satisfied after a number of months of intermittent use.

Finally got it , for the price you’ve paid (on sale ) it is a good thermal . Not much can hide from your scope , of course there are limitations , if it’s behind something bigger like a small mound or a thick tree then you won’t be able to see it . Of course at night they can’t see you , but you can work your way around to see them from different angles . The reason I went for this one is because it look like user friendly , it’s not over complicated when it comes to buttons and options/ setting . Battery last pretty long even on mid level setting and usage , and in the cold . I love the lens cover, easy push button to open . This one have way more adjustability when it comes to elevation and windage then some other digital scope that I have . Cons: Even at close range 20-30 yards , it’s hard to tell if it’s a red squirrel or a small rabbit , or a bird (at night) . You need to manually focus at different range to clear up the images when switching between close range and far away 10 yards to 60 yards . Definitely need a range finder built in (of course that’s probably on the higher end models) . Improvements/ suggestions: I know some of these on the higher end have better status then this one , but I do wish it have a day time feature, so that you can zero the scope during the day . Bigger field of view would be nice , of course if you link this to your smart phone that’s an option they have . It would be nice to have a smart phone holder attachment that come with this then . Again at the end of the day , it is a good starter thermal for the price .
