We've had these packets before, but their cost was a bit more than these, so it's safe to say that these are a pretty good deal. I can't detect any differences between the two either. When these burn, they create a rainbow of colors that are hypnotizing to watch. The colors aren't quite as intense as the product pictures depict, but they come pretty close. It's almost impossible to get an accurate, real-life picture of the colors-- believe me, I've tried several times. I guess it's just one of those things that needs to be experienced in person. Depending on the size of the fire, you may want to add more than one. We use one if we're using our portable fire pit, and we use two or three if we're using our main in-ground fire pit that is much bigger. They last a decent amount of time, depending on the size/heat of the fire. They don't go on forever, but they last longer than one would think a little packet could last in a hot fire pit-- I've never timed it, but if I had to guess I'd say a packet lasts about 20-30 minutes? Regardless, they're not something that we use every time we have a fire. We really only use them if there's company over to enjoy it with us. **You'll want to make sure that it's decently dark outside to really get the full effect. We've done it at dusk before so that my younger kids could have a chance to see the colors before they had to be ushered off to bed, and while the colors did show up surprisingly well, the real magic is when it's really dark out. ... show more

They don't last as long as I expected, maybe 30 minutes ish but by then the novelty has worn off and the kids are running around burning off all the sugar from the s'mores. These packs were great. We got them for when we were going camping and we would use them at night. You'll want it to be fairly dark to get the full effect. They lasted for quite a while which was impressive. I've purchased other ones and tried those and they burned out pretty quickly (<15). I am decently satisfied with this. The media could not be loaded. I was skeptical that we'd see great color from these, but they delivered. The video does not do them justice. I used two packages. Be sure that it's fairly dark outside first and that they are tossed into the middle of the fire to get a good reaction. I was very happy that I didn't notice any weird smell - just burning wood. We hung out for ~ 1/2 hour after I took the video, and the color was still going, but I'll need to do another run to see how long they last. It's my understanding this same effect can be achieved using a standard garden hose/copper pipe, and that can be re-used. However, for those that just want the ease of a package to toss in and not have to fish out, these are great. ... show more
