Before buying it I read the reviews saying that the autofocus is noisy, but wasn't that bothered because I thought it wasn't a big issue. But it REALLY IS noisy! I wouldn't recommend it for silent events because it's going to catch the attention of everyone around you! Anyway, the image quality is very good for the price paid, a bit of chromatic aberration in the out of focus parts when the aperture is 1.8, while it disappears as soon as you close a bit the diaphragm.     • Works well for the money .
It's a very good lens. A little soft when at f1.8 but works well. If you are shooting at f1.8, I would use a tripod on mono pod. Lens does make some noise when focusing but not to bad. I got use to it and now I'm use to it. When using the higher f stops, very sharp, even if it's F 2.2 or above

I have used Nikon lenses exclusively for over 20 years. I couldn’t pass up the bargain this lens presented. I am more than pleased with my derision. Sharp photos at every FStop. Extremely sharp above F4. Build feels very solid and auto focus tracks as well as my nikons. No regrets. Probably get a second for the girlfriend so she stops using mine. ... show more

I was hesitant about buying a cheaper lens, but It proved to be very good. Took some flower shots and the photos turned out as good a my Nikon Lens. The focus motor is a little noisy, but is OK. I'm very pleased with it.

Amazing lense for the price! The first photo is this lense and the second is the standard lense that comes on the Nikon D5300. The background blur and depth of field are crazy awesome. The auto focus works pretty well. The only thing you should be aware of is that with an 85mm lense like this one, you have to be pretty far away from your subject to get the shot. So indoor photos are sometimes out of the question. However, that’s not a downside of this lense.. just the focal length in general. Overall, this is a perfect lense for beginner/intermediate photography that won’t break the budget! ... show more

Sometimes it's hit or miss. Sometimes it takes good photos. Other times it takes for ever to focus on subject. Even after adjusting my settings.

Big lens, feels quality in hand, lens hood doesn't feel super cheap, and manual focus ring feels very smooth with a nice long throw. This lens will produce very sharp crisp images with not much vingetting or arbitration with the lens I received. Now time for the only drawback, its loud & hints for auto focus a bit longer than most lenses, if your working with models it can be a little distracting, but in no way a deal breaker. Great AF lens for the price to add to your kit over the $99-$130 similar 85mm manual lenses offered on here & auction sites. ... show more

    • Great addition to my camera bag
The Meike 85mm f1.8 lens has added an additional dimension to my photography. For its price, the lens is sharp and lightweight. Yes, the autofocus can be a little loud but I use my camera’s back button to mitigate most of the noise which by the way is not that distracting. With the wide aperture, the camera gets plenty of light. I’ve used it in a dimly lit room with flash and it rendered colors well. I’m satisfied with its performance and will use it appropriately. I feel it is a good buy especially for hobbiest who don’t want to spend an arm or leg for famous brand name lenses. I will consider Meike for my next lens purchase because the quality of this lens is very good to excellent. ... show more
