  • Good, Budget-Friendly Lens!
Size: 85mm F1.8 EF
I recently picked up this lens for my Canon T6, and so far, I’ve been pretty impressed with it for the price. If you’re on a budget but want a solid 85mm prime, this lens does the job well. That said, there are a few things worth mentioning. Build Quality: For the price, the build is actually pretty good. The lens feels solid and has a nice metal mount. It’s a little on the heavier side, but not too bulky. It has a nice clean design that looks more expensive than it actually is. Autofocus: The autofocus is a bit louder compared to my Canon lenses. It’s not super loud, but you can definitely hear it whirring, especially if you’re recording video or in a quiet space. The good news is it doesn’t affect the performance. It locks onto subjects fairly quickly and doesn’t miss too much. In super low light, it can struggle a bit, which is pretty common for lenses in this price range. Image Quality: This lens really shines in terms of sharpness and the overall look. The f1.8 aperture is awesome for portraits—it creates beautiful background blur and helps isolate your subject. I did notice some chromatic aberration (color fringing), but it’s nothing major as it’s easy to fix in Photoshop or any editing software. Bokeh and Aperture: One of my favorite things about this lens is the f1.8 aperture. It gives you that nice shallow depth of field that’s perfect for portraits. The bokeh is smooth and dreamy, making your subject really pop against a soft, blurred background. Overall, the Meike 85mm f1.8 is a great lens, especially considering the price. The autofocus is a little louder than what you’d get from Canon’s OEM lenses, and there’s some chromatic aberration to deal with, but nothing too bad. The image quality is sharp, the bokeh is gorgeous, and the lens is perfect for portraits. If you’re looking for a solid 85mm lens that won’t break the bank, this one is definitely worth checking out. ... show more

  • Great inexpensive 85mm for EF mounts
Size: 85mm F1.8 Mark II EF
So, for the price, this 85mm is really good. It’s AF works well, it’s a challenge with sports and the quick changes, but it gets sharp photos here in low light. Shot a 5d m4 at 1/1000 iso 2500 f1.8 here. Portrait wise it’s perfect..

  • Fantastic Lens! BEAUTIFUL Bokeh!!!
Size: 85mm F1.8 EF
The media could not be loaded. I am in love with this lens!! I can NOT get over the creamy bokeh effect! Its taken my pictures to the next level and it was so worth the investment! My only notes are the noise level, which doesn't bug me too, too much. Its not terrible- just noticeable. I also wish it had some image stabilization- no image stabilization makes any videos I take insanely shakey and basically unwatchable. Photos however, are unaffected so, yay! I have also noticed a little bit of chromatic aberration BUT after I've edited the photos like I would for any other photos, I dont notice any of the chromatic aberration! So, editing fixes that it seems! I love love LOOOVE this lens! Super budget friendly and TOTALLY WORTH IT! It's been fantastic so far! ... show more

  • Excellent value for the money. Extremely versatile.
Size: 85mm F1.8 EF
The most striking thing about this lens is the amount of lights it pulls in and how well it handles it in various situations. I knew from other reviews that it would make a good portrait lens and that it was built well. What I didn't expect is that when I pushed it to the extremes it just keep giving good results. Tested in different lighting conditions and at astro and macro distances and it performed better than some much more expensive lenses I own. If you look at the example photos I uploaded you can see shots in direct light, shots from shade into bright direct light, a shot of the Milky Way showing the Lagoon Nebula, and a macro of a small caterpillar. The minimum focus distance of the lens is just under 3 feet so I added several Meike extension tubes to get the distance down to a few inches for the macro. Even using 7 extension tubes the lens was able to perform excellently. It was surprising how sharp the lens is even wide open; which is something that is critical for both astro and macro. The only down sides were the loud auto focus, and some blue coma when shooting extremely white objects wide open (a white flower in harsh light). The coma is easily compensated for by shooting to the left or correcting in post. Overall I am very happy with the purchase and can wholeheartedly recommend. ... show more

  • Important thing to know for Mirrorless users
Size: 85mm F1.8 EF
I wanted to really use this but unfortunately It did not work for me, here is what I used and Tried I have a Canon M6 Mark ii with a VILTROX EF-EOS M2 Speed Booster and the regular VILTROX EF-EOS adaptor. Both connected just fine but I could not get rid of the flip the switch and rotate the lens to unlock error. I updated the firmware of the speed booster and the lens and no go. I also have a Canon M50 Mark I and it worked great with either adaptor so I do have some feedback. FYI: I do suspect the M50 Mark ii might not work. The lens like everyone says sounds like what you would imagine a robot leg would sound like when it is walking and taking large strides. It is loud, and in video with auto focus your footage would be useless if you use internal mic or mounted mic. Off camera mic you may even get some of the noise. I took a few pictures and it did come out great and I was sad to have sent it back. It is said there us a port to update firmware and its true. Connect it to your PC and it shows like a thumb drive, you just copy and paste the firmware into it and the lens does the rest, when the file disappears then the update is complete. Drawback? There is only one firmware file available and its from 2018 so far as I can tell updates to the lens for compatibility does not exist at the moment. All in all I wish I could have kept it, it would have made a wonderful portrait and landscape lens (Street photography also). ... show more
