  • A FTM's Best Friend - Portable, insanely quiet, powerful suction, increased my supply.
Style: Original
TLDR: I am an exclusively pumping mama who also has the Willow, Lansinoh Smart Pump, and Medela Pump in Style (old version from a friend). Let me tell you -- I use the Medela Freestyle Flex for all of my pumping sessions. It's the quietest of all, incredibly portable, increased my supply, and customer service is amazing. Reasons why I love this pump - While this pump is a traditional breast pump (it sticks out of your bra while you're pumping, and you have to watch how far you bend over so you don't spill milk out of the tiny holes in the connectors), it is slightly less annoying than other traditional pumps. The updated pumping parts are more intuitive (and therefore, easier) to assemble than previous versions, and the accessory parts are of nice quality. It is *insanely* quiet, and super portable (Yes, you can take it out of the house and pump, say, in your car, but you still can't pump in at like, the grocery store, because it sticks out the front of your special pumping bra and there's a fair amount of your breasts/nipples that is visible). The built-in, rechargeable lithium battery is really powerful, so suction power is great, even disconnected from the wall. It has a traditional USB plug on one end (this is how I charge in my car), and a USB-C plug on the other end. Another bonus - I think it increased my milk supply. The buttons can be a little picky - just make sure you don't stash the button surface pressed up against your body while you're wearing it lol. Customer service is *exceptional* - at least for me in the US, they overnighted me a new one when needed. And while we're on the subject of Medela, let me say that Medela is the brand that most hospitals use, which should tell you something about its quality, durability, and consistency. The pump I used right after I delivered, for example, was this huge machine that was on wheels - I was later told it was the Cadillac of pumps lol. While you definitely don't need to get this massive pump for yourself at home (the price tag on it is like $2-3k), I do recommend the Medela brand in general - they just know what they're doing, and the Freestyle Flex is the most portable pump they have right now. And bonus - you can use a 20% off coupon at Buy Buy Baby. While the Freestyle Flex is more of an "obvious" pump when compared to the Willow (which I also have) because the Flex is a traditional pump that sticks out of your pumping bra, rather than getting tucked inside, it is actually still quite portable, and also *insanely* quiet. It is the quietest of all 4 pumps that I have. It also has a slightly smaller profile than the versions before it, as well as other traditional breast pumps. And by that I mean, it doesn't stick out in front of you as much - don't get me wrong, it still sticks out, which is annoying, but slightly less so. Also, with all breast pumps, you really can't bend over, otherwise the milk will spill out some tiny hole somewhere at the top that I can never really locate lol. The Medela flex lets me bend slightly more forward before it spills. The fact that it doesn't stick out as much, and lets you bend forward slightly more may seem like only slight advantages on paper, but in everyday use, they actually are huge. It means that I am able to bend slightly more forward in order to pick up or put down the baby (saving my back), and I am able to hold her slightly more comfortably & securely because they don't stick out as far. Basically, multitasking is slightly easier - I am able to do laundry a little bit easier, or make a sandwich, or brush my teeth, all because they don't stick out as much to get in my way, and I can bend down a little bit further before I start panicking that I'm going to spill milk all over. The other thing that I really love about the Freestyle Flex is that I swear it increased my supply. I am one of the lucky ones whose body makes enough milk, so I was making about 32oz a day with my other pumps (for reference, my lactation consultant told me that anywhere between 28 - 32 oz a day was a good goal). After 6 weeks with the Flex, my average daily output has increased to 36oz (for my little one, that's an entire extra feeding). Obviously this isn't guaranteed for everyone, but I can only report on my own experience, so there you have it. **UPDATE** After 2 mos, my supply has increased another 2 oz, for a total average of 38 oz per 24-hour period. I've literally changed nothing else, so I kinda feel like it's the pump?? Beyond all that, it holds a charge well - I can go 3 sessions before I feel like I need to plug it back in, and it charges via USB-C. It also can be plugged into the car (if your car as a USB slot, or via an adapter), since it has a regular USB plug on the other end - amazingly portable! The pump itself is also quite small and slim, so it fits in pockets really well, including pants pockets (the back one). I even have a pair of yoga pants that have side pockets down the leg, and it fits in *those* small pockets (Kindred Bravely high-waist yoga pants - highly recommend!). Finally, I'll say that all of the accessory parts for the Medela are the best out of all of the traditional pumps that I've tried. The collection bags are better quality, the tubing, the little bottles for collecting the milk, even the lids - everything is just better designed, and better quality. Honestly, for as much as I rave about the Medela, they really should be paying me lol. The Willow actually is fairly nice quality as well, though the collection bags felt a little chintzy. And sidebar - the best storage bags (for freezing, essentially), in my opinion, are actually the Dr. Brown's bags (link below). And yes, you can mix and match for storage bags only - you'll still have to pump into whatever plastic container or storage bag comes with your pump, but after that, you can dump that milk into any plastic bag for freezing. I've had my Freestyle Flex for over 6 weeks now, and I can tell you that the *only* negative thing I can say about it is that the buttons can be a little overly-sensitive. I occasionally change the settings while the pump is in my zip-up pocket if the buttons accidentally get bumped in just the right way *through* my clothes. Easy fix - just tap another button to undo the accidental settings change and you're good to go again - but still, slightly annoying. Finally (finally!) a word on their customer service - Because of some dumb way I was initially carrying around the pump when I first got it, I thought the buttons weren't responding to my presses, so I acutally ended up retruning the first pump that I got. This process was *seamless*. Medela customer service is EXCELLENT. I contacted them both via online chat and email, and they were super nice and responsive, and sent me a replacement pump next-day-air, so I had a new pump literally the very next day. I also found out that their pumps have a *one year* warranty - all I had to do was take a screen shot of my Amazon invoice and I was good to go. Anyway, I think you can tell a lot about a company based on their customer service, and Medela is the real deal. Not surprising, though - I looked it up, and turns out, Medela was the first company to design & sell electric breast pumps for home-use in the early 90s (before that, electric breast pumps were relegated to the hospital). And home-use pumps - get this - were all manual before roughly 1991 *shudder*. We all need to thank our mamas for having to deal with manual breast milk expression for allllll thooooooose yeaaaarrrrrssss. Ok, that's it! Congrats for making it all the way to the end! And also - YOU GOT THIS, MAMA!!!! ... show more

  • I love it
Style: Breast Pump
I love this for when I am not at home and I need to pump the cups are so easy to use. I have actually rigged my spectra to be able to use these. The cops only have three parts so so easy to take apart and clean the machine has a good battery life You can plug it into your app and even start your pumping through your app and track it even if you don’t do it through the app, it still knows every time you pumped I don’t suggest it as a all day every day pumped but it is great for when you are not at home and on the go The suction is good stimulates let down good and it’s easy to use and set up it’s not as loud as other pumps, but it’s definitely noticeable people will hear you pumping. ... show more

  • Updated: I HATE THIS PUMP
Style: Breast Pump
UPDATED: It has been 6 months and I HATE THIS PUMP! I hate it so much it's 5AM and I am typing this out instead of sleeping bc I want to smash this damn thing into bits. First off you can never get the damn thing on your nipples the exact same time every time. You have to be in the bright lights, lining it up and it never works the first time, constantly relining it up. IF you don't line it up just right then you waste 15-30 minutes of pumping bc there barely a drop in there. BUT I produce so much I know my breasts are full and usually on my Spectra I can pull 10 oz no problem. On this...sometimes 5 oz sometimes 1 oz. it's awful. To solve this problem? Then you have to have a super tight bra to smash them between OR else it isn't powerful enough to stay in place and suction enough milk off. Then the tube that connects to the unit pulls out with the SLIGHTS tension! It will come out and fall the the ground in a heartbeat. This is a huge flaw!!! Where the tube connects to the egg cups is pressed in so TIGHT that you have to pry it out with your fingers. It hurts so much if you have any hand or finger issues OR long nails. They will snap those suckers off. The unit has NO CLIP or anchor to your body other than a stupid ass wrist strap that makes NO SENSE!!! IT IS HANDS FREE!!! WHY PUT A WRIST STRAP ON IT! Then in the last 30 days the touch screen WILL NOT WORK after 10 mins in your pocket. It won't shut off or pause so I have to hold the TINY ASS power button till it shuts off. I am so disappointed in the LARGE AMOUNT of money I spent on this stupid frickin pump. You can't buy replacements parts. You can't buy the little yellow things so DON'T break those or you're out $300!!! Also it is NOT quiet. You set it on something it rattles like a paint mixer. This wouldn't be a deal breaker BUT even in your pocket it is loud. I WOULD LOVE MY MONEY BACK AND THE TIME I SPENT ON THIS DAMN DEVICE So I needed something hands free and powerful. I thought the other brands were lacking and I liked that this brand has a remote instead of looking down at the top of the "egg". So here are a few things are 4 weeks of using: Cons: really hard to take apart and pop back together. they fit well and snap but even my husband wants to chuck them. Next the suction of the machine even at full charge doesn't come close to my spectra 2. I pumped from my S2 after this medela Freestyle and got 5 more ounces. Also they need to offer more egg shell sold separately. cleaning and sanitizing everything takes away from my sleep so much. Also the motor is loud, esp laying it down on a counter. It needs a belt clip as well. where do I stick this vibrating noice maker? I don't always have pockets when I'm pumping and the wrist strap is stupid, it's heavy machine and I need my hands free. Hard to aim the nipple in the hole just right. Also the port holes at the top where you plug in the egg to machine, dude that are so hard to pop out for ppl with hand disabilities. even my husband had a hard time. Pros: it is not too loud when not on a hard surface, in the beginning it pumped a lot better. it now been losing sucking power with with increased levels. It does pull good amount of liquid. It is hands free and hasn't leaked at all Overall: not yet worth 350 personally but I needed one that was hands free and the other models don't work for me because I need the remote feature. I can't vend my neck well. I think if it had longer sucking power it would be great. ... show more

  • Best purchase ever - actually getting good output!
Style: Breast Pump
I did a lot of research on wearable pumps before I ordered this- primarily choosing among Elvie, Willow, and Medela freestyle. I work from home almost 100% and have a lot of conference calls so my old Medela symphony that I rented from the hospital is just no longer a practical option. I am a just enougher so I really concerned changing to wearable pumps will reduce my output (which is mentioned in many online reviews). After using this one for 3weeks now, my output has been staying the same if not more (as when I used Medela symphony!) It is very easy to assemble (only three parts) and easy to clean. To be fair, it is not completely hands free like Elvie - it still has a motor that you have to carry around. But it’s easy enough and doesn’t bother me - I hold it using the bracelet or put it in my pockets. ... show more
