Im an avid crocheter, crafter, and yarn collector. I often find my yarns in thrift stores, and they are rarely wound into proper cakes. Before getting this winder, I was using a thick dowel, about 1.5 inches wide and 16 inches long, and manually winding my yarns into center pull cakes. It took time… lots of time. This yarn winder has cut that time by over 90%! I used to sit at my desk manually winding while streaming a show or movie, and one decent sized skein would take the full length of the show just to wind. Now I can do a full skein into a center pull cake in just minutes!!! Currently, it is clamped to my desk, but since it winds so fast, I've run out of yarn that needs to be wound… for now, that is. I have cleared an area in my craft room for it to be permanently clamped for future uses. I will never wind by hand again! It is made of a lightweight plastic and seems flimsy at first glance. Don't let that fool you, it's not flimsy at all. My desk is 1 inch thick, my crafting table is nearly 3 inches thick… it will easily clamp to both sizes, so it should fit pretty much any table type you have. It's very simple and straightforward to use. Just clamp it on tightly, thread the start of your yarn, and crank the handle. It's that simple. This will give you so much more time to crochet (or knit, or whatever you use your yarn for) and less time spent prepping skeins!

I already owned a yarn winder, but I ordered this one because I spin my own yarn and wanted a second one to make plying easier. It’s helpful to be able to wind multiple singles into cakes and keep everything organized before plying. This winder was easy to set up and works well. I got this Mctoury yarn ball winder for my daughter so she could make yarn cakes for her crocheting projects, and it does exactly what we needed. I'm a novice crafter, and I've recently gotten into crochet. I enjoy the hobby, but I don't enjoy fighting with the yarn balls I've picked up at the craft store. I've heard that a yarn ball winder is just the tool for a job like this, so I picked up this versatile winder to see if it helped with what I have. This little gadget is really easy to use. You simply click off the tube, slide the yarn under, and then click it back into place. It grips the table nicely, and then the winding process is simple and intuitive. I like that this winder can tackle various weights of yarn. I tend to use tube yarn because I'm still a novice, and it works great. The winder itself is a decent size without being too bulky. I think that as long as you are careful with how you're using and storing this winder, it should last a while. All in all, I think this was a great buy!

This yarn winder is of medium quality. It hooks to my table well and is easy to set up. There is a tube you attach and detach to hold the yarn. You just put the end of the yarn under the tube, click it into place and start winding. After you are finished you can pull the yarn off and use that first piece of yarn as your pull skein. Or you can of course use the yarn from the outside, if there are directional issues with the yarn. I used to have knitting machines and when I sold my last one I let my jumbo yarn winder go with it. I really miss that thing. So having a small one like this also back in the day, I know how handy they are and this will fit my craft lifestyle right now just fine.

This yarn winder is simple and easy to use. It feels well made and is sturdy when I attach it to a table top. It turns easily and winds the yarn in a nice pattern that is easy to pull from when it comes time to use it. The yarn slips off the device easily and it is easy to pack up for storage.
