I bought these to replace all of the Koehler seats that came with the Memoirs toilets. These looked much better that the plastic ones Koehler sends with the toilet. They seem to be much better quality , and the chrome brackets are more in keeping with the classic style of the commodes than the all plastic / acrylic ones. I also know from past experience that the Koehler ones will crack , so even if these do not last forever …. I still think they are a solid improvement & worth the money. ( But I’m Optimistic that they will hold up to my boys longer!) ... show more

    • Solid, heavy duty, especially if you have a bidet

I bought a plastic seat when the existing seat broke. But after having installed it on a toilet with a bidet, I realized it wasn't that sturdy and the front flexed up when sat upon. I could have lived with that, but while no hard toilet seat is very comfortable, that one actually hurt to sit on. I lived with it for a couple of weeks and finally thew it out, replacing it with this one. Installation is a bit more complicated. You're supposed to tighten it with a wrench from underneath until the plastic pieces break. I tightened it until it felt like they were going to break and stopped in case I had to loosen it to reset the bidet. The plastic seat was attached with screws fastened from above. The quiet close on this seat works once it is tightened down. I have other wooden enameled toilet seats and they've lasted me for 18 years and I expect them to last another 18 years, so while plastic promises greater durability, the practical difference in my case at least has not been significant. ... show more

def makes my toilet look better moms said it looks expensive now lol but overall happy with the product only con i noticed that i didnt see anyone mention so far is the wood is cracking a bit opening and closing the lid ... its not loud and annoying definitely very faint ... hopefully it doesnt get worse over time but we will see ... also this might of came with my installation i didnt tighten the screws initially because i left my tools in the car lol i hand tighten them and fully tighted them about 24 hours later ... ... show more

Package arrived last night, installed today in about one hour. My model is the 826 CHSL (Benton) in White (000). The slow close hinges work great. The toilet that the seat is installed on is a Glacier Bay from Home Depot. Bowl is round! Folks--- do your measurements if you do not fully understand the differences between an elongated bowl or a round bowl.... As other reviewers have noted, and the install video explains fully, the tightening of the seat/lid assembly to the toilet bowl is done from the bottom side. This presents some logistical issues depending on the amount of room you have to gain clear access to the bolts. Bemis/Mayfair explains that a 1/2" socket or wrench will work. Also, 13mm is put in parentheses. I highly recommend the 13mm, which technically is just a bit larger, Google says .511811024 inches while 1/2" would of course be only .50 Once I inserted the full/all thread bolts, so to speak (they have no head at either end), the seat/lid was somewhere between full closed and open. It was necessary to hold the seat/lid assembly at an angle to have it be true vertical within the mounting holes of the toilet bowl. Not a big deal, but a helper set of hands may be useful. I needed the straight up and down to properly thread the special nuts that Bemis supplies. An inner nut with attached washer break free from one another as you thread them onto the 'all thread' bolt. You'll see how it all comes together, nice and tight once you progress forward. I would recommend a 13mm ratcheting wrench for the long attaching nut(s). Spacing for me below the lip of the bowl was tight. It was somewhat difficult to get a 13mm 'deep' socket to line up vertically. Do as much hand tightening as possible before any tools. Kudos to Bemis/Mayfair for their double headed nut design, in which the exterior end breaks off when you have reached proper torque on the long nut assembly. This pulls the hinge down from the top nice and flush with the bowl mounting surface, and seats that inner washer and nut into the bowl's mounting hole. I then tightened perhaps 1/10th of a turn more with the longer/taller interior nut once the short/exterior one had snapped off-as designed. The 1/2" deep socket would indeed fit-but it is quite tight and dealing with porcelain you want to avoid a lot of potential excess stress or movement with your tools down there. Baby strokes with any wrench or socket, you sure would not want to chip or break anything of the toilet itself! All in all it seems to be a quality made unit. Yes, it does take perhaps 15 seconds for the entire seat and lid to reach full closure. Not a big deal to me. I like that it is real wood, and sturdy for those times I have to climb up on it (150lb male) to reach a cabinet's upper shelving. Will update once it passes the test of time.... ... show more
