  • Great bed, sturdy and attractive
Size: Full Color: Grey Pattern Name: Bed
My son wanted a gray bed and nightstand for his next step up from a twin. We looked at dozens of different beds, including several at the pricier home stores (PB, CB, WE, etc). His room is not that large so this is perfect in looking stylish without overtaking the space. My specific requirements for the bed: 1) must have single piece of wood for the side rails - it's a way to cheapen the product and I don't like the look of the extra support legs under the bed; 2) must be good construction; and 3) come with enough slats to support the bed. This bed met those requirements and then some. It has a metal beam that attaches to the head/foot boards so it can accommodate a trundle, which we did not purchase. We also purchased the matching nightstand and are pleased with the construction, size and price. Amazon did a great job delivering it without a scratch. One suggestion would be to add some wood glue to the vertical slats when you assemble the headboard. It's fine without it, but in hindsight I would have gone the small extra step. ... show more

  • A bit wobbly
Size: Twin/Full Color: White Pattern Name: Bed
Overall bed was very easy to assemble. I would recommend laying everything out first so you know what you have. I built the bed start to finish in 3 hours. Add two hours for trip to Lowes and sawing planks. You will need to add 6 1x4 slats to top and bottom bed if not using box spring or board. Once bed assembled it was not as sturdy as expected but not worried it will fall apart. I even retightened all bolts. ... show more

  • Just OK - it's nice-looking, but thought it would be sturdier for the money - 3.5 stars
Size: Twin/Full Color: Espresso Pattern Name: Bed
Likes: has a metal support for top and bottom to hold weight on each bunk, has a high clearance under bottom bunk, can sit on lower bed and not hit head (higher clearance between bunks), nice color, ladder is tucked into design, spacious enough to make beds without a struggle Dislikes: awfully "wobbly" for the expense - thought, with the metal bar, that I would be getting something that felt sturdier than our last model, which was a cheaper bunk bed. This is still wobbly and the top bar supporting the top bunk became "loose" within a couple weeks, just like our old one. Assembly instructions are OK but not great. More importantly, you need to plan in advance how the top-bunk slats will be placed in comparison to the top bar that links up with the ladder, because the slats get in the way of the bar sliding down. We had to re-do all of our slats because the layout didn't work (when following instructions) and we had part of a slat in the way - not fun. Finally, delivery was embarrassing. It was clearly too heavy for the delivery guy and he needed to retrieve us to help carry it in. He made it clear that this package was misleading in weight and should not have been on his truck. We don't have a scale, but it was heavy enough that two adult men struggled to bring it from the truck to the door. I didn't particularly like irritating the delivery guy - whether or not he was in the "right" with the weight being over the restrictions imposed for shipping UPS. Overall: Though this is a nice looking piece of furniture (for now - I expect it not to wear very well over time), I don't think I would buy this again, knowing what I know. I feel like I could have/should have used the money towards something a little less wobbly. We had envisioned the stability that a friend's bunk has, which doesn't shake as a kid climbs up. This one, though parts are in place and tightened, just has too cheap a "feel" for the cost. If I'd spent $300 on it, I'd figure I got what I paid for. At nearly twice the cost, it's not worth the money. Lesson learned. ... show more

  • Very nice looking and great value, with IMPORTANT but non-fatal flaws
Size: Full/Full Color: Espresso Pattern Name: Bed
My review addresses the quality of construction, and how to remedy the flaws. I would not install this in a rental property; get a metal frame bunk bed instead. OK at home or a vacation home. This is made from New Zealand pine. A good solid wood with few cosmetic flaws. The wood is brittle, which contributes to the structural failures described by reviewers. Very nice finish but with some odor that takes a few weeks to dissipate. It is NOT toxic, as claimed by some reviewers. I purchased the full over full, with twin trundle. First, the assembly takes a good amount of time, 6-8 hours minimum to do a good job, without the modifications described below. Second, the assembled bunks were very solid without any play (unlike other reviewers). You MUST fully and firmly screw in the hardware to achieve the rigidity. The head of the hex head screws sits below the level of wood. Some fasteners required quite a bit of torque to fully engage, ultimately twisting the metal of the supplied hex-wrench. Be meticulous, but be sure to not over-tighten. The trundle construction quality is crap. Far weaker construction with inferior doweled joints in comparison to the bunk. Now about the flaws. Reviewers describe 2 major failure points: 1. Fracture of the slats under the mattress. 2. Fracture of the longitudinal frame rail across the lower bunk. Here is how I addressed these failure points: 1. I added 6 1x4 tight knot pine slats between the supplied slats. Add these before screwing down the supplied slats. I think 1x3 would be fine or preferable, but my lumber yard doesn't stock this dimension. I stapled the slats to the strap interconnecting the supplied straps, but did not screw them to the side rails to allow a bit of flexion. This looks and feels REALLY solid. 2. I added to the longitudinal front side frame rail a zinc plated steel flat plate 1" wide, 1/8" thick, 72" long purchased at Lowes. I didn't add this to the back side rail since the weight causing the failure will be on the front side. Be sure to leave a gap between the slats and the frame rail to accommodate insertion of the flat plate. Attach to the side rails with 12 round head wood screws, #10, 3/4" long. Drill 7/32" holes in the steel flat plate, 1/8 " in the wood rail. Prior to attaching the flat plate, the side rail had a subtle but real deflection with my weight; I can understand why this would fail. After attachment of the flat plate, I could detect zero deflection, solid as a rock. 3. The trundle is hopeless. I glued the dowels and added slats to the mattress support. If it lasts a year I'll be thrilled. ... show more

  • Great bed! Great price
Size: Full Color: Espresso Pattern Name: Bed
We bought this bed for my 4 year old son. It is fairly easy to put together. You will need at least 2 sets of hands. All parts were included and labeled. Directions were good. The bed is sturdy. He has been in it for about a week now and he loves it.
