  • 2nd time was the charm
The first unit i bought made an annoying rapid ticking sound while operating. The sound very gradually eased over 5 hours but was still noticeable. I ordered a second unit to try, to see if it also made the noise. The second unit is quiet, with just a hum from the fan. I contacted the seller, who responded quickly, suggesting that if the shelves were on straight (they were), then there was a defect. Not sure if I'm supposed to return it through Amazon or directly to them; waiting for more info. The new unit is great. Lots of space, quiet, easy to use. I particularly like that I can control the temp (5 degree increments) and the duration of hours of drying. So far, I'm happy with the replacement unit. UPDATE Dec 27, 2018. I am so happy I bought this unit! It seems to function perfectly and I've been making all sorts of dog treats almost every day. I've made butternut squash (both raw and pre-steamed for 5 mins before drying), sweet potatoes (raw), chicken strips (raw), and canned green beans. The Lab likes it all, but the Golden mix wants his squash steamed, tho the chicken is great. I'm freezing the chicken till the day I use it (a couple strips each day for the Golden). I peel the squash with a veggie peeler, quarter it, scoop out the seeds, slice into 1/4 in x 2 in chunks. Dump the whole batch into a big steamer and steam for 5 mins. That seems to be just enough to taste cooked (releases sugars, maybe?), then it gets thoroughly dried. I also did a batch, unsteamed, that the Lab likes just fine. This has already saved me its price in bags of good-quality dog treats. A little more work than clicking "Add to cart", but over time, the $$ savings will be significant. And my camping/backpacking hubby may try it for his meals on the trail, too! ... show more

  • FDM Filiment warmer/dryer
So this isn't exactly manufacturer's specifications, but I bought this unit to dry and warm my FDM printer's PLA/ABS/TPU filament. I ended up cutting out the middles of the trays and it perfectly fits a full-sized spool. Temperatures are high enough that it seems to work perfectly. I typically put the filament in an hour or two before I plan to print with it and it seems to work fantastic, reducing the possibility of brittle filament which simply breaks when the extruder reverses (or at extreme bends). For the price, this thing is fantastic (IMO) for this use. ... show more

  • Temperature setting is inaccurate
I bought this dehydrator to make jerky and other dehydrated goodies. While this thing works fine, the temperature is not accurate. When set to the highest temperature of 160, I checked the temp after running it for a couple hours only to find that the max temp was 141. This makes dehydrating anything unpredictable. If you're looking to use this to make any kind of jerky, this will not meet your needs. Probably works fine with veggies/fruits but haven't tried yet. Already looking to invest in a different dehydrator. ... show more

  • Customer Service---there is none.
Some reviews have complained that they did not receive a “care instructions & recipe booklet” <-- yes, that’s what it’s called. Don’t worry, you haven’t missed anything. The book has 4 pages. The first 2 pages tell how to plug it in without killing yourself and warnings about everything else. The last 2 pages give approximate temperature and time for drying various fruits, vegetables, and meat. For almost all food to be dehydrated the suggested time is listed as between 5 and 25 hours. So no help there. There are NO recipe’s at all, just a list of fruits and meats with a suggested temperature and a time range that lets you choose whatever you think. Also there are no instructions on how to turn it on, etc. No diagram of the unit. It has 4 buttons, on/off, +, - , and set, yet the instructions say to “set the knob to the appropriate temperature.” There is no knob. However you can set the time along with the temperature and it shuts off at the end of that time. It really isn’t that difficult to set, but you have to figure out how to do that yourself, the instructions don’t tell you how. I’m not sure where the temperature is taken, but I set it on 160º for jerky and stuck the meat thermometer inside the lid and only got up to 145 or 150 after an hour. However, it did make good jerky in much less time than their book suggested, so I don’t think that is a problem. There are 5 trays, I received two trays with a plug in the center. The others have a hole in the center for the air to flow through. The ones with no hole, just a plug, are for the top tray. If you use both trays without the air hole, the tray above will not seat all the way, nor will the air circulate properly, as it is slightly taller than the others. Therefore, I can only use 4 trays at one time. As I say the two with the plugs can only be used on the top. I have emailed three different support addresses to see if I could get another regular tray but have not received an answer. I am downgrading my rating because of the extra tray that can’t be used, the lack of response when I wrote them about the tray, and the absence of instructions and recipes in the “Care instructions & recipe booklet”. But mostly for the lack of customer service. Update I am dropping the rating to one star. I have written to three different addresses concerning the trays and didn't even get a response from any of them. Even a "nothing we can do for you" would be better than not responding at all. Very poor customer service. ... show more

  • great food dehydrator
Very easy to set and is a good size. It is faster than I had anticipated and so far I have used it to dry my garden herbs. I would recommend to gardener's and anyone wanting to put up dried food, for winter. Next in line, tomatoes and onions.

  • Great Dehydrator with out the expensive price tag
Used several times already to make Jerky, and it is fantastic. Being able to set a temp and a dry time is super useful, and it helps with not having to worry about over drying the food or overheating the unit. Only draw back is that it does not come with a fruit roll up sheet, but I will grab one later. 5/5 would buy again. ... show more
