I think it is TSA compliant, have not taken it anywhere but home. It is small. maybe enough for a cellphone and some cash. I have been able to fit 400 dollars in one very easily. The attached cable is a think bike lock wire sort of affair. a pair of bolt cutters and it's game over. But for routine security, perfect. You wrap it around a sturdy base like a radiator or bathroom pipe and all is well. Changing the 4 digit code is fairly easy with just a screw driver. Keep in mind though nit only opens to like a 45 degree angle so do not try to force it all the way back. It's hard plastic, not metals and you will break it. The code reels are little rotary thumb disc with the number visible but not at low light. If you have chubby thumbs use your index fingers to spin it to the right digit. Perfect for hotel stays or for when your Uncle comes to visit. You know the one, seen only during funerals and holidays with large food and alcohol events. It is slim, maybe a cell phone or passport wide but plenty roomy for cash, foreign and domestic. over all not bad a the price is right. This safe isn’t going to operate as though it were Fort Knox. I suppose it could be accessed after several good strikes with a hammer, but for me it’s going to do what I need it to do, a deterrent. I have medication and a handgun that I need to make sure my young and vulnerable grandchildren can’t accidentally access. This safe protects them for a very modest fee. The attached security cable can easily be secured to any fence, chair, table, or pole. The cable can also be used to carry the safe. It would take bolt cutters to break the strong cable. The safe arrives with the preset factory combination of 0000. The combination was easy to reset, especially if you read the simple instructions before hand. The only drawback that I’ve discovered is the combination dial. I found it difficult to move the dials and broke a fingernail. Minus this small glitch, I’m perfectly happy with my purchase. ... show more

I own two of these because I loved my first one so much that I needed one for my mom’s house too. They are super easy to use and figure out while setting it up, and the perfect size!!! super easy to bring around or keep hidden somewhere in a room. These things don’t budge if you don’t put in the exact code!! Great quality, my only wish is it would be nice if the lid opened a little more than it does because it doesn’t open all the way up, it stops before even reaching a 90° angle. ... show more

Won’t be buying again or recommending to others. It’s the right size for small valuables or money while on vacation but once you set the combination to open, to scramble the numbers once finished is almost impossible. They get stuck on the combination and nearly impossible to reset to 0000. I’ve had this less than a week and the paint on my numbers are already wearing. By 6 months I don’t think I’ll even be able to see the numbers. ... show more

    • OK Price, But Very Small & Made of Plastic

MasterLock calls this a "Portable Safe" in the ad title, but that's stretching it a bit. It's more like a portable locked box than a safe, by any stretch of the imagination. I like its looks & parts of its design, but I don't like the fact that it's made of plastic (polycarbonate?). Although the shell is hard, it's not likely to withstand a hammer, drill, or screwdriver the way that metal would. The box has a rubber-like covering over the four dial combination lock, to "increase weather resistance & conceal the dials from view", but after opening & closing this cover twice, it no longer closes firmly, leaving one side of it partially open (the top side). So much for "increasing weather resistance & conceal the dials from view". All four of the dials on the lock are difficult to roll to the combination & off the combination; they resist movement too much, & are made of plastic without a grip, or much of a detent. Other such locks are rubberized or textured for a better grip, or have deeper detents for a place to put a fingernail. I expected it to be small, but it's actual interior dimensions are smaller than I thought they would be. For example, to give you an idea of the size, you can fit only two boxes of standard cigarettes inside in any formation, & that's pretty small. It might be useful for jewelry, money, an important folded up piece of paper, or other small mementoes, but due to the ease of breaking it open & walking away with this, I wouldn't trust it for anything of real value. MasterLock's packaging leaves something to be desired. It comes in a neat looking, strudy box, with a fold open lid, like a book cover. When you open the lid, one side of this box is visible (the side with the metal design on it). After that, as far as I could tell, you have to rip the box open, not very elegant. A simple opening would be more appropriate. Then, under the lock box, the one-sheet, folded manual is taped to the inside of the box. To remove the tape from the manual (so I could unfold it), the entire front page of the manual was ripped off by the tape. A thoughtless design on the part of MasterLock. For the price, this is not a bad deal, if you have a use for it. It would seem to make a good choice for teaching a child about combination locks, security, & protecting their valuables. For adult usage, I have a hard time figuring out what it could effectively be used for, considering the very small interior & the plastic construction. If it were found in a car, attached underneath a car seat, a thief might do more damage to the car (trying to dislodge the box) than it would be worth to you, in terms of protecting what is inside the box. I also bought the The Club LB200 Personal Vault Security Lock Box, which I've found to cost only a few dollars more, but it is of much better construction & is a larger size, without being too large. The Club LB200 is a much better buy than is this MasterLock box. ... show more
