Description

The Master Lock Magnum M176XDLH Solid Body Padlock features a 2in (51mm) wide zinc die-cast body for strength and reliability. The 3/8in (10mm) diameter octagonal shackle is 2in (51mm) long and made of Tough-Cut boron-carbide, 50% harder than hardened steel, offering maximum resistance to cutting and sawing. The roller pin cylinder provides maximum pick and pry resistance. The dial cover offers superior weather protection, and reinforced body bumper protects against scratches. The lock includes set your own combination and the added convenience of a back up key.

First of all, this is a heavy-duty padlock. If you hit someone over the head in self defense, it would leave a mark. Instructions on setting the combination were easy to follow. The ONLY reason this did not get a 5-star rating is the way this is packaged.     • Tough weatherproof lock but operation initially unintuitive
Not going to repeat the good features already described in other reviews, but will mention the combination locking/ unlocking design. To unlock, you not only need to 1) rotate the 4 wheels to the proper code number positions but you must also 2) push down on the shackle (the U-bar) to release the lock. It does not simply "self-release." Relocking is not achieved by simply pushing down on the released shackle- instead, you must first flip the combination wheels to non-coded positions, and then depress the shackle to relock. This is logical- but perhaps not initially intuitive for those unfamiliar with this design. I like that the lock can also be opened with the supplied key, and the code can be easily reset with the included rest key. ... show more

    • Rugged; Combo Impossible to See At Night
I was very, very impressed with these locks. By far the most rugged locks (of the hundred) I have ever used. Large shank makes it useful in many applications. BUT - I find it 100% impossible to open or lock at night using a cell phone light. The light reflects off the beautifully polished dials and base and looks like diamonds. But I can't even tell there is any writing at all on the dials, let alone make out the digits. The beauty of the shiny surface and cut facets of the dials actually makes it impossible to use except in daylight. Too bad. I will not buy again. ... show more

    • Good lock. Shackle may be too big.
Bought this for my wooden fence gate. The shackle diameter is too big for the hole it needs to go in. Needed 5/16" instead of 3/8". Long shackle makes it a little difficult to move around and install on the gate mechanism. Otherwise a nice quality lock.

    • fits where a long-shackle did not fit
My wife prefers a key, I prefer a combination so this fits our bill. Our previous lock the combination rusted after a few years and it didnot fit our fence well. This one fits better. To avoid rust, I have put adhesive tape all around the lock because we rarely do go in that gate.

Of course any lock can be defeated, but this should keep the amateurs at bay. Appears to be a good, solid lock. The setup was easy (not sure why some had issues). It easily fits the heavy duty cable I’m using. Good bang for the buck.
