The product feels robust enough to give anybody a false sense of security, which is enough. Changing the combination is straight forward , and there's less worry that security is going to thrash your luggage by clipping the pull tabs because they have standardized key to bypass the lock. I don't think it needs to be limited to just travel luggage application, and can be used for everyday things like, walking on the street with a backpack, purse, or gym locker.
