Description

MartinLogan's Dynamo 800X powered subwoofer features a 600-watt peak-power amplifier, 10-inch audiophile grade woofer, extensive input options, optional wireless connectivity, control via a Bluetooth app, Anthem Room Correction (ARC), and user-configurable front-firing or down-firing design. Dramatic bass detail and attack, superb extension, and room-shaking output ensure a compelling music and home theater experience. Left And Right Two-Channel Inputs With LFE Dynamo 800X features left and right input via RCA line level as well as speaker level connections. It also adds a discrete LFE RCA line level input. Optional SWT-X Wireless Input MartinLogan’s new SWT-X Wireless Subwoofer System (sold separately) incorporates the latest in wireless audio transmission technology, including 2.4GHz dynamic frequency selection, forward error correction, and a range up to 50 feet. Easy to install in the subwoofer, the SWT-X receiver requires no external power source or audio connections. Powerful, High-Excursion, Low-Turbulence, Inverted Surround Woofers The latest generation of MartinLogan Dynamo subwoofers feature advanced-design woofers with inverted surrounds and powerful magnet, motor, and suspension designs. In front-fire mode the unique inverted surround design maximizes excursion clearance behind the grill cover. When positioned in a down-firing configuration, the inverted surround significantly reduces airflow related turbulence for an articulate and detailed low-frequency experience. Built-In ETC (Energy Transfer Coupler) Spikes Dynamo 800X comes with custom ETC spikes which can be used to enhance stability on thick carpets, or create tighter coupling between subwoofer and floor to enhance overall sound quality. The built-in spikes are conveniently and discretely hidden underneath the rubber feet. Uses a Bluetooth connection to simplify setup of Dynamo 800X. App based controls include volume level, low-pass filter, phase, 20–30Hz level, three preset listening modes, and control of Anthem Room Correction. A tone sweep feature assists users in locating areas in listening rooms where rattles or resonances may occur. A press of a button allows listeners to initiate a tone sweep from 20–120Hz. If a rattle or resonance occurs in the room any frequency can be held, allowing the listener to investigate and identify the source of the unwanted noise. Anthem Room Correction (ARC) Mobile App Measures low-frequency sound output in a room and compares it to optimal response curves that account for spatial anomalies. The advanced algorithms of Anthem Room Correction effectively remove anomalies, leaving only the ideal standard— realistically blended, natural-sounding bass. Dynamo 800X utilizes a Bluetooth connection with a smartphone or USB connection with a PC to run Anthem Room Correction. Dynamo subwoofer class-D amplifiers operate with extremely low levels of distortion and deliver dynamic impact with plenty of overhead. Low- noise, high-power switching power supplies produce clean power efficiently in a small space and effortlessly provide tremendous levels of current. Both feature high-quality MOSFET transistors, transformers, noise-suppression networks, and control circuitry. The switching power supply combined with reliable class-D technology means there’s virtually no energy lost in the subwoofer system. Inverse Mathematical Equalization (IME) Filter The IME filter used in the Dynamo subwoofers is derived from the inverse of the unfiltered driver response. Precision IME filtering yields extremely accurate low-frequency response—superior to that provided by the simple second-order high-Q filters typically found in subwoofers in this price range. Although ports, when correctly designed, are a convenient and cost-effective way of increasing low-frequency output, when used in small cabinets their reliance on resonant energy can impair bass quality. Dynamo 800X is a compact, sealed subwoofer system that minimizes transient-blurring group delay while maintaining smooth, consistent response, regardless of music or movie source material. The cabinet is constructed from the finest composite material for acoustic integrity. Inside, critically placed structural cross-bracing provides a stable foundation for the woofer, while the added rigidity keeps cabinet-induced resonances and non-linearities to inaudible levels.

  • holy smokes!
Update: Bought a second 800x to go with a set of ML motion SLMs for a separate room. That's how good it has been. Don't particularly care for the appearance or texture of the thing but, wow. Over the years I've probably owned 50 subs of various quality and application - none Martin Logan. Absolutely None of them have sounded this good. Period. 800x -10" @ 300w is amazing.. I can't imagine what the 15" version feels like. Connected from A90K OLED HDMI via eARC to a Marantz M1 then via the LFE / Sub OUT with Motion 4i's set at 80hz & 40hz. This is a serious 2.1 system that will physically startle you. No kidding. What's more: the sub functions perfectly - on/off staying connected, the app works.. etc. ... show more

  • Bluetooth to phone for one time calibration and live adjustment of sub settings
I have magnapan speakers, subwoofer must be fast to coordinate with the magnapans. Tryed Jl’s they were really good a close second but they didn’t have the app for adjusting or either the calibration component or live adjustment of 20 to 30 Hz or level. For me this was a dealbreaker I continuously adjust the sub because music content varies substantially recordings of music type and level. Bottom frequencies annoy me without having the level of adjustment with the Martin Logan allows. Do you need to get at least the 600 800 or 1000 to utilize the anthem arc calibration system. The downloads it directly to your Martin Logan subwoofer once has completed it, Maps the best bass E Q, without any standing waves. ... show more

  • Excellent Quality. Superior Sound
This is my third Martan-Logan subwoofer. The other two are still working fine. Have 3 separate rooms with speakers from a mulitzone amp. The first one is 20 years old still works fine.

  • Consider another sub first
Disconnects every two days (red light starts blinking) and the sound isn’t that impressive. Fingerprints are extremely noticeable and hard to get off

  • On the fence/mixed thoughts
For its size, it's quite powerful. Unfortunately, sound quality is a very subjective thing. I personally think it sounds very good in terms of quality. I did have to put 1/2" foam under the feet. At higher than normal bass levels, it will shake itself so violently, that it rattles itself. Not that there's anything loose inside, just that the vibrations are so strong, the unit is moving up and down rapidly. While the unit is heavy for its size, it's not heavy enough to keep it from doing this. That being said, it's not particularly loud, although as loud as it does get, there's no discernable distortion. I'm comparing it to my car audio 12" sub. While I personally think the 12 is louder, for its size, this 10" is very capable. With that, bass is meant to complement mids and highs, not overwhelm them. Also subjective to the listener. I did use the app to adjust it. While there was a difference, I'm not sure if it was better per say. It wasn't worse, so there's that. I do think it's a bit overpriced for what it is. I've just recently discovered Martinloagn/Paradigm. If their quality stands for 10 years, I'll be happy. Again, sound quality is subjective regardless of what instrument measurements report. A $100 sub could sound better than this sub to anyone, however, that $100 sub could break in a year. I'd rather spend a little more than I'm willing, to get better longevity. Disclosure, I bought this from bestbuy, to rule out any possible mishaps with handling. I'm hoping Martinloagn isn't like Leica/Hasselblad/PhaseOne (overpriced cameras). With a pair of Neolith speakers at $100,000. I'm thinking they might be. ... show more
