Description

The Zeus jacket is serious hardware for city life in the winter. Amazingly lightweight down proof fabric is stuffed with the finest quality 700 fill power down. A wind flap is tucked behind the front zipper to suppress drafts. Packs away into its own pocket for easy storage or travel! This warm, snazzy- looking down jacket, from popular outdoor outfitter Marmot, brings the company's all-mountain warmth to wintry city streets. Available in a variety of style-conscious colors, the jacket is made of surprisingly lightweight, "down-proof" fabric that won't let precious warmth-boosting feathers escape. With a certified minimum 800 fill power of Marmot's renowned, top-quality down, the Zeus additionally features a wind flap tucked behind the front zipper to seal out the wind-driven cold, and the entire jacket packs down into its own stow pocket for easy packing (and a handy travel or camp pillow). Features Durable, lightweight fabric prevents down feathers from escaping 800 fill power goose down for maximum warmth; certified/guaranteed minimum fill Zippered hand pockets Entire jacket packs into pocket Wind flap behind front zipper protects against drafts Elastic draw cord hem for adjustability in serious weather Angel-Wing Movement allows full range of motion without jacket riding up Marmot Down Marmot often says that "down is in our DNA." The company was founded in 1974 as a manufacturer and seller of premium down jackets, vests, and sleeping bags, and continues to use fine quality goose down for its insulated outdoor products. Mountaineers and outdoor enthusiasts the world over rely on Marmot down gear for warmth, comfort, and sometimes survival. Down quality is determined by fill power and durability, which is dependent upon the age and maturity of the bird and the processing of the down. The best down comes from larger, more mature birds and goose down is generally better than duck down. More mature goose down has larger filament clusters than less mature goose down and these clusters, when grouped, provide many more trapped air pockets and therefore provide better insulation. To maximize the effectiveness of the down clusters, proper processing of the down -- sorting, washing, and drying -- is required to open them up. Higher fill power means higher loft, better insulation, lighter weight, and greater durability. Marmot tests all of its down for content, cleanliness, species, and fill power, guaranteeing minimum fill power for all down clothing and sleeping bags. Lifetime Warranty Marmot products include a limited lifetime manufacturer's warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. About Marmot In April 1971, University of California Santa Cruz students Eric Reynolds and Dave Huntley were in Alaska on the Juneau ice fields for a Glaciology school project. This was where the idea of Marmot, originally a collegiate climbing club, began. Reynolds and Huntley soon began making prototypes of down products such as vests and sleeping bags in their dorm room in Santa Cruz. By the spring of 1973, Reynolds and Huntley partnered with fellow climber Tom Boyce to open a modest rental and retail location, named Marmot Mountain Works, in a 100-year-old building in Grand Junction, Colorado. Their first large order was for 108, as the producer called them, ""very puffy jackets"" for the movie The Eiger Sanction, with Clint Eastwood, which helped make down outerwear fashionable. In 1976, Marmot was one of the first companies to recognize the value of a new technology being developed by W.L. Gore & Associates. Marmot was soon producing waterproof Gore-Tex sleeping bags, with Reynolds and Huntley testing early prototypes by sleeping in meat lockers and under fire sprinklers, and later introduced the waterproof/breathable fabric into nearly all Marmot products. From humble beginnings, Marmot and its product line have grown over the years, and today the company is headquartered in Rohnert Park, California, with offices all over the world and distribution in more than 60 countries.

  • Defective
I don't know if it is luck as to whether you get the proper jacket or not. I already had MANY Marmot coats (and other top brands), including this one in a different size. Every one was top quality. This one was clearly defective. Many baffles had little or no down. It was worthless in serving its purpose. However, I returned it to Marmot which fully guarantees their products. Marmot also found it to be defective and is sending me a new one next week. ... I gave it one star for this specific product as received. But it is a five star if you get the non-defective product. FOLLOW UP: The replacement sent to me from Marmot had the same problem. Almost no down in the lower baffles on the back. The other version of this (#7202) is excellent as are all my other marmot products. ... show more

  • Don't Bother
I have been wearing this coat for the a little over half a year and I have noticed many issues CONS: Very fragile outer fabric. I already notice many holes around the zipper and arm bands, small feathers frequently poke out. The fabric feels extremely fragile, I am certain anyone could rip it with their bare hands. - The coat isn't even that warm. I wear it in Vancouver where it rarely gets below 0 degrees celcius. I am still uncomfortable with 3 under layers. - Not water proof. It used to bead water the first couple months, but the liner has worn off and it is now a sponge. It was also begun to smell pretty bad because of it. - Unattractive. Being 6'1" and 160 pounds, the small is not slim enough neither is it long enough, it looks bulgy. PROS: Very light and portable. Hand warming pockets are nice, simple design. There are plenty of cheaper coats which offer more warmth, durability, and cosmetic appeal. Would not buy again. ... show more

I got this jacket to skiing and I like it. My biggest problem is that every time you try and use the zipper on the pockets, the fabric gets caught in the teeth. Especially is you are wearing gloves it is a giant pain in the ass. The sleeves are really big (wide) compared to the rest of the coat too. If it is wasn't for the zipper, I would give it 4 stars - it is a good coat basically. ... show more

  • Lightweight Comfort
Have worn this a few times now - it is extremely comfortable - weighing less than a pound, I hardly notice it at all. I'm 5'10"/ 175lbs, and the medium was perfect, not baggy, sleeves long enough for my longish arms. The temps I've worn it in have been high 30's, with only a light flannel shirt as a base, and without wind it did a great job keeping me warm. With a light wind (say 5-7 mph) I could feel the wind slightly - not enough to make me cold, but enough to see that if the wind picked up much I would definitely need to wear an outer wind jacket. And with light weight comes sacrifices: the jacket's outer material is fairly thin - if you plan on hiking in an area where there are thorny/spiky plants I would strongly advise wearing a tougher outer shell over the top. Also the zippers appear to be plastic (though they work fine so far) and there is an inner flap behind the main zipper but not in front of it, so no buttons/snaps or any good way to hold it together should the zipper fail. But these are concessions most lightweight down "sweaters" make. Incidentally, if you are torn between the "Marmot Zeus" and the "Patagonia Down Sweater" I compared them side by side, because I was curious how the Patagonia could have 800 fill instead of the Zeus 700 fill, and still manage to weigh an ounce less than the Zeus. Seen side by side the answer is simple, the Patagonia is just a bit thinner. Otherwise, in quality and looks they appeared almost identical. I actually preferred the Zeus, especially for less $$. I would imagine there may be some longevity issues down the line, due to the thin material and plastic zippers, and I can't speak to that yet, but it looks well made enough that with the proper care it should last quite a while. ... show more

  • Light weight and warm
The only reason I am writing this is to help people who have read the negative reviews. First this is a very nice light weight down jacket personally I love it. Please note this is not a jacket for abuse like a Carhardt work jacket or even walking thru briar patches. For what it is its great and you cannot get an armored car to perform like sports car. This jacket is super light but for everyday normal use is fine for me but Im not a mechanic or anything. I also own the matching vest which I love to. Dont pay attention to idiots who write reviews of an ultralight down jacket to perform like a hardshell. Probably the same guy who uses his lawn mower as a hedge trimmer.:) ... show more

  • over priced and over rated
This jacket rips very very easily and is not that warm compared to other down jackets I have owned. I cannot reccommend this jacket. You can buy a warmer more durable jacket for much less. I feel ripped off and wish I had not bought it.
