This solar panel is well made, surprisingly versatile and almost matches its listed specifications. The listing indicates it weighs 1.59 Pounds and is IP65 rated. The instruction sheet says it weigh 2.18 Pounds, does not mention IP65 waterproofing and warns that the connectors are not waterproof. I suspect the panel would meet IP65 with the attached rubber plugs in place to protect the connectors but the panel cannot be used that way. In my testing, I could only get 25W out of the panel when properly oriented toward the sun but I tested it in New Hampshire in March so I can believe it is capable of generating 30W under ideal conditions somewhere on Earth. Although the maximum output voltage from the USB output is only 12V, I was pleasantly surprised that the two USB outputs can be used simultaneously in different fast charging modes. Many multi output USB chargers switch to 5V only output when all their ports are used. Although the panel comes with an assortment of 10 plugs to adapt the included cable to other devices, these should be used with caution because the panel's output voltage is higher than what most electronic devices, other than laptop computers, were designed to take. The peak output voltage is roughly 20.5V and it claims to output 30W at 16.5V and 1.81A. Had they warned about this and more accurately described the panel in the listing, I would have given this 5 stars.

The Marbero 30W Portable Solar Panel is EVERYTHING it claims to be and MORE. Earlier in the year I started my search for an affordable Solar PV unit that was foldable, rugged, powerful, and easily transportable. I wanted a power source to take with me for hiking, camping, fishing, or just for use at those remote mountain jobsites I tended to frequent. I had aspirations of attaching a PV panel to a suitable solar generator for power during nighttime but when faced with the significant costs for a solar generator proper, I realigned my wants with my budget realities. As I evaluated my specific use cases, I realized that my immediate needs were very different from my long term desires. I had an immediate need for a DC power source capable of charging my iPhone and iPad directly in those remote mountain environments. Invariably, those are the places I find myself most often summoned by those clients that require a little extra care. These are the remote of the remote locations where all modern infrastructure is absent. Having AC or suitable DC power conveniently available for use is nothing more than a pipe dream. With my own dreams reeled in by budget reality, I did my calculations and reviewed features for several products that could likely meet my needs. On paper, the Marbero solution looked like the most bang for the buck spent and I ordered it. Initially I had my reservations with the pseudo plasticized cloth material that comprised the panel assembly. My fears were misguided and upon direct inspection, I found myself quite impressed by the material science that went into the panel design and construction. This stuff is tough! Strength, flexibility, integrated circuitry, lightweight, and portable, too. I have not been disappointed yet. I can stick the unify it in my backpack or even attach it to my backpack, leveraging the sun’s power while I’m on foot from place to place. Unlike some other solutions, this unit comes with a comprehensive assortment of plugs that provide me the ability to directly support a number of different devices as well as charge that future solar generator. Most impressive to me is the panels integrated smarts. It won’t overcharge your devices by design because it knows better. It even has three different output options, making it ideal for a variety of use cases - some of which I haven’t considered! I use it to charge my iPhone, my iPad, and have even attached it to a small inverter for use with a tiny notebook computer. In each case, it performed as advertised. With a 23% conversion efficiency, I can’t wait to see what the folks over at Marbero come up with next. Perovskites? Bi-facial construction? Higher conversion efficiency? It’s all possible. Perhaps I’ll start saving now for that Solar generator or just get another one of these panels to go with the first. I should have known that they can be used together as easily as they can be used solo. I’m SOLD on this product. You can be, too.

I’ve been using the Marbero 30W portable solar panel to power a small pump for a backyard water feature, and it does a good job as long as it has direct sunlight. The panel is lightweight and easy to move around, which is helpful since I adjust its position throughout the day to get the best exposure. It folds up neatly and doesn’t take up much space when stored. The construction feels solid, with reinforced edges and a durable fabric backing. The panel claims a conversion efficiency of over 23%, and while I can’t measure that exactly, it puts out enough power to keep my small pump running reliably in full sun. On partly cloudy days, the pump still runs but at a lower flow. When the clouds are thick, the output drops significantly. It has both USB and DC outputs, which I’ve also used to charge a power bank and a Bluetooth speaker without any problems. It’s rated IP65 waterproof, meaning it can handle splashes and light rain. I haven’t tested it in heavy rain, but it’s been fine with mist from the water feature and occasional morning dew. I’d still be cautious about leaving it exposed to a downpour for long periods. The folding design and included kickstands make it easy to set up and angle toward the sun. The kickstands help with positioning, but they aren’t the sturdiest and can tip over in strong wind. One of the limitations is that it doesn’t have a built-in battery, so it only provides power when the sun is out. If there’s a need for power in the evening or during heavy cloud cover, an external battery pack is necessary. It performs well when there’s good sunlight, but it’s not as useful in overcast conditions. It’s a good fit for my needs since I mainly use it to run the water feature during daylight hours, but for other applications, it would be worth considering how consistent sun exposure will be.
