I've spent a good decade crocheting, and learned how to wind center-pull balls by hand early. didn't feel like one of these was needed, but decided to try just to see. SO much faster with this little device! and anyone who uses center pull knows that after a while they get hollow and collapse, so you have to rewind to keep the last from tangling. this lets me do those rewinds faster. you can attach it to a table, but I often just brace it between my knees. still have to keep an eye to make sure there's no tangling and once it's large to make sure it doesn't spill over on the bottom, but well worth the trouble. the usual cakes it produces are very loosely spun so it's easy to pull, but if you're doing a lot of yarn you'll want to put a little tension-- easily done by grasping it at a point before it gets to the metal arm and just adjusting your pressure to your liking.

This ball winder seems great so far. It is a little smaller than my other winders, but I like how it winds the yarn nicely and not too tight. Some winders will wind the yarn with a stiff tension and the yarn is stretched too tightly. This one does not do that. The machine itself seems very sturdy and fits nicely on my table. It will adjust to different table depths. It comes with several small balls of interesting yarn inside that I'm not sure how I'll use yet, but I will find a good project I'm sure! It also comes with place markers, a yarn needle and two crochet hooks. Overall, I like the winder and if I ever need to replace it for some reason, I would definitely purchase this one again. It may not be adequate for winding large amounts of yarn into one ball, but for smaller amounts, it works great.

My wife has had several winders like this over the years, and this one is pretty good -- not the best but far from being the worst. It's great at winding loose yarn into tight balls, and saves a lot of time and effort compared to doing that by hand. This model performs well but does feel just a little flimsy, and it may not hold up to years of use. However at this price it's worth taking a chance on longevity, and it's certainly worth buying if you deal with a lot of loose yarn.

The media could not be loaded. Highly recommend this yarn winder. I have wanted one for years, but never wanted to spend the money on it. I have always just used my hand or a nostepinne, but that method was always so slow and was hard to do once the ball got too big. I found this winder on Vine and received it for free for an honest review. It was a great way to try these out! I have no regrets. It wound extremely quickly and smoothly. It’s also super relaxing. I would love to have another in a larger size, but this size is great for my small or left over skeins. The two skeins in my pictures are from One Pound balls. The white had never been used so that’s how many skeins I got out of one pound. I initially didn’t want to cut the yarn but once I did and saw how nicely it all stacks, I really didn’t mind so much. Don’t sleep on the yarn winder. You’ll be able to quickly organize your stash! It’s worth it!

I ordered this in the hopes that I would finally get to stop hand-rolling balls of yarn from the hanks and skeins that I order from Amazon and other online stores. I am glad I did because this will definitely do the job on most yarns. It mounts well on my craft table and is hand-cranked to create the yarn cake. The ball winder is extremely easy to operate and if you have ever watched someone use one of these at a yarn store, you will have absolutely no problem setting it up and using it. I really like it and I only have one slight objection - it is not designed to handle very textured or very think yarns well but I have to admit, I don't know that anything you could get at this price-point is going to handle a really textured or thicker yarn that well. For the 95% of yarn that I knit with, it works perfectly! I wouldn't get this for professional use in a yarn store, it simply isn't designed for that kind of hard daily use, it is more a piece for home use and is handy to wind a cake of yarn whenever you are ready to start another project. Definitely worth the investment by a hobby knitter or crocheter and definitely VERY helpful in making that yarn stash easier to knit or crochet!
