  • Easily split an 8" dry log.
Color: Dark Black
Exactly as described/pictured. Longer feet than others give good stability when bolted down. First log was 8" diameter oak, perfect for a split size just larger than kindling. Could do dry 10" without problem knots. Short 5-6# hammer, so follow through does not strike blade.

  • Sharp
Color: Dark Black
Easy to use. Has sharp edge for splitting wood, I do use a sledgehammer to split.

  • Wood splitter
Color: Dark Black
This wood splitter is the best wood splitter compared to the small round wood splitter that only can split small wood logs.

  • Does the job splitting wood - and much safer than trying to hold the wood while you split it.
Color: Black
So much safer to split wood this way! I have been splitting wood for decades, and having a good tool to assist in splitting is essential. This easily holds the piece of wood and splits it into several pieces. I just had this sitting on ground for testing, and it worked great. It did 'move' around a little bit, but it worked well. it does have some holes in the 'base' where you can attach this to something to keep in more firm. I would suggest getting a nice wide slab of wood and mounting this splitter to that piece of wood to keep the splitter from moving. I want to keep mine a little more 'mobile' so I can use it when I go camping. I have a small wood burning stove for my tent - and this is going to work great for prepping wood for that stove. Normally I try to 'hold' the piece of wood while I attempt to split it with a hatchet which is not the safest way to split wood. Instead of a 'hatchet' getting stuck part way into the wood, you can use a sledgehammer and this tool and it creates lot of kindling quickly. Its seems to be really durable, but only time will tell. ... show more

  • For BIG logs
Color: Dark Black
There are lots of log splitters like this one out there, but there are a few things that set this one apart from the rest. First, many of the other log splitters have a round ring collar that supports the log. Those sometimes get in the way of your swing, especially for shorter logs. This splitter just has a single arm to hold your log upright - and does not get in the way at all. Second, this one can handle wider diameter logs without any issue. A big plus for me since I hate pre-splitting logs with a maul just to get them small enough to fit in the log splitter. Not at all an issue with this unit. One drawback to having the open design is that the blade is exposed. With many of the other enclosed designs the blade is more or less protected by the collar. Just something to pay attention to if you are working around kids or plan to leave this unattended somewhere. All in all this thing works great and makes short work of splitting firewood. I do recommend using a heavier sledge-style hammer or even a heavier hatchet with this. A smaller hammer just won’t provide the force needed to split logs. ... show more

  • Good wood splitter
Color: Dark Black
This thing is large. The pictures don't do it justice, but its bigger than most of the splitters I have seen. The top is open ended so you can put larger logs and odd shapes. It has 4 holes in the base to allow you to screw it into a stump or nice log base. I would recommend you do that so you don't have to bend over and makes for easier splitting. Find or build a big base and screw it down. ... show more

  • Big and strong enough to handle larger logs
Color: Dark Black
The welds appear strong and the whole unit has good weight to it. The curved open top lets me put larger and odd shaped logs on. Larger logs do require a good bit more force to split so be sure to mount this Huskfirm XXL unit to a solid base that won't absorb energy from striking the log so everything goes into making the split. I use the flat end of a maul to get the high force needed. Since I can fit large pieces to split I won't have to make as many chainsaw cuts to break down big logs and stumps to fit the splitter. The edge is somewhat sharp so be sure to cover it with the included plastic guard when not in use. ... show more

  • Safer way to split wood
Color: Black
I'm impressed how well it worked! Using a sledge hammer instead of an axe is a safer way to split wood. This works great and the design holds the log in place while you take a swing at it. The splitting surface is not super sharp but can easily put a better edge on it with a grinder or cutoff wheel. I'll going to mount it on top of a log to bring the height up another foot or so. ... show more
