This book met my expectations and then some. The introductory sections might seem thin at first but eventually you realize that yhey cover a more ground than you think. The real meat of yhe text is the etudes themselves. You'll find that there is hardly a situation covered that you won't find in actual standards when you start arranging your own. So, study 'em, memorize them, play them as fluidly and effortlessly as you can, and then start going through your real books and arranging your own. It's all there. A good companion to this book is Don Stiernbergs Soundslice course on chord melody. I go back and forth between the two. Also, don't forget Aaron's Youtube Channel--he performs all seven of these, plus dozens more classic standards. Aaron is "Joe Pass" with a mandolin! I have that playlist cued up on my Apple TV all the time! ... show more

Finally, a reason to learn the chords I should have been learning all along! It makes the mandolin sound like the true melody instrument it is. Some of the chords start out almost impossible to play, but with time the fingers find their place and the tone rings out. This book will be a focus of my practice work for quite some time.     • Excellent introduction to a new way to play Mandolin
I've been having a lot of fun working through the Mandolin Chord Melody System. Videos of Aaron playing the Etudes from the book are available to watch on YouTube. Mind you he doesn't always play it exactly as written. The book is still a bit over my head. But it gives me something to aim for. New ways to think about playing the mandolin is a great way to spend a little down time. Well written, I think there are years' worth of information to mine from this short volume. ... show more

    • I have no issue with the content of the book ...
I have no issue with the content of the book! But I do have an issue with the fact that I cannot read it on the Kindle app for PC. It won't let me zoom in on the pages. The page won't fill the screen and looks zoomed all the way out to view the entire page, leaving the words and other content to small to make out. I've tried changing settings, and I cannot zoom in. ... show more

    • Good beginning in the difficult area of jazz chord melody
The book is OK, but Weinstein is such a genius on Jazz mandolin playing, the book will require a deeper study for me to get it all. All the solos here are in standard tuning, but I understand Weinstein uses custom tunings for a lot of his playing.
