We purchased these knowing we were going to modify them from their original purpose. It was worth the risk. Instead of ground landscape lights, we purchased 2 lights to hang from either side of our arbor/entrance to boathouse deck. Our other outdoor lights are silver, so we took these apart, lightly sanded them, and spray painted them to match. We were able to modify the support staff (cut off) to insert into our arbor and ran wiring up to them inside the wood frame. The lights are fairly heavy so we made sure they were fully supported with the staff tightly inserted into the wood. Hopefully, they will last a long time, but we did run enough wire that can be pulled out and updated with a replacement fixture in the future. The lighting is beautiful at night with our spotlit trees (low voltage lights installed on the same unit). These lights were easy to install and we are happy with how they turned out.     • Disappointed in Malibu
I have purchased many Malibu products over the years and this is the first time I've been disappointed. I bought two of these at first, because they have a neat appearance. In fact, the lights themselves are metal and appear nicely made. They are a little on the heavy side, so I was surprised to see the plastic post that accompanied them. They looked nice when I first put them in our garden and I thought they'd be okay. But recently, one of the lights stopped working. I figured the bulb had burned out, so I ordered a package of replacements. At the same time, I made the mistake of ordering an additional light fixtuure. Now comes the adventure. You must unscrew 3 tiny screws from the underside of the lamp. I'm talking "tiny" friends, a man's nightmare. Cumbersome is the best description and if you don't lose one of the screws, you are lucky. When I finally got it open, I discovered the lamp had leaked and the connections were rusted. When I tried to extract the bulb, one of the stems broke off in the lamps receptacle, all the way down inside the connector. Now, $45 is not a lot of money, but it ain't chump change either. MALIBU should be ashamed and it's my recommendation that Amazon no longer carry this product. I think I've covered every suggested topic. Don't buy this. You can modify this quite easy. So, if you’re simply just looking for a nice lantern to hang in any area, and you want to extend this on a bigger pole, the cabling on this slides out of the small pole it comes with. Simply splice into the wiring and all is good. Please see my pictures. It adds a nice ambiance to my fire pit and back porch area! Very nice lighting! ... show more

    • Horrible product! two lights burned out within a week. Don't buy!!!!!
I only rated these one star because there was no negative star choice! Vendor is unresponsive to finding a solution. These lights look great for about a week, however when the light burns out the bulbs cannot be replaced. You simply have to throw the whole thing in the landfill. Two of these units burned out within a week of installation. I bought 10 of them total nearly $500.00 In a country that allegedly is so conscious of pollution and waste, ("we don't send manuals with products to save paper") any product that requires the customer to throw away a $50.00 light because the LED burns out should be banned from the market place. I specifically wanted Malibu because the last set I had lasted for nearly 20 year These didn't last 20 days before two of them failed due to condensation inside the glass. Vendors answer was " I should take all of them out and send back for evaluation." Malibu products ain't what they used to be, but they are no longer made by Malibu, the company is Venus manufacturing, and I'm guessing that they didn't purchase a quality control department as part of the buyout. Recently I retired and moved to a new house. I had these landscaping lights at my other house and since I was very satisfied with these lights, I purchased them for the new house. The one thing I would advise, with I did, is replace the bulbs with LED bulbs. The lighting is much brighter and even though it is a low voltage system, you will save on electric. ... show more
