The dual action control offers “Random orbit with forced rotation” or “random orbit with free Rotation”, and the variable speed control dial has five speed settings so users are able to set the speed and action to the application. The cordless design eliminates the hassle of cord management and accidental marring of delicate surfaces. Additional performance features include an electronic controller that automatically applies additional power to maintain constant speed, even under load, and also provides soft start for smoother start-ups and longer gear life. It is ideal for commercial-duty polishing applications. The BL™ Brushless motor eliminates carbon brushes, enabling the motor to run cooler and more efficiently for longer life. It’s part of Makita’s expanding 18V Lithium-Ion system, the world’s largest cordless tool system powered by 18V Lithium-Ion slide-style batteries. Makita 18V Lithium-Ion batteries have the fastest charge times in their categories, so they spend more time working and less time sitting on the charger. In the past I would use a rotary buffer to polish my black truck and when I'd get done it would look excellent then a few months later I would have holograms all over the place. I know a lot of it has to do with technique and materials, but this little machine made it easy and perfect. I don't throw compound all over the place anymore, I can control the pad now so I can get close to trim and not get it on it. The smaller pad can get in a lot of spots and is super fast. I love having the forced rotary d/a option as the first heavy cut I used it with a lot of RPM, then I would turn it off and work the pads, compound, and RPM down. Holograms, swirl marks are all gone now. Batteries only last 30 minutes but SUPER nice not dragging a cord around. Right when one battery dies the next one is charged so it works out. Nothing was getting hot so it shouldn't hurt the batteries too much. ... show more

I really hated that this was so expensive, but being a LXT tool junkie, I decided to buy as my corded polisher quit and the cord really sucks when you are out on boats or larger items working. There weren't many reviews on this particular tool up so pretty much a leap of faith for the brand. I'm impressed so far! This definitely has more features than I could have ever wanted in a polisher, it's well designed as I would have expected, and can be used for auto's boats, marble counter tops, just about anything you can polish. Fairly light for the power it has and well balanced, speed and motion adjustability is the best I have seen. I would buy it again...the price is what it is because there are a LOT of features and quality in this tool that knock offs will never have. ... show more

I prefer to buy the best tools for whatever the job calls for, I am not tied to any particular brand. This Makita dual action polisher performs extremely well. I researched polishers for months prior to making this purchase, considering Flex, Rupes, Lake Country, and many others that have great reputations. I chose this polisher for the functionality of random orbit and forced rotation. After spending 40+ hours on my vehicles to prepare for ceramic coat, I was very satisfied with the performance, noise level, battery life, and maneuverability of the Makita. I used a series of 6” Lake Country Hybrid Pads, the results speak for itself. I went back and forth about buying this unit or the corded one. The rest of my tools are 18V so I opted to fork over the cash and get this one. I’m doing a boat refit so the remote nature of that work means I really appreciate the cordless option. The variable speeds are easy to use and all buttons, of course, are easily activated while wearing big bulky gloves. Been using this to polish a bathtub we just refinished. The Makita 18v cordless polisher/buffer is made for car detailing professionals, however it is also great for weekend warriors like myself. The initial cost is a little salty however the quality, build, and features of this buffer make it worth every penny spent.
