Description

Makita delivers grinding performance with the 18V LXT® Brushless 4-1/2” / 5” Paddle Switch X-LOCK Angle Grinder with AFT®, tool only (XAG26Z). The unique feature with this angle grinder is the X-LOCK Technology, which is a quick- change system for tool-free wheel changes. A click-mount and pull release lever make changing wheels easy. The XAG26Z is ideal for grinding and cutting a wide range of materials including tile, concrete, pipe, conduit, and more. It's powered by a Makita-built brushless motor for longer run time, increased power and speed, and longer tool life. The BL™ Brushless Motor eliminates carbon brushes, enabling the motor to run cooler and more efficiently for longer life. Active Feedback-sensing Technology (AFT®) turns the motor off if rotation speed suddenly slows or the wheel is forced to a stop. The XAG26Z also includes a large no lock-on flush-mount paddle switch with two-stage lock-off. In the event that a battery is installed while pulling the paddle switch into the ON position, the anti-restart function prevents the grinder from starting. It’s part of Makita’s expanding 18V LXT System, the world’s largest cordless tool system powered by 18V lithium-ion slide-style batteries. Makita® 18V LXT Lithium-Ion Batteries have the fastest charge times in their categories, so they spend more time working and less time sitting on the charger. For improved tool performance and extended battery life, Makita created Star Protection Computer Controls™. Star Protection is communication technology that allows the Star Protection-equipped tool and battery to exchange data in real time and monitor conditions during use to protect against overloading, over-discharging and overheating. For increased versatility, the tool can also be powered by Makita 18V LXT Lithium-Ion Batteries with the star symbol on the battery indicating Star Protection inside.

  • Great tool with 18v. Many others are 12V.
The 18v system makes it very fast and powerful. It would be nice to have a skinny neck like the HF brand but my Makita experience says it is made this way so it does not break so easily. I use this to disassemble engines and get into areas nearly impossible to get other tools into. The 1/4 inch "arbor" comes in very handy with small hardware. You can buy a cheaper one at a cheaper price, but you can't buy a better one at any price. ... show more

  • Superbly useful tool, now my first-reach grinder
Theres not much in an angle grinder. It’s spins things fast and they grind, polish, or cut things. So it really comes down to how well it does those things and how safely it does those things. The makita is safer because 1) the easy guard installation and adjustment means you’re more likely to use it, 2) the x lock wheels cannot be installed off center, and 3) the brake stops the disc almost instantly. It’s well-balanced and one-hand usable, which is important to me. I need to be able to grind with one hand and secure the work with the other sometimes. This tool allows that with good control. Power wise, it’s not is powerful as a 9a or higher corded grinder, but it does have enough power to do anything I need done at reasonable speed. To stall the wheel it took about all the force I could muster. Since I cannot apply that much load, the grinder has plenty of torque for my uses. You notice the slower RPM when cutting, so it’s not the fastest cutting tool around. But it will cut and do it without stalling or complaining. 9/10 would buy again. ... show more

  • Great product
First time using the x lock feature. Light weight, and convenient, quick switching discs. Love it. Hopefully it lasts

  • Don’t wait, go cordless
The cordless feature is of course the best part of this grinder. I don’t know why I waited so long, it’s just so much more convenient. Plenty of power And the battery lasts long enough for every job I’ve had for it. I’m Addition, compared to my corded version, This has several upgrades. The toolless disc changes Are so quick and convenient, I just love that feature. The guards can also be exchanged and adjusted without any tools, a very nice feature as well. The brake is such a time saver and so much safer. Even the switch is improved. ... show more

  • Heavy duty grinder!
After having two Milwaukee Circular Saws fail on me I have left that brand for good, always have had much better reliability from Makita tools for many years. I recently decided to build some custom woodworking that needs some metalworking on the side. I decided to get a welder and a grinder. After much wait I saw that Makita is making this brushless grinder, Wow this tool is very nice, not light and fluffy though! Heavy duty tool for working on all your projects, I can see this grinder lasting a very long time! ... show more

  • Uses special attachment system and only wheels that have the corresponding attachment socket
The grinder is powerful and it's a well built kicka$$ grinder. I didn't realize it used the special attachment system when I bought it. It's larger than I had expected but I'm used to using the subcompact line of 18v Makita tools and they're the same size as the 12v line, so I don't know what I was thinking. I really like the paddle and the no lock-on on it. It's has a redundant safety so you can't accidentally hurt yourself changing wheels or picking it up etc. And even though the mounting system has to have the correct wheels with the x-mount, it's a really strong and grinder. I used it to cut through a couple of sections of 2" schedule 160 pressure pipe from the oil field, and it murdered the pipe no problem only stopping once to check square, and I didn't use the cutoff wheels, I used the grinding wheel they sent with it in the box so the surface area in contact with the pipe was like 5/16" thick wheel= way too much to be doing what I did. But I wanted to know if it could do it and I was impressed with everything with one exception. It did bring a freshly charged 5mah battery down to 2 bars on the battery meter. It's a power hog for sure but if it is used as intended, you can get a lot of use out of what ever batteries you use. Bigger the better though if you intend to use it continuously. My 2.0mah only get about 3-5 cuts with a 1/16 cutoff the 5.0 battery is significantly more. It doesn't drip to the 3rd bar of the four bars until after the 2.0 is already back on the charger. Hope that helps someone. That's why the rating I gave. Trying to be honest. ... show more

  • Great tool, didn't appreciate the downside of X-lock
The LXT is a great platform. I didn't realize, when going to buy some other grinding wheels, that X Lock locks you into buying Makita grinding wheels which are more expensive and typically offer less selection. Other than that awesome tool.
