Compressors are workhorse tools on the job site and in the work shop. Makita Air Compressors are favorites for their faster recovery time, lower noise, longer tool life, and consistent performance. The Makita ½ HP 1 Gallon Compact, Oil-Free, Electric Air Compressor (MAC100Q) features a Quiet Series Design, combining strong performance with lower noise. At only 58 dBA, it’s ideal for indoor use during case and base installation, trim and finish carpentry, cabinet or furniture making, and more. • Edited Low Review!
Happy to receive this. Plugged it in, ran nicely and charged up to about 20-30 lbs., then shut off. Next day it ran for 15 minutes, never got above 20-30 lbs. Shut down, got water with small amount of dish soap and checked every connection for leaks. Found none. Turned off and listened for air leaks, seemed to be coming from behind the red lever switch box. Restarted and ran for 25 minutes while rechecking for leaks before observing leak so fast it blew away soapy water before bubbles could form. Leak coming from the small, silver device at the rear of the black plastic switch box. Shut down to look further. Motor refuses to start at all. Horrible factory inspection processes. Made in China, but missing the care taken for other products such as iPhones, which seem to be "perfect." Am returning, once, but if this happens again not going to try further. EDIT: Have received replacement and it runs fine, but honestly have to say that the tiny valve in the picture choked up on the first start, but did fine on a restart. Guessing that the valve is low quality or low QC. For me, at my age and multiple worn body parts, this little unit is fine, but don't expect big output from this small unit and check the specs before buying. Very quiet and a wonderful replacement for the $49 unit I bought years ago. Makita quality shows, and I anticipate years of good use from this. ... show more

  • Why did I wait this long?!
To the point: Pros: QUIET! (58db), easy to move, has a place for cord wrap/storage, simple easy to read displays, compact, no oil, great for light duty work, solid. Cons: None! (and I'm a very picky critical person of stuff in this price range) This review is for the Makita MAC100Q Quiet Series, 1/2 HP, 1 Gallon Compact, Oil-Free, Electric Air Compressor. I had an old cheap clunky pancake designed air compressor that ran almost 90db! You know the ones that you can buy cheap at most big box stores. Very loud, heavy, eventually leaked air, had to replace the oil, knobs eventually froze up and generally just cheaply built. I put up with that unit for a long time simply because I only used it to put air in car tires in my garage, but finally more air was leaking than the unit could keep the tank filled. I finally decided to spend more money on this Makita with less capacity but with great reviews. This unit is so quiet, small, easy to move, well built, everything where it is needed and easy to reach. Takes up so much less space. Where I previously had to reel out 50' of air hose to do what I needed, I now just move the compressor to the center of everything and takes mere minutes to do what used to be a dreaded task. What it is not: It is not a commercial use item. This would not drive air tools except maybe the very smallest like a brad nailer, air brush tools, grinder, small sander, etc. It would not do something like a impact wrench as capacity and volume is small. I would not plan to do long projects with this version as it is meant to be light duty and only run short amounts of time. But excellent for putting air in tires, light blowing out the garage/workbench, running smaller air items, hobbies. I highly recommend! ... show more

  • Quiet, Quality, Light Weight, and Makita Excellence
This compressor is perfect for the portability and use for homeowners. The price with Makita portion makes it a good monetary choice. The compressor operates flawlessly. I replaced my 23 year old compressor with this Makita. Wow, what a difference. Everything works great. The manual is complete and easy to understand. Inflates vehicle tires super fast. Highly recommend this compressor for the purposes it was made for. Well worth the price. ... show more

  • Nicely constructed, heavy-duty metal construction and VERY quiet for an air compressor.
I've only had this MAC100Q air compressor for about a week but it has been a pleasure to use so far. It has a nice roll-cage to protect the operating pars and all the knobs, gauges and on/off switch seen well-made and work great. It is remarkably quiet. When they say 58dB, they're not kidding. I previously tried an air compressor that was rated at around 93dB and it was unbearable (ear protector warning needed). This MAX100Q can be used inside a garage without a noise problem at all -- great design. It's only 1/2 HP (helps it to be quiet) with a 1-gal tank, so it's not intended for a 5-gun nail crew. With just a 1-gal tank, it may cycle more frequently, but it's quiet when it does so it's not a problem. The smaller motor and tank make it relatively light and easy to move around. For the average homeowner (like myself) it can handle all the jobs for which you would normally use an air compressor. I have absolutely no complaints and would highly recommend this Makita air compressor to any other homeowner. ... show more

  • The noise level rating is for real!
The compressor is very quiet, I was skeptical until I actually heard it. I am astonished, as I've never heard a compressor this quiet. I wouldn't have believed this was possible! The drain valve is the best I've seen on any compressor I've owned. With only a one gallon tank, it does turn on quite a bit while inflating tires and such. I haven't had the opportunity to use any air tools with it, but it isn't really designed to operate anything robust. In my judgment, it can probably operate a brad nailer or similar tool just fine. I definitely wouldn't use it with a framing nailer. It will probably work for a roofing nailer, but I wouldn't purchase it for that express purpose. Another nice feature is the air hose connector on the unit. You can just insert the hose into the connector without any manipulation. I haven't had a new compressor in a while, so this may be common now. It is light for a well built compressor, but probably heavier than you would think. Still, it is compact and very portable. It is built like a tank, so no worries there. ... show more

  • Small air compressor
Was looking for a small indoor air compressor for running nail gun. This one did the trick. Its a good quality tightly packed machine. Its adjustable valves allow u to turn up or down air pressure. Filling speed is on the slower side but works ok for my purpose. And most importantly is its quiet, and easy to carry around. Overall freat machine for the money. Good quality long lasting compressor ... show more

  • It doesn't put out enough air to be useful and it just died after only 5 months
Editing my original review... It died after running with a higher pitched sound. I ordered it in May of 2021 and it just died on November 23rd. Five months. It is a very well built, and quiet compressor. Very portable. Great if you need to take it somewhere to help air a tire or something that needs that portability. However, that is in no way an offset to the horrible air supply that it fails to put out. It worked great up until now. But... you are going to run out of patience very fast. Totally useless when using an air gun for blowing sawdust off of a miter saw. You get about 15 seconds of useful air then you have to stop and wait about 50 seconds for the compressor to catch up. Pass on this one and get a much bigger one. The Makita/Metabo brand is one of my favorites. This is the first one I have a complaint about. However, it is fairly clear in the specs that this does not put out much air. So that complaint is on me. Dying after only five months with very light usage... This is on them. Update 12/13/2021 It looks like it is the pressure switch assembly. Part ordered $13+S&H. Will update soon. ... show more
