Description

The Makita 10” Dual Slide Compound Miter Saw (model LS1018) delivers large cutting capacity and accuracy right out of the box. With the LS1018, you'll get all the cutting performance you need in a slide compound saw, but with less weight (only 43.7 lbs.) for increased portability. Jobs like cutting baseboards and crown molding are a snap, but it also has the capacity to cut 4x4 dimensional lumber in one pass. It's ideal for fine woodworking, carpentry, general construction, and more. The LS1018 is powered by a 13.0 AMP direct drive motor with soft start, a key point of difference. This means smoother start-ups and consistent, constant power with no belts to slip or replace. The electric brake provides added convenience. The LS1018 will tackle the most demanding jobs while keeping production high.

  • Makita LS1018
Style: Miter saw
Excellent saw. Mine was very accurate right out of the box, but it's a good idea to check your angles if you're gonna be doing finish work. I've been using this mostly for furniture and planters. I used it for some deck work, and a bit of finish work as well, and it performed perfectly. Plenty of power. Very smooth slide. The slow start up took some getting used to, but that's just because I'm used to working with a very old saw. Electric brake works very well, and the handle give you a nice grip. The guides on the side are ok, but I still prefer the blocks of wood that I've been using for years. The clamp that is included also works very well for keeping your fingers away from the blade on tricky cuts. The blade that they include is decent, but I'd get something nicer if you're doing anything other than rough cuts. All in all I'm extremely satisfied, Makita has yet to disappoint me. ... show more

  • Saw time.
Style: Miter saw
I just boght this saw and set it up this weekend. I read a lot before purchasing this and have several comments based on what I read from the other saw reviews. Overall I wouls say this is a great saw, noting that I only used it for one weekend. I did have to make some adjustments to get it to cut the way I wanted it to, but the adjustments went quickly and smoothly with no noticeable problems. I carefully inspected the say and found no noticeable problems out of the box. The saw cuts great and I love the soft start motor. I have an old makita that I am giving to my son. Angle seem easy to adjust except for the turntable part is a little hard to move but it may be that it just needs to be broken in with time. Just be aware that the sawdust collection is not really that effective. I think maybe 50 percent or less actually goes into the bag. Very happy with this saw at this point, definately worth 100 dollars less than the LS1016L which I was going to buy. ... show more

  • Great saw, accurate and portable.
Style: Miter saw
I'm really happy with this saw so far. I bought it to replace my Hitachi C10 FSH. They're pretty similar saws actually, this seems quieter, lighter and the miter scale is definitely easier to read. It's very bare bones, but does bevel both ways. I also own a festool kapex and a non sliding Double bevel dewalt. I wanted an accurate model that is lightweight like the 1018, around 43lbs. This is a win because this thing was bought to be moved in and out of the truck, and would go up and down the stairs of customers homes. I love Makita tools but I admit that I was skeptical of Makita miter saws because the 1016 gets such bad reviews, but I'm very happy with the accuracy, the feel, the soft start motor, the dust bag actually cillects a lot of the dust and it even came with a reasonable blade. The outfeed supports aren't necessary for me yet. and I probably wont use them because they get in the way when trying to cram it in the ruck with everything else I keep on board. Now for the bad. Why didn't they make the dust shroud compatible with a Festool vacuum? Their track saw is. The knob that locks the slider in place is gutless. It pretty much won't hold it in place. It should have a laser option. The saw has serious cross cut capacity, so the rails stick back behind the saw a lot, so you can't really place it very close to a wall, and with all the saws out there these days, this might be a consideration for you. But it wasn't for me. Again , very similar to the 10" Hitachi, which has a huge following. I'll also add that a couple guys on my crew really like this Makita LS1018 too. ... show more

  • Good saw for the money!
Style: Miter saw
Have used the saw for several days now and it continues to work very well. One issue I foresee is in the small button on the handle which must be pressed before the saw can be turned on. This button seems rather cheaply made and probably will not last with a lot of use. The blade provided with the saw has 40 teeth and will make most of the cuts for an average user, but for miter cuts on trim, a better blade should be purchased. I have not had any issues with the glide of slide part of the saw. It was slightly tight in the beginning of use, but has since worked itself out and does the job very well. Would recommended this saw for the average user and DIYer. If I were a contractor or was planning to use this saw every day, I would look elsewhere at a more durable product. ... show more

  • easy to use, accurate, and well made
Style: Miter saw
I have really enjoyed using this saw over the past few months. I finally made the investment when I decided to build a large garden shed, after looking at MANY saws in the big box stores, I went for this one because it felt well made, solid and all of the adjustment were easy to get to. This tool made fast and accurate work of the framing and shelving. Love that I can cut larger pieces of wood, already looking forward to my next project! ... show more

  • DO NOT BUY THIS
Style: Miter saw
It would've been great, but out the box that blade wobbles a 16th in either direction, the actual mount with the blade deflects with light hand pressure so you can get off on a cut very easily, the slide lock is chinsey and loosens with vibration very quickly, the angle detent gauge is a sticker, and it's not even well adhesed. It's very pretty and light but it doesn't do the main thing we want it to do. Cut decently accurate cuts. Very surprised by the lack of quality in this 350 dollar tool. Go buy the 12inch sliding mitre saw from DeWalt instead. It's about the same price and bigger, and likely better. Don't quote me on the better part though. I'll find out after I return this. ... show more
