Description

The Makita 10” Dual Slide Compound Miter Saw (model LS1018) delivers large cutting capacity and accuracy right out of the box. With the LS1018, you'll get all the cutting performance you need in a slide compound saw, but with less weight (only 43.7 lbs.) for increased portability. Jobs like cutting baseboards and crown molding are a snap, but it also has the capacity to cut 4x4 dimensional lumber in one pass. It's ideal for fine woodworking, carpentry, general construction, and more. The LS1018 is powered by a 13.0 AMP direct drive motor with soft start, a key point of difference. This means smoother start-ups and consistent, constant power with no belts to slip or replace. The electric brake provides added convenience. The LS1018 will tackle the most demanding jobs while keeping production high.

  • Dust collection is non existent
Style: Miter saw
I replaced my Delta that weight a ton with two Generals and both broke in less than a month. I decided to try the Makita "LS1018" because I have always been happy with all my Makita tools. Well the saw proforms excellent but I noticed that the dust bag was'n filling up I expected a little bypas which is normal with all miter box saws. I got to watching the saw cut and noticed that 99.999% of the dust hitting my wall. I have a cabinet shop so I tried to confine the sawdust but found that to be problematic. I really like the as but the dust collection system S_ _ _s and a vac would't do any good because the does't go to the dust port!!! ... show more

  • How bad could it be
Style: Miter saw
I took a long time to make up my mind about a replacement saw. The one thing it kept coming back on several reviews for this one was the jerky motion of the slide bars but all in all, I took the plunge. How bad could it be? Well, it exists, it's true, it's not a figment of the imagination of anal retentive perfectionists out there but I'm still glad I bought it. It was a very well balanced decision between budget and quality features. In the beginning that jerky slide bugged me a little bit particularly when starting a cut, the need to put some more initial pressure to get the saw blade to slide makes it a bit hard to control the motion once you go over the initial "bump" but either because I got used to it or it's wearing out over time, I barely notice now after a couple months use. The rest of the saw performance more than make up for this shortcoming. It's a beauty. Way back when, circa early 90's I got the first Makita compound miter saw in the market, maybe the only one in the market, it lasted me like ten years running perfect in every count and cost me like $650.- back then, when it died I got by with cheapo miter saws because I quit doing crown molding and didn't have the need for the biggest blade compound saw. Neither do I now, that's why I scaled down to this model when reconsidering my needs at this time. If you want to get a flawless machine as it is, (smooth slide) you'd probably have to shell out top dollars for it. Some folks complained about the poor quality of cut, like it had to be sanded. Not me. The cuts come out flawless and sharp. The power is more than enough. Actually I just had to weld the fence because I made a cut without properly holding the piece, kinda of in a hurry and complacent, and the blade kicked it with so much force that bent and cracked the fence like with a sledge hammer. I clamped it in my welding table, welded it with my oxy-acetylene torch and in 20' I was back with my carpenter hat doing square cuts like nothing happened. ... show more

  • Great saw, accurate and portable.
Style: Miter saw
I'm really happy with this saw so far. I bought it to replace my Hitachi C10 FSH. They're pretty similar saws actually, this seems quieter, lighter and the miter scale is definitely easier to read. It's very bare bones, but does bevel both ways. I also own a festool kapex and a non sliding Double bevel dewalt. I wanted an accurate model that is lightweight like the 1018, around 43lbs. This is a win because this thing was bought to be moved in and out of the truck, and would go up and down the stairs of customers homes. I love Makita tools but I admit that I was skeptical of Makita miter saws because the 1016 gets such bad reviews, but I'm very happy with the accuracy, the feel, the soft start motor, the dust bag actually cillects a lot of the dust and it even came with a reasonable blade. The outfeed supports aren't necessary for me yet. and I probably wont use them because they get in the way when trying to cram it in the ruck with everything else I keep on board. Now for the bad. Why didn't they make the dust shroud compatible with a Festool vacuum? Their track saw is. The knob that locks the slider in place is gutless. It pretty much won't hold it in place. It should have a laser option. The saw has serious cross cut capacity, so the rails stick back behind the saw a lot, so you can't really place it very close to a wall, and with all the saws out there these days, this might be a consideration for you. But it wasn't for me. Again , very similar to the 10" Hitachi, which has a huge following. I'll also add that a couple guys on my crew really like this Makita LS1018 too. ... show more
