Description

Uncover the origins of organized crime in Mafia: The Old Country, a gritty mob story set in the brutal underworld of 1900s Sicily. Fight to survive as Enzo Favara and prove your worth to the Family in this immersive third-person action-adventure set during a dangerous, unforgiving era. Enzo will do anything for a better life. After a brutal childhood of forced labor, he's ready to risk everything to become a man of honor in the Torrisi crime family. His oath to the Mafia, with all the power, temptation, and hardship it entails, is a burning reminder of this simple truth: Family Takes Sacrifice. This thrilling narrative is brought to life by stunning visuals, cinematic storytelling, and the authentic realism that the critically acclaimed Mafia series is known for. Enzo's story unfolds in a time when skill with a stiletto blade was a deadly asset, a lupara sawed-off shotgun was a go-to firearm, murderous vendettas raged for decades, and mafiosi patrolled their protection rackets on foot, horseback, or behind the wheel of turn-of-the-century motorcars.

  • Great Backstory
Platform: PlayStation 5 Edition: Standard
The Old Country on PS5 is a great game. The story is definitely the best part because the pacing is perfect. It doesn't have all that boring filler stuff you see in other open world games, so it stays focused and impactful. It was not too short but also not too long, which made the whole experience feel just right for a gritty story like this. The atmosphere in Sicily looks stunning on the console and the controller haptics make the action feel more intense. If you want a solid mob drama that doesn't take 100 hours to finish, you should definitely play it. ... show more

  • Excellent Delivery and Great Game
Platform: PlayStation 5 Edition: Standard
Primarily, I want to thank the delivery team. I placed my order on 4/22 and the game only took 24 hours to receive, as I got it on 4/23, the next day. Items often take about a week to arrive and I used free shipping, which I do whenever I'm eligible for it. As for the game itself, it starts off kind of slow, but picks up and is fun to play. I haven't gotten too far in the story yet, but it's interesting and kind of addictive. Also, the graphics are impressive and there are plenty of things the game touches on: riding horses, knife fights, gun battles, driving cars, and more. I definitely recommend this game and greatly appreciate how it was shipped. ... show more

  • A great time!
Platform: PlayStation 5 Edition: Standard
A great game but it needs more. I know the Mafia games have never been open world with the exception of Mafia 3. This time around, we’re going back to the beginning. Mafia: The Old Country is mostly linear game with (before the free roam update) very scripted gameplay. This isn’t a bad thing and the story is great, I feel they missed an opportunity to fully use the game world. It’s beautifully designed, great atmosphere but it’s empty with the few exceptions of “Photo Opportunities”, Mystery Foxes, Newspapers, Saints Cards and a couple other things. These aren’t bad and are kinda fun to gather/collect but there’s missed opportunities to add so much to the game. Without giving away plot lines to the game, some elements could’ve been implemented into the game, ie Shake downs, Security detail for some of your “business partners”, Races ; automobiles and horses, running liquor, etc. the map is big and detailed but it’s empty as hell. You can “buy items” from a local fencer but it’s limited to 2-3 times during the whole game (before the free roam update). I haven’t played since the update so I can’t comment on that aspect, they may have added a few things but, I feel like it was a missed opportunity. It’s a great game albeit kinda short, maybe 7-10 hours and that’s including gathering all collectibles in the game. It’s broken down to 15 chapters including the prologue with each chapter about 10-25 minutes, depending on the difficulty setting and player ability. It’s well worth the price of 49.99 even without a big replay value. Enjoy it and.. Welcome to the family. ... show more

  • Patience required for the many stealth missions of this story driven game with some freedom.
Platform: PlayStation 5 Edition: Standard
A good story where Enzo goes from a lowly life of forced coal digging, to a member of the Mafia 1905 Crime Family set in Sicily. The story builds very slowly, where small events and tasks give the player an idea of basic life, including carrying bottles, scooping manure, to bullying businesses around the countryside, and ultimately getting into gun fights against enemies. Horse riding is decent but along with the on foot mechanics, there is no jump button. Land of the map is beautifully created, along with the top of the line cinematic facial animation expressions, with well acted dialog. While the game play and controls work as intended, the game has an excess of trial and error Stealth missions for a large part of the game. You'll be required to sneak around and if they spot you, prepare to wait till the game loads up again half a minute later at times. There are some stealth missions that can turn into battles, so not everything is forced cover tactics. The gun play is effective like past Mafia games, with a really good cover system. Watch out for the big thugs walking in with shotguns ready to expose and flank your safety, hitting them with a precise headshot or shotgun. Otherwise it takes a few hits to take them down. It takes a good number of hours into the story to finally have some freedom to check out the map freely, so patience is required unless you're able to unlock the very basic explore mode, which allows access to the full map roads country for driving, horse riding, walking or collecting trinkets of some value. There is no day or night cycle as is normal for the series unfortunately. The game looks and plays well, with a slow building story that leads to a dramatic conclusion as Enzo earns respect while keeping his romance with the Don's daughter a secret. The stealth was a big factor of the game, more than prior games, which I was not thrilled about. In general though, this is a worthwhile entry in the Mafia series for those hoping to see how things got started in the early 1900s of Europe. ... show more

  • Great game but ending sucks
Platform: PlayStation 5 Edition: Standard
I like it and got a good amount of playtime out of it. Ending sucks and not a huge amount of space to explore but overall I liked it.
