  • First 50 Classical Tunes for Piano
What I like about this book (for me) is that the sheet music is printed large and more spread out. The notes aren’t crammed into crowded measures. It allows those who aren’t speedy readers opportunity to recognize the upcoming notes. In addition, the music choices were excellent and the transpositions didn’t have many sharps or flats. ... show more

  • Love it!
The pieces in the book are simplified enough so that an elementary student like me can manage to learn after days/weeks of hourly practice. Musicality hasn't been compromised. I think it can be because melodies weren't changed drastically. The parts where the melody is difficult to play have been removed ( more than two third of Debussy's pieces, for example) ... show more

  • Perfect level to get me back into playing!
If you took lessons as a child but never got past level 2-3, and 50 years later decide to get more serious about playing... this is the book for you! Over the many years, I tended to sit down at the piano only around Christmas time with just a handful of known pieces. I've been wanting to play more and have bought a few books that were never quite the right fit. I found the arrangements in THIS book to be simple yet not so simple they don't sound good. Short, but not so short it's just a hint of the real thing. It includes a much simplified version of Clair de lune and Canon in D but they still sound lovely to me and I get great enjoyment playing them. Obviously it's all about matching the book level to your skill level, but this book is perfect for me. I'm able to sight read it for the most part but still need to practice to perfect it. I look forward to playing nearly every day and I'm improving rapidly. Relearning theory as I go. I have no big goal to advance to a concert pianist but am delighted with this book. I've been sitting down to play 30 to 60 minutes every day since I bought it a few weeks ago and already have a favorite 5-6 songs to play as I take on new ones. I also bought the 50 first Beatle songs but don't enjoy it quite as much as the Classics! ... show more

  • Just what I needed
I used to play piano then got away from it for many many years. This book is perfect for someone like me who loves classical pieces but hasn't played for many years. There is a good selection, and varying degrees of difficulty, in the pieces. I am starting with something easy, Minuet in G, but there are plenty to choose from. Also it is nice that the print is BIG, no need to worry about being able to see the notes! This book is well worth the price. ... show more

  • Good collection; would be better spiral-bound
I really like this collection. I am just at the level of the pieces. Some I can play with ease, which gives me confidence, and some require a little more work, which provides a challenge. I understand that these are not the full pieces, which some reviewers object to, but since I am probably the student that the book is directed to I can tell you that this gives a good introduction to the pieces. As I progress, I can begin to learn the more difficult versions, but why should I not be able to enjoy these classics at my own level? My only complaint is that the book doesn't sit well on the music stand. I've had to break the spine so it would, which I hate to do. Spiral bound would be so much better. ... show more

  • A Goal
Sugar difficult for beginners. But a nice selection.

  • Real music
The pieces are not dumbed down like a little kid's piano book. This makes them not all that simple. On the other hand, I can play most of them with practice, and sometimes by ignoring the left hand.
