I've been looking for an espresso maker but couldn't convince myself to take up even more counter space. This item is small, and makes good tasting espresso. Not sure you can actually run it plugged in. Mine stopped half way through a brew since i didn't check the battery level. Tried plugging it in and it didn't work.

I love that you can still use this even if the usb cable charger is connected and charging. Great and good quality product! The current is around 12W 5V 2A when plugged to USB port. It's a state of the art invention! Hope that in the future there will be an upgrade of more than 80ml capacity of water like double 160ml or triple to 240ml. Recommended!

The Maestri House espresso machine is a great small appliance for coffee on the go. Ideal cases for this would be coffee in the office or maybe camping for a few days. The espresso machine can brew either pre ground coffee or Nespresso Classic pods. At home I use other high end coffee grinders and espresso machines, but for portability, I chose to use the Nespresso pods. The machine takes about 3-4 hours to charge completely. There are two methods of brewing, either with using pre heated water or letting the machine heat the water for you. Depending on the option you choose, this will impact the brew time as well as the overall battery. The instructions say that letting the machine heat up your coffee will give you about 2-3 brews before needing to charge. You get a few more if you use hot water. This is a nice option because if you are camping with a fire or in a place with easy access to hot water, you can use this machine several times. I personally wanted to see what it would be like from cold. The bottom of the machine is where you change the pod or ground coffee compartments. There is also a cup that is included that slides no the bottom. This cup is not only for drinking, but also necessary for brewing. Once the cartridge is changed to either pod or ground coffee, you actually stand the whole thing on the cup. There are grooves that alternate short and long and you use the short ones to actually prop up the machine onto the cup to allow space for brewing. You add water in the top, either cold or hot and you push one of the two buttons on the front. The top button will heat the water and the bottom will just brew the current water. When I used the heat setting, it took 5 minutes to heat up. There is a digital screen that shows you the heat progress and once it hit 198 degrees Fahrenheit, it started brewing. The brew process only took about a minute. Overall this is a great option for portable coffee. The one thing it is missing is some kind milk frother because let’s face it, in America, very few people actually drink just espresso coffee without any of the milk or sweeteners. That said, the machine works very well. Aside from its long charging times and limited use on charge, it still give you the ability to brew really nice coffee on the go.

My first challenge was figuring out how to get the espresso machine ready to make a small cup. The plastic capsule holder on the bottom of the machine was firmly stuck in place, and I had to use such strength to get it off that I thought it might break first. If you choose to use a prepared capsule you can only use Nespresso size. There are fewer choices when it comes to Nespresso capsules than the other major brand, but apparently the choices are increasing. The manufacturer of this machine smartly made the pairs of coffee or capsule holders only fit each other, so that wasn’t a problem figuring out. My second problem was that you can’t press a start button, set the machine down in its removable plastic cup, and wait. I did that, making sure it was secure, and most of the espresso wound up on the counter. There is a way to set the machine on the cup rather precariously so that the cup seems able to contain all the coffee, but my future choice will be to hold the machine over a non-plastic receptacle while it completes the short brewing cycle. The espresso itself was quite good, so I made a second since I’d lost most of the first one. The instructions say it will brew three little cups if you have the machine heat the water, but mine would only do two even though I had fully charged it before starting. It would not operate while it was plugged in to charge. By the way, the charging time is not short – the product page says three hours, but I didn’t time it, so you must plan ahead. There is an option to use the second coffee holder pair to hold ground coffee. I really like the convenience of the capsules, however, so am not planning to use that option at this point.
