  • Two years and hundreds of times used hard; still happy
Number of Items: 1
I am totally over ever using wind up cable comealongs with curled and fraying cable. The Maasdam rope puller is light weight and consistent in its operation. It is easy to pull the rope out to max length or to pull back slack until the actual pulling is needed. So far it has never slipped with the stock rope which is showing a little wear, but still holds well. When the rope does need replacing, I will certainly not buy cheap rope but will replace it with at least 50 ft instead of the 20 it came with. I mostly use it for felling trees that are leaning the wrong way and pulling logs through the forest. I have used it in snow and rain without any problems. I do blow dirt and debris out of it with compressed air when needed and lubricate it. So far I am impressed with this puller and its value. ... show more

  • Got me out of a real jam!
Number of Items: 1
Went off the trail on my snowmobile, down an embankment, over some downed trees. I had shorten the handle to fit on the sled, but it still had plenty of pulling power. Pulled the sled up over the logs and got me out of a real jam. It would have been 20+ miles to get more help. But my wife and I got it out! Worked great. Really nice that the rope feeds thru and is not like a wire come-along that the spool fills up. So it is easy to adjust the length you need. ... show more

  • Works as advertised!

I bought this to pull down a tree that had hung up while felling it. The base was 16 inches in diameter. This come along pulled the tree from the base easily and then continued to pull until the tree freed up and came safely to the ground. The rope handled the stress easily and worked without any slippage. I used the ProGrip 220400 6' x 2" Polyester Webbing Tree Holder to connect one end to a tree to give support. It handled my situation with ease and safety. I will definitely use this when cutting down other trees to guide their fall. ... show more

  • Overall Impression
Number of Items: 1
I am glad I purchased it. Findings: 1) The rope provided with the puller indeed frays after just 1 or 2 uses. I purchased a 150' climbing rope and will only use the short rope provided on shop jobs. 2) The hooks are really too small, too tight and not very deep. The closure clasps broke almost immediately and I will replace the hooks on both ends with deeper hooks (no closure clasp). 3) There are two release levers. One for the main sprocket and one for the handle. It is a good design that requires enough room for everything to work smoothly. We have used it to direct both large and medium trees and am glad to have it. Recommend you buy an 8' strap you can sling around the anchor and a (cheap) case to hold your puller and related items. ... show more

  • works like a charm
Number of Items: 1
I used this rope puller with 120' of 1/2" double braided rope (instead of the recommended three strand) to pull a Nissan frontier crewcab pickup @ 100' along and 6' up with one stretch (no pun intended) @ 40 degrees uphill. I was a bit worried that the rope would break, but the puller kept it moving,(an inch or so at a time) Much simpler than a normal come-a-long, I only set it up once and made the entire pull without having to stop, chock the wheels, and reset the come-a-long on the chain for the next 10' (or 20' depending on how one has the come-a-long configured) Another observation is that the rope is centered on puller-wheel so it didn't have any tendancy to "rack" as I have had other cable devices do when they met/exceeded capacity. SLOW AND STEADY WON THIS RACE! ... show more

  • for tree work, this tool is great.
Number of Items: 1
i use a 3300 pound rope on this puller, which is rated for (the puller )1500 pounds. it takes a stranded, not braid rope of any length. the down side is that the thing metal used to allow the ratchet to pull or spin quickly fails, you can buy parts cheap, but i never fixed this one. it may be faster to pull the rope all the way through it by hand anyway rather than fix it. after a year of very abusive use, it will wear out. only down side. otherwise it is worth its weight in gold ... show more

  • Love it
Number of Items: 1
Does Great if you need a longer pull than a standard come-a-long has. Its only limited but the length of rope you use. I did use a rope 1/8" bigger than max size recommended, it DOES NOT have the pulling power of a come-a-long, but i found it has plenty of PULL POWER for my use.
